Happy New Year, everybody. I hope everyone had a peaceful, healthy holiday. Looks like Congress is kicking the year off with plenty of dysfunction and yet, I can't bring myself to care.

Do we have any Canadians here willing to explain what's going on with our neighbor to the north? Justin Trudeau is resigning?

I think he's resigning mainly to save face because he knows that the Liberal Party is pretty much screwed and there's a very good chance that the Conservative Party is going to take over. If that's the case, then maybe Trump won't have to invade Canada because the new government might as well just hand it over to him to annex. Hell, maybe they'll become allies and form a super state to invade Mexico, Greenland and Panama. /s

I mean, we're pretty much screwed no matter what we do. There is no point in resisting because the military will destroy us if we even try to protest. Bring on World War Three. Hell, there's a good chance nothing will remain in four years, not even us.

It was time for Trudeau to go but unfortunately, we're going to a get a Prime Minister, in Pierre Poilievre, who is "friendly" with the far-right, and he's going to get a majority government (according to the polls).  The government has been prorogued until March 24th.  Once the government is back, a no-confidence vote will be held which will officially topple the Trudeau government and kick off a new election.  The election will probably happen in the spring.

Trudeau has been the face of attacks for so long now, and the politics that he preached (inclusion, diversity) are now a pariah. I'm surprised he has lasted this long.

It's more interesting to me to see how the far right are trying to cope with Trump and his fascist clown car. Doug Ford was very openly aggressive against Trump's threats, whereas in the UK, Nigel Farage is cowering in fear, Ted Cruz style, of Elon Musk.

Doug Ford has been saying a lot of right things when it comes to standing up against Trump.  I'm not a Ford fan, but if I had to choose a Conservative Leader, I'd choose Ford over Poilievre.

I didn't know what "prorogue" meant so I looked it up.

I don't quite understand, does this mean that everything is just on pause for a while?

I believe so.  Think of it like Congress sitting empty for 3 months.  That's what's happening to the Parliament.

Thank you for checking in. I wish I was more informed about all this and I appreciate you taking the time to explain.

North Carolina is getting more and more dangerous and is becoming a clearer and clearer corrupt state where the hateful state GOP do anything they can for power.
