After a wonderful birthday holiday I returned to Germany who had elections yesterday and they gave the far-right n''i party 20 percent of the vote.

How much more depressing can this get? Will I live to see my marriage to my husband become just a piece of paper without any standing to it? I am scared.

And meanwhile in my birth country homophobia is becoming so prevalent and so in fashion that people feel it's okay to spur homophobic slurs under all social media and absolutely NO LAW defends us. I've stopped posting under social media, because the russian-bought trolls find that I'm gay and they attack me every time about it.

It's just... sad. I'm 30 years old for f-cks sake and I'm feeling like these people are stealing my life from me. When will it change again? Will I have to suffer though this my entire youth?

All of these are rhetorical questions.

Just give it right back to them!!! There's nothing for you to be scared of. You want fear? The AIDS crisis began when I was 14 years old. Gay acceptance is higher than it's ever been, but unfortunately, gender idology attachingn to our community like a leech is bringing us down.

Yes, Mark Alford tried to do this today, claim that the people upset were plants... when one of the most critical is the Democrat CHAIR for one of the counties he represents, who just happens to be a friend of mine of 40 years. (She was my high school Geography teacher) I went to his facebook page and told that carpetbagger off.

He won't stop repeating that 51st state bull and now... once again attacks Europe with baseless claims. He is acting exactly like Putin. Copy Paste Putin. Period. He is more insane than I ever imagined. He is really at a level that people get institutionalized. Mad. He has delusions and is out of touch with reality.

Religious bigotry. And a path to overturn the ruling that stopped enforcing sodomy laws.

I've seen some Republicans feign discomfort at this bill, but they will go along. They always do. And any gay Republicans will do the same.

But religious bigotry won't be enough for the Supreme Court. At least it shouldn't be, but with the current one I guess you can't be sure....

I just don't see what legal argument they could hope to bring before the SCOTUS. At least with the abortion issue they could use the (albeit flimsy) excuse of protecting the right of the unborn, but what possible legal reason could they use here?

Paramount rollback of DEI Initiatives to align with Trump (per George Cheeks and co-CEOs)
https://variety.com/2025/biz/news/paramount-eliminating-dei-trump-1236321790/

Posting this in "Discuss the Soaps" because it's a statement from George Cheeks and his co-CEOs at Paramount.
George Cheeks has been promoting Beyond the Gates...  to the point where a portrait of Cheeks' real-life father is on the wall of a BTG set.

Paramount Global — as it seeks FCC approval for its deal with Skydance Media and amid a pending lawsuit filed by President Trump against CBS News — told employees that it will change some of its diversity, equity and inclusion programs to comply with the Trump administration’s directives.

Quoting a few excerpts from the article

In a memo to employees Wednesday, Paramount co-CEOs George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins, cited the Trump administration’s mandates as requiring “changes in the way the company approaches inclusion moving forward. As a result, some of our policies must change to comply with these new mandates.”

Per the Paramount co-CEOs’ memo, obtained by Variety, the company will no “longer set or use aspirational numerical goals related to the race, ethnicity, sex or gender of hires.” In addition, it has ended its policy of collecting race, ethnicity, sex or gender data for U.S. job applicants on its forms and careers page, except in markets where that’s legally required, per the memo.

The media company also has eliminated the “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” qualitative metric in its short-term incentive plan that directly connected 5% of funding for the program to Paramount’s “success in progress on companywide DEI initiatives, including aspirational representation goals,” the execs wrote. Now, Paramount will base 10% of STIP funding on its “Workforce Culture and Development” qualitative metric, “which is focused on building a high-performing and inclusive culture, including through developing leadership and engaging our workforce. ”

The Paramount chiefs sent the memo Wednesday, when the company also reported fourth quarter 2024 earnings results. Paramount said it continues to expect the $8 billion merger with Skydance to close in the first half of 2025 — a deal that is contingent on approval from the FCC.

Prior to the 2024 U.S. election, Trump sued CBS News over a “60 Minutes” interview with former VP Kamala Harris that aired Oct. 7, alleging the news program deceptively edited the video. Earlier this month he amended the lawsuit to demand damages of $20 billion.  Brendan Carr, the Trump-appointed FCC chairman, has said Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News will likely will be a factor during the FCC’s review of the Skydance-Paramount merger.
