Lauren Koslow: Leave, Stay or Return!

Although nothing concrete has surfaced regarding Lauren Koslow's future at DAYS I do think it is relevant to discuss where this actress really belongs. A lot of fans have never liked her on DAYS, a lot of fans can't recall her time on Y&R (as Jack Abbott's devious wife Lindsey Wells Abbott) and an awful lot of fans hunger for her return to B&B.

If I had my say I would want Lauren to make her triumphant return to B&B, Bill Bell created a role specifically for her on that show and I think it's only fitting that she return to the show that was tailor made for her. The character of Margo Lynley was the ONLY character to ever stand shoulder to shoulder, face to face with Susan Flannery's Stephanie Forrester and serve as a real rival. The chemistry Koslow shared with the cast was dynamic and believable.

Koslow is the right age to return to B&B with the impending exit (one of these days) of Susan Flannery, B&B is in desperate need of a fashionista diva. The re invigoration of a rivalry between the Forresters and a rival fashion entity is something which Lauren Koslow's Margo Lynley is perfectly suited for.

Even if she returns to B&B, what are the chances that Bradley and Alden will write for her for more than six months before she's bumped to recurring and ultimately never to be seen on the show again?

Brad has ADD, he clearly doesn't want and know how to write for certain characters after a while.

I say Koslow is smart for riding out her contract status at DAYS, no matter how shaky it looks. Compared to career prospects at B&B, it looks pretty damn steady.

I'd love to see her back at B&B but, as Turner said, she would get crappy storylines, she would be thrust in a triangle from hell, her character would be destroyed, and she would be backburned or written out after six months. She is way more secure on DAYS, and Y&R, which I also wouldn't mind at all.

I of all people know about Brad and his ADD. However, who would've thought that Jackie Wagner or Heather Tom would've gotten so much story? There has to be an exception to the rule, and you never know who that might be.

Anyway, I think there are enough older women on the show that aren't getting any attention. We have Beth, Jackie, and Stephanie. (Ann I guess, but who knows what's going to happen with her). None of them are currently involved in anything big. I'm assuming that any fling/romance that Margo would have, could be had by Beth or Jackie.

All very valid arguments.

I think Koslow's run on B&B would have to be for the long haul in order for it to benefit the show. The fact is Darlene Conley's death was a bigger blow to the show than I think anyone associated with B&B imagined. I think Brad was convinced that the Marone's were going to work out and become the new Spectras...but they flopped. They just weren't as likable as Sally and her crew was and it was the likability factor that sustained Sally for nearly 20 years. Furthermore, the addition of Koslow would necessitate the exit of Lesley Anne Down which although I love LAD...I wouldn't shed too many tears, Margo Lynley trumps Jackie Marone any day of the week.

Essentially, Brad needs to get over his ADD and realize that certain characters are necessary for the structural integrity of the show. Margo Lynley is easily the most viable option for a rival fashion designer. When she left the show in 1992 Margo was embittered against the Forresters and simply fled town out of embarrassment caused by her brother stealing the Belief formula. Currently, the show is running with only one lightning rod: Stephanie. It needs another in order to move forward.

Returning to Y&R would be exciting since it's been over 20 years since Lindsey wreaked havoc on Jack and Jill's lives. Lindsey was the woman who got the incriminating photos of Jack and Jill's affair that Katherine used as ammunition in destroying Jill's marriage to John. Every character Lindsey interacted with is still on canvas. To think, a legitimate rival for Jill, a thorn in Jack's side, a triumphant ally for Katherine. She'd be staying in the Sony family, could be promising.

I can also see the logic in riding out DAYS for as long as she can. Lauren does get good airtime as Kate and she gets a good wardrobe. Certainly, she's been playing the same storyline since she started in '96 but that isn't her fault. She simply plays what she's given, she doesn't re write scripts...that's what I hate about Lauren toiling at DAYS, it doesn't seem that she's ever going to get to play anything like she did at Y&R or B&B and I know she's capable of great things. DAYS wastes yet another talent.

I like the idea of a return to Y&R.

It would bring in history, which is something that works for veteran characters.

