The right's latest effort to smear Harris/Walz?

Jeff Walz, Tim Walz's brother, who allegedly supports Trump. Because no other family has one of those. (Hi, RFK, Jr.!) /s

The Trump campaign oppo on Vance, etc. leaked to major papers (who then promptly refused to publish them while straining to find more to ding Harris about) has begun leaking to major political bloggers and Twitter people. I think we may be seeing it shortly, finally.

i’ve been meaning to discuss what has been bothering me about the discussion re gus walz’s emotional display at the dnc.

while most of the conversation centered on that fact that gus is on the spectrum, what i think is the most important part of the reaction of the maga right has gotten lost in the shuffle.

here’s an early post from some radio dj, jay weber:

“Sorry, but this is embarrassing for both father and son,” the WISN-AM radio jockey wrote last week on X. “If the Walzs [sic] represent today’s American man, this country is screwed; ‘Meet my son, Gus. He’s a blubbering bitch boy. His mother and I are very proud.’”

while weber deleted the post after learning that gus is neurodivergent, that misses the point: the maga crowd has a narrow, hypermasculine view of male behavior; and any male who would allow the world see him display raw emotions is a “blubbering bitch boy” and “the country is screwed”

to which i say “[!@#$%^&*] you, jay weber — [!@#$%^&*] you!”

ABC's This Week and access journo Jonathan Karl immediately try to spin this poll, of course and gets mocked in the comments and ratioed:

This head in the sand attitude re: a 6 point lead reminds me of how they tried to pretend Romney was still keeping it tight in 2012. He was their dream GOP candidate and they refused to let go, perhaps even moreso than the old chestnut of how everything was good news for John McCain.

@Vee I've been seeing that talking point everywhere about how her lack of bounce is so notable. I think they all got it from Nate Silver. Another is hee-hawing over her losing support in a Minnesota poll.

It isn't really, as it turns out. What was said by several prominent analysts, and I think it's true (including the one upthread), is that Harris' bounce was largely already baked-in by the convention, with the massive momentum for her and Walz that hasn't let up since July. Instead of a typical convention bounce in a normal election run, she came in late and now she just keeps gaining and now overtaking Trump in many polls or key states instead and has a more sustained growth. That's what Michael McDonald means in my post above.

But I'm not surprised they're trying to pretend that logic doesn't exist. They need a horse race and their willful blindness is starting to feel like their handling of Romney 2012 to me, where they pretended it was still real close. I'm not saying this is that - we're still close in a number of states and there is more work to do - but we haven't lost the wind or the narrative once since July. Trump is still flailing. Next I'm sure they're going to try to set expectations sky high for the debate in hopes of finally bringing Kamala down to earth.

AOC tells the truth about Jill Stein (some of the old Stein cronies like Brie Brie are not happy).

Being in Congress has done wonders for AOC. She is not the same person she was when she was first elected, and I like that.

Amazing to me how desperately they've been focusing on Walz (which hasn't penetrated voters beyond the right wing bubble, despite media attempts to float it). They've still got no real consistent material on Harris, the top of the ticket.
