ATWT: March Discussion Thread

GAWD Kelly, you must need a cigarette after this week. All that Pem time and everything. :D

After yesterday's Scooby episode, anything seemed better. I can live with eppy's like today's, even though I don't dig most of the characters. I thought Henry was friggin' PRICELESS today. And since I can smell Katie's latest "dream" dying...that put a BIG ol' smile on my face. Even the fact someone finally hit Paul with the truth and got him to listen instead of plowing into that room and attempting to drag Meg out by her hair, breaks the repetitive cycle (for a day at least) of that generally horrid story, and makes it seem FRESH.

And it doesn't hurt that by comparison, I felt really let down by the first day of the Four Musketeers reunion on GL. Stupid bastards...ruining the day with way too much of the Aussie brothers.

 ME!!

I have the opposite reaction from the majority of the posters in this thread, I guess. The murder mystery has been the best story for me for awhile now, mainly because of the characters involved in it. I knew it would be Mark Vero the moment there was an "M" even though the characters were all dumb about it, but still, I liked the story to see the characters interacting.

I relate to the Jade/Casey one person liking the other more dynamic. I have also liked the involvement of family, with Tom/Margo mistrusting their son and Holden/Lily laying down the law to Luke. Mentioning Luke having a bit of Damian in him was also a nice setup.

Episodes with Casey, Jade, Luke, Noah, Allison, and Matt in them have breezed by for me because they are so fun and energetic. Everything else has been a chore lately. It's still the same old story with Paul, Meg, Dusty, Johnny, and Craig. Argh! Lucy has quickly started grating on me again too. The only saving relief in that story has been Emily.

Vienna, I am sure she will end up wanting to keep the baby. How predictable can you get, ATWT? How many baby stories can you do?

I really wish Kevin and Luke would be friends again. I'm glad Kevin did the right thing.

I am interested to see why Brian is back next week.

Even though I didn't like all the stories on today (OMG, if I could jettison Craig/Dusty/Lucy, they'd be gone in a nanosecond)....at least it had some nice balance.

It's really sad to see Carly continue to slide down to rock bottom.

I see they're continuing to rewrite Janet's history. Now she blames Brad for knocking her up, and he's taking the blame for not being around...HELLO...she didnt' TELL HIM she was pregnant. Whether or not he was a jerk, she made that decision. At least she's veering into bad momma/snarky bitch territory. I'm so sick of St. Janet I could scream.

LOL...poor Katie...ONE time Brad's denying her sex so he can have an army of "little guys" and she's already feeling "denied". GMAFB.

I wish this Parker story was a little more grounded. It seems kind of ridiculous Jack is taking such a hard line with Parker again, over a minor smoke-filled house incident.

How old is Parker now--15 going on 12?? And how does he manage to keep accessing his trustfund?? I realize that this is JokeDale Il, but GMAFB, he's a minor for goodness sake. I don't want anything really serious to happen to him, but, it's way pass time for him to get a little come-uppance. Looks like Johnny is going to be the one to drop the dime on him.

As far as JackAss and JumpMe are concerned, can TPTB hurry up and break these two up. I can just see them sitting in judgement of Carly when her next crisis takes place. Maybe Craig will be the wedge-- I think he and Janet have chemistry.

I FF'd the Parker/Liberty stuff. And the Brad/Katie stuff.

I really felt for Carly, it was clear she had serious reservations about sending Parker to Eastlake.

I did enjoy Craig calling out Dusty on the fact that had Dusty won custody, he would NEVER have let Craig see him, so Dusty's wanting to 'work things out' was totally bogus.

He's not acceessing his trust fund. I wish TIIC would let him swing back to the basically nice kid he was...all this 'tude is really grating. Even that 'ho LibbyLou said some nice things to her meathead daddy Brad. Ninety-nine percent of the time Parker acts like he can't stand either Jack or Carly.

JumpMe.... :P She must have really been upset at the thought of Libby getting sexed up....she couldn't be bothered teasing up to floozy hair today.

I know Craig's the villian of the show (or the older power-broker/dark prince) but I really get irritated when he plays the "you betrayed me" card. And EVERYONE lets him get away with it. It's ri-freakin-diculous that he chastised Lucy and called out Dusty. Dusty's acting the exact same way Craig did before the custody hearing. And Craig is forgetting a whole lot of machinations and betrayals he committed in the name of "protecting" Lucy.

Is there any point to Jade?? I know she deserved that slap, but I did laugh as Ali former porn queen/princess of the blue balls chastised her for bein' a big ol man chasin' whore. Ali chases them, she just stopped putting out.

Now that Em's given up on Casey...isn't it just a matter of time until she beds Ali's latest cast-off, Matt?

Maura looked beautiful in blue today. I just wish her story wasn't revolving around Craig. Then there's Parker, who's sure to make her feel like crap with his latest brainstorm.

^^^All props go to Dusty, he's the master magician of all things banner. :)

Where the freak is Susan in all of this? Y'know the storytelling is bad when your momma don't even show up when you almost die. (Well, the woman you call Mom, not your biological mother). Not to mention, it took me like five seconds to remember WTF Ali was doing in the hospital in the first place.

Wait---Ali was in the hospital!! I remember now, I left the room to go potty and when I returned it was over. Unfortunately Susan is working one of the 6 months straight shifts, hopefully she won't be joining John Dixon who hasn't been heard from since he went on his rounds.:blink:

Speaking of Carly--- MW always looks great when she's expecting, although her hair is a tad bit long for my taste.