Although Terry Lester was playing Jack,so there could be no flashbacks with him or Jess Walton.

Did Lynsey just vanish from GC or was there a proper write-out?

Could Lynsey have had a child by Jack,or did she stay in town too long for that to happen?

Not that I necessarily want another long lost child to arrive.

on that subject, hopefully a recast Keemo will come to town!

This show needs desperately and all-powerful, rich as hell, self-reliant, ambitious, sophisticated über-b!tch who has a good side but rarely shows it. And she should have a name like Margo or Dominique Deveraux or Iris Carrington. Something a bit French, aristocratic. Someone who eats grapes and drinks champagne in bed for breakfast, where she reclines on embroidered Pratesi sheets. :D Yeah, I know it's a total cliche, but it must be done.

She should also wear superb outfits with amazing, outrageous hats. But for that, the chief costume desginer of B&B needs to be fired. Now.

It does and Lauren Koslow could definitely do it. She can put on the faux-English airs with the best of them and play with those clichés and have great fun doing so. She is also amazing at coaxing out chemistry from younger male co-stars (Victor Webster comes to mind). I thought Lesley-Anne Down had it in her to play that sort of gorgeously seductive role (given her Sunset Beach experience) but I guess not. LK is more subtle an actress, though. Plus Margo's history on the show with Bill Spencer, Ridge and Eric will have Stephanie and Brooke, at least, fit to be tied.

[speaking of Bill -- I wouldn't mind the old fox returning to B&B, too. Even if it was only to usher Stephanie off on her world cruise with Sally Spectra while Margo (with Sally's implicit blessing) takes control of Spectra Designs/Jackie M/whateverthehell it is called now. First act of business? Hiring Deacon as her marketing man!]

Don't even tease me about Birgit Muller. Margo should be swanning around in vintage YSL or Valentino. I guess Nolan Miller (even though he is almost too 80s) had a Valentino edge to his designs. Perhaps B&B could pull some strings? Or steal Y&R's costumer who at least managed to procure a Birkin bag, Pauline Trigère wedding gown and other goodies for Sabrina's wardrobe.

I totally agree with everything you said. In my opinion, B&B should be like French pop: "elegant, refined" but "without coming off as distant or unemotional"; in fact, the dominant feeling being — "romantic longing, nostalgia, sentimentality, eroticism". All that without sleaze and sap. Couple that with riveting business storylines and you've got yourself a hit. Pure pleasure to watch.

Business should be a crucial, crucial part of this show.

    • Yes, I forgot there was a gap between his exit from GL and his start at ATWT. This almost makes me want to cry. He really turned ATWT around (and good for them). It would have been great if someone had done the same for GL. Can't imagine who. The Dobsons were doing Santa Barbara at this point. I mainly blame Kobe. She may not have been the worst EP they ever had, but she almost totally destroyed the Bauers and decimated much of the rest of the cast, sometimes for egotistical reasons. That was a huge mistake and made it that much harder for the show to recover.
    • Douglas Marland began at As the World Turns in September 1985 but it took about a year for his run to show growth in the ratings. 1986 As the World Turns becomes CBS's #2 daytime drama after Y&R.
    • This is not at all surprising. Watching the recently uploaded episodes, the uneveness is SO apparent. Characters are changing at the drop of a hat. The stories are close to incoherent. It's a mess, and we're only up to May. What a fall from grace. An Emmy-winning show with good ratings and within a few short years hitting possible cancelation territory.  I'm surprised CBS and/or P&G didn't try to do SOMETHING to restore its former glory. Was Marland still at ATWT at this point?
    • I think she did, yes. The only part of that return I remember appreciating was the ripoff they did of Earrings of Madame De, where a secretly broke India sold a trinket and Ross or Alan (I think it was Ross) then bought it for her, not knowing it was hers.
    • 6-4   Getting around to the rewatching and I guess Dani/Bill/Hayley as A story is coming around better to me. I hope that means that I will feel different about Friday's episode which first time around I felt was more of a Wednesday/Thursday episode. Anita's story and Dani/Bill/Hayley (with Kat vs SilkPress being a solid B plot to keep the SilkPress storyline alive, but NOT A story) have been the focus for this past week. So I'm worried I'll feel a way when I get back to Friday's episode. I guess I'm about to find out.   I know I have issues with Dani/Bill/Hayley coming back into focus since the much better paced SilkPress storyline is truly where it's at with so much aftermath/new direction to explore. However, I'm finding that...just like with the story of Martin's secret being slowly woven back into the story narrative...I care a little bit more for it since it's been background since Week 3, Month 1. IMHO the characters...outside of Hayley...have been developed in other plots. The past week and a half has had Dani and Andre growing closer and they have gotten to the 'third month what are we?' talk that I expect in all relationships in real life. And I liked how the writers have slowly had friction between them to see what they are made of? Is it still just a booty call or can it be more? Meanwhile, Bill has been hiding his physical issues for months. Too busy messing with other people's marriages.

