Dick Durbin the #2 Illinois Democrat in the Senate announced today that he won't run for re-election.  It is a good decision as he is 80 years old.  The Lt. Governor, Juliana Stratton has announced she will run for this seat.  Lauren Underwood, a Congresswoman in the House is one of the few people mentioned that may also run.

I'm hoping Underwood runs and wins.  She is more of a moderate democrat as her district has a lot of rural area.  She is a young former nurse and a very active house member who supports her district her well.

Mark Carney and the Liberal Party will form government in Canada!  Thanks God! No word yet if it's going to be a majority or minority government.

I hate Pierre Poilievre and I'm so happy to see him blow a 25 point lead from January.  For those who don't know, Pierre is a populist who has tendencies to the far right.  He went on-and-on about wokeness; he wanted to defund the CBC (Canada's public broadcaster); caters to far right media (like going on Jordan Peterson podcast); has a disdain for real journalism/journalists (doesn't like taking questions from them); his Chief of Staff is a MAGAt.

But to be real, Mark Carney/Liberal Party won because of two people: Trump for threatening Canada's sovereignty/imposing tariffs and Justin Trudeau for stepping down.  It was suppose to be a Conservative majority before those two things happened.  LOL

Sadly, it's going to be minority government.   Was hoping we wouldn't have another election before 2029 but with it being a minority, there's a chance it would happen.  Ugh.  Gonna need the NDP to gain more seats because I can see them working better with the Liberals than the Bloc Quebecois.

As an American, my knowledge of Canadian government is practically nil. But I'm guessing, even with a minority government, that Carney as PM is still a victory over the Trump of Canada, Pollievre.

So, majority or minority, I'm glad Canada doesn't take democracy for granted as so many here in the US did/still do.

Welcome to the board. Some posters who seem to have left post-November (if so, I don't blame them) used to talk about Underwood and how great she was. I wish we had more figures like her and less showboats, like JB Pritzker.

Carney is a banker, the type of presence who normally would not win because he isn't seen as exciting enough, not to mention the headwinds from Trudeau being in power for a decade. Trump did him a huge favor, as he is seemingly going to do in Australia soon too with their own version of Trump (Dutton).

The funniest part is Pollievre even lost his seat. I remember seeing him being pushed for years by the same grimy networks that bankroll Dave Rubin. There were so many plans for him that Trump completely demolished.

Even if this country is likely pretty much over, at least other countries are learning from our mistake.

    • Nothing makes sense on this show. I wish there was a garbage can emoji. That sums up 90% of the show right now.

Jane Wyman return episode was head-to-head w/ Cheers season 8 finale. Falcon Crest broadcast syndication began Fall 1986, which overlapped w/ Oprah going national. AFAIK cable broadcasts were Lifetime and Soapnet. I have no memory of cable broadcasts on TBS, TNT, TNN, E!, FX.
    • After today’s rushed and abrupt exit for Summer I immediately realized that Josh & Co. were very blindsided by AL’s decision to leave.  Not the first time this has happened to JG either; see MM & HK’s exits in 2021, MM’s exit in 2022, and of course TSJ’s exit last year. Obviously JG and our executive in charge of nothing Steve Kent don’t have a good handle on casting disruptions. And Mariah having an offscreen affair is [!@#$%^&*] ridiculous!! Meanwhile Tessa’s blonde hair is overkill with the number of blondes on the show already. I said the same thing 3 years ago…of course it was utterly ridiculous everyone was mad at Sally for getting Summer he dream job (don’t ask lol) but there was so much the show could have done without bringing on the Marchetti angle.
    • Does the ball on GL where Philip revealed that he had forced Alan out of Spaulding count or was that not Philip's idea?  There was a ball on AMC where Adam revealed that he had bankrupted Palmer, I think (or was it the other way around?), but I can't remember who threw that.
    • Thanks for honoring Ruth Buzzi. She was a treasure. I'm glad DAYS let her have some fun. I remember Imogene Coca complaining about ATWT just giving her a drab guest part.
    • It's such a delicious set of circumstances that I'm actually a little surprised that I can't think of ones that exactly match. I've just got a couple of close but no cigars (the reveal wasn't public, like when Alexis told Dominique at her and Garrett's engagement party that Garrett lied about being married; or the revealer didn't come up with the idea of the party). Maybe I need to think some more about it.
    • Not too shabby, making her mark in only six episodes. There's a project for the soap historians -- characters with the least episodes/most impact.
    • Which could make sense , except that we have seen Mariah function for years w/o any real residue pain from her upbringing. Josh decides to randomly make it a thing, when a good writer might foreshadow that for months. It's not like he's just arrived at the show. He's been there for years . Everything seems to be thought out only a few weeks ahead. It's like Phyllis all freaky from being kidnapped when she has done a million other things that didn't seem to bother her at all.
    • Unrelated, sort of, but he looks absolutely nothing like Amanda Setton or Dominic Zamprogna so it's kind of hilarious they decided to make Gio their kid.  It's very clear this was not the original origin story for Gio when they cast him. He is a very handsome guy though.