Paul: She's Dusty's ex.

Emily: Who isn't?

LMAO!

That, and Em and Paul talking about their failed schemes were some highlights.

Craig's line to Dusty about "It sucks to lose" was awesome as well.

I can't express how little I care about Parker and Liberty's tortured angsty love. Please.

I'm just not buying Lucy as the 'bad girl'. Maybe it's because she looks like she should be elected junior prom queen and not a doctor at Oakdale Memorial. Seriously, the actress isn't bad but isn't it time we give Lucy a bit of an older look if they want us to buy these stories?

I know I shouldn't have, and considering I hate Parker's back talk it's strange, but I FLOVED Liberty mouthing off to Janet today. I thinks it's just because I loathe Janet's hypocrisy so much.

I agree with Kelly---it's really hard buying the now deviousLucy, when the actress looks right out of high school (I'd argue she looks younger than Libby), with that china doll complexion.

I honestly don't mind Dusty/Meg...but can't TIIC think of some new schtick. Meg trying on that dress just reminded me of the time Craig#3 bought her a costume for his ball.

Boy, I felt bad for Carly today, stuck between Jack and Parker like that. Parker's a brat, Jack is so stuck on being right he can't see straight. And I floved it when he told Craig to back off before he tore him apart. At least someone's not perpetually kissing Craig's ass. ;)

That was the FIRST thing I thought of.

For REAL, we get it. Meg is beautiful and every man in Oakdale thinks so.

Can we move on now?

I felt bad for Carly today too. She really does love Parker so much, and this is tearing her up.

I was shocked to hear Janet bring up Hal.

Sigh...and yet, Carly has to practically beg men to pay attention to her. Any other woman (Katie, Lily, Ali) have men dogging after them like flies on poop...and Carly gets the most boring, old DREGS no one else would look twice at.

Yeah...as if Janet's got a list of Carly's ex-husbands on file or something. I would have bought ANYONE else bringing up Hal's name---Carly, Craig, even Lucy. But that (^%*%??? NO WAY.

    • The other issue with Missy: in June 2020, she "liked" some social media posts by Candace Owens -- things Candace said that were against Black Lives Matter.  That is described here https://tvline.com/news/melissa-reeves-racism-days-of-our-lives-instagram-controversy-2894568/ I don't know if that was ever resolved.
    • She appeared onscreen not long after Rose Livingston and Sara Montaigne, and we found out that Sara was Rose's estranged daughter. I wonder whether Peggy might have been part of that family group -- or else they were just juggling a few different potential mysteries so that they could develop whatever seemed to be getting the best response from the audience. They didn't do anything much with Rose and Sara really either. Maybe Rose would have become more prominent if Rachel and Mac had split up over Mitch, or if Sara had really flourished. In some ways I can picture Cheryl being affected by MJ's prostitution similarly to how Josie was distressed by finding out about Sharlene. But I can also see that Josie as a Frame being involved with Matthew would have different stakes for Rachel and Sharlene than Cheryl being involved with Scott. I do think the solution for Cheryl would have had to be a badder boy than Scott -- either a real bad boy who would do her wrong, or the kind of bad boy (not Chad!!!) who is essentially misunderstood and other people just don't understand. Cheryl would also have been better off with some friends her own age. Matthew and Josie benefited a bit from having other teenagers to interact with.
    • Sally Spencer was a decent actress, but the writing destroyed the "M.J." that Kathleen Layman had built. Layman had a quiet strength about her, and she and Osburn really felt like sisters. Spencer's character should have been either an unmentioned sister, or maybe Jake's that grew up close to Kathleen, M.J. and the rest, but was away for a few years before joining the force. Kristen Marie was o.k., but I always got a mousier vibe from her. Being pigeon-holed with Scott for most of the run hurt things for her, as well.  The Loves were also underserved between Rhonda Lewin and Philece Sampler. Philece would have been better as Nicole. Thank goodness Anne Heche  showed up for the next round of auditions. Christopher Holder was mediocre as Peter, but given a shot, I think Marcus Smythe could have stuck around for a while.  I would have had Peggy Lazarus be a Frame -- possibly an ex-wife for Vince with an agenda. Smythe and Hollen had  a fun chemistry that could have kept the two around.. Bringing recasts for  Cheryl and Ben back mixing it up with other Frames. Corys, Lawrences at the time might have kept all the families stronger.
    • shoot...he said in that Locher room with Krista. I think he met her before that---she was doing Broadway and they had mutual friends or an agent maybe?
    • Yes. And I assume he met Mary Ellen Stuart at GL.
    • That's an odd coincidence. Yeah, Roger would turn anything he could to his advantage. At the time, he's just taking the pictures to bank leverage over Reva, Billy or the Lewises.  I'm kinda squeamish about 1986 episodes myself. I'd love to hear the original version of Ross/Vanessa/Dinah, but the Cain story is bad, and I don't want Billy and Vanessa to break up.
    • Eeek. I didn't know this either! I will say, though, even though they skimmed over a lot of Roger's past, I will give them props for not trying to turn him into a hero. Yeah, I was hoping we would get more 1986 episodes than were available on YT before, but now I'm wondering if I really want to see that.
    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited. And @errol said JHC is working in a nonproduction capacity at Y&R.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
