I agree. However he wasnt awful either. For a bit there he has great storylines and would soap them to the extreme and get press, get people talking. But his stories for soem time did always build build vuild, hit, and then push new storytelling. Not a lot was random and out of nowhere.

However it was obvious he was either a mad man starting to lsoe control or got to full of himself.

Back in the mid '90s (shortly after the possession storyline ended), I had a strong impression of Days as being something horrible, ridiculous, terrible, painful to watch. It brought me physical agony to watch it, and I'd yell at my sister for watching it. "Why do you keep watching this?!?! GOD!!!" Then, by '97, I was fully engrossed with Susan's flying teeth... go fig... I'll always remember it as being golden in the early '90s, though, and although it wasn't perfect then either, it was like pure spring water vs. JERk's sewer sludge (sorry, Toups, can't mince words)... now, it's not so much poo-water as it is Diet Pepsi, but that's another thread altogether...

I will echo the previous posters that said JER was good in the early and mid 1990s. He did a good job writing GL with Stephen Demorest and Nancy Curlee (come back Nancy! We miss you!!) and his first Days stint had a lot of good moments in it (Carrie/Sami/Austin -- GREAT triangle back then!) like Maison Blanche, the Aremid story, and John's near execution.

The possession story was one you either loved or hated. I thought it was decent, but it didn't belong on Days. Where was Dark Shadows at the time? It would have worked well on Passions if Passions had been on at the time.

As decent as his first stint was, the second stint was awful. I won't go into "were the dead supposed to stay dead" or anything because we've hashed it out on here repeatedly, but had all of the Days characters stayed dead the show would have been a shell of its old self. Instead we got a horrible island story, a story involving Wayne Northrop's return that was one-note from the get-go, and a Shawn/Mimi pairing? (I only say the last part because it was obvious from the get-go Claire was going to be Belle and Shawn's, and that would have ruined it for everyone. Turns out for the Shimi supporters, it did.)

By the time JER's second go-round ended, it was painfully obvious a replacement was needed. He will show up on another show eventually as a consultant or a writer and who knows? He may be good again at what he does. Personally, I hope he never, ever darkens the door of Days again. That's just me, though. :)

    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
    • @Efulton thank you. I don't know how I missed it or didn't recall it.  I'll blame amnesia . Anyway @Errol Could the newer thread be merged to the existing? Thanks in advance.
    • I just finished watching and I have to admit, not once did I find myself wondering who wasn't there. Quick question for anyone who followed this better than I did: was it only Andrew who rescued Cat and John from Clyde, or was Shane involved too? The reactions during their scenes today felt a little off to me. I know it was meant to be vague, but I didn't find it strange that they already knew each other.
    • Yeah, financially, Luna is in better shape than Deacon and Sheila.   -- Scott Clifton must have decided to chew the scenery in every scene of this "Liam is Dying" storyline. Yikes.
    • If J.R. wasn't busy with Ewing Oil, he'd be a heckuva soap recapper. He was SO gleeful at recapping Jenna-Bobby-Pam when the trio and Mark encountered each other at the Oil Baron's Ball. That being said, Lucy, presumably Sue Ellen and maybe Ray should all know this story, or at least part of it. Lucy was definitely at Southfork during Jenna and Bobby's relationship, and I believe Sue Ellen was about to marry J.R. around the time Jenna jilted Bobby. (Ray might not have given a damn.)