So now that they have some more POV to them, it was good to see an organic...and yes, it was organic...reason for them to be in the same room. In this case...the hospital room. Lord, Karla and Timon have such great chemistry. And Dani and Bill were so acting like exes. No wonder Hayley feels threatened. Oh, well. lol. Bonus...the drama with Bill has Hayley and Naomi back in each other's orbit. They don't have enough scenes together.    You all know I was waiting for Anita's story. So how am I feeling? Pretty good. TT has been playing it to the hilt. And I was not expecting the story of a fourth member who killed themselves after being pushed out. And it's had a build. First through Tracy. And now with Sharon...who is swiftly being established as a piece of work. A Have-Not (if not Has-Been) who is not above scheming. Okay. lol. I liked the conversation between Anita and Vernon where she told him the truth, and he tried to hold her up. Whether she deserved it or not, it was good to see. I'm sure all of the secrets are not out yet so I look forward to more. Cuz we know they are not cancelling the reunion. Which fingers crossed...will be at the police fundraiser.     Honestly, I continued to be impressed with how the writers have kept Silk Press Sheila out of jail, but still playing the beats of it all. She's definitely in covering her tracks mode, and it's great to watch. It's also great to see her mixing it up with different characters. I was happy to get the long-awaited showdown between her and Nosy Nurse and Nosy Nurse READ...HER...DOWN. I was just disappointed Nosy Nurse spilled some tea. And that led to SilkPress's scene with Andre. And then Andre...lord...talked too much.   C plot this episode has been Chelesa's love life. I was wondering where it was going to go after her talk with Vernon. Enter...Mystery Woman. I wonder what her secret would be that would get in her way with Chels. Related to an enemy of the Duprees? Married? I am intrigued. And I do like Chelesa getting the spotlight because daytime does not really do it like how they are doing it with her.    Can Kat and Jacob get a spinoff? lol.
    • 1986 began with the EP change from Gail Kobe to Joe Willmore and the HW change from Pamela Long to Jeff Ryder. Over the course of 1986 there was turnover in the HW ranks: Jeff Ryder, Jeff Ryder and Mary Ryan Munisteri as co-HWs, Mary Ryan Munisteri and Ellen Barrett as co-HWs, Joseph Manetta, Joseph Manetta and Sheri Anderson as co-HWs. The 1986 ratings reflected the quality of the show. GL was saved from cancel territory in 1986 because Capitol was still CBS's lowest-rated daytime drama.
    • As Michael should be...DARK.   I'm just getting through my first few scenes of Rory as Michael. And I'm already picking up chemistry with LW, EMcCoy, and SMattson from the jump. I liked Rory as Noah on Y&R, but felt it was wasted potential. So far...he's proving me right.
    • Oh, lord. Those rumors are true, aren't they?
    • Is it supposed to be romantic that Victor and Kyle are using Claire as some sort of contractual agreement? Ridiculous. I was waiting for Claire to squirt water out of the huge flower on her dress. And within minutes of the Monday episode beginning the first mention of ...guess who???
    • I haven't been able to watch GH lately, but I just saw this clip.  Wow.  Rory Gibson is so different from his time at Y&R.  This really speaks to the bad writing at Y&R I guess! A lot of fire here.
