^I've heard OF him, but I wouldn't know his work if I heard it, since I'm only a very lax follower of the Indian film industry and do not understand any Hindi or any of the regional Indian languages.

A few weeks ago, I bought the 1998-ish soundtrack to ER. It's great. Lots of wonderful Marty Davich piano scores along with the usual frenetic ER music.

A R Rahman to perform live at the Oscars

The Mozart of Madras will perform a live concert at Oscar Awards function in America. Close on the heels of winning the coveted Golden Globe award for his music score in Slumdog Millionaire, Rahman has managed clinch not one but three Oscar nominations for his score in the film. The Oscar Award function is to be held Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre. Sukwindher Singh will sing the song Jai Ho. A R Rahman has informed this to Sukwindher Singh and asked him to be ready. Sukwindher said that singing in the concert is not a new thing but singing at the Oscars is a big thing. Gulzar who wrote the lyrics will also attend the Oscars. It is also pertinent to note that the song Chaya Chaya sung by Sukwindher Singh and composed by A R Rahman was the title song of the Hollywood film Inside Man which had Denzel Washington in the lead.

Also, the person who mentioned the "Pearl Harbor" soundtrack by Hans Zimmer! I used to listen to that non-stop.

I was that person. :D

Michael Giacchino ("LOST", "The Incredibles", "Ratatouille").

I was actually watching "Ratatouille" with my neice and the music immediately made me think of "LOST". That was before I even knew that Giacchino had scored that film.

I haven't seen Ratatouille but yeah, Michael Giacchino's music is very recognizable.

Glad to see another MG fan. :)

I love this piece from Season 1. It's such a beautiful piece.

It starts at the 5 minute mark.

I've always been a huge admirer of Michel Legrand's work. Even though I wasn't alive when he was probably at the peak of his career, I've come to appreciate his work over the years.

I recently got a free copy of the Yentl DVD and I only watched because of Legrand's Oscar winning scoring. This guy is bloddy brilliant. I only wish there was a whole album devoted to the Yentl compositions without Streisand's singing (though very heartfelt and beautiful).

Too bad not a lot of his stuff is on YouTube, especially from Yentl. I was only able to find medlies, which don't each of the unique songs enough justice.

Here's a video with fellow composer and legend, John Williams, conducting the orchestra, and Michel Legrand playing the piano to Legrand's songs from Yentl.

Here's another medley video with the songs from Yentl, this time with a more string-centered arrangement, very beautiful.

Legrand is probaby best known for his Oscar winning scoring for Summer of 72, and his song The Summer Knows would eventually become a popular standard.

Here it is: Anyone who LOVES piano driven scores will probably LOVE this.

I first heard this piece in "No Reservations" and thought it was by Philip Glass since he was the composer of the film, but it's actually Mark Isham's music from "Life As A House".

Mark Isham's "Building A Family":

I nod/move my head to the music everytime I listen to it. LOL
