Members Dr. Jay S.W.
My favorite thing about Y&R right now is the romance that could come about with Neil and Tyra if Eva stays. The little girl is cool too.
Members DeeeDee
Go what route? It is what it is. Bullsh.it. There's been PLENTY of singing on Y&R yet when characters of color do it does it become the WORST. THING. EVER.
Members dm.
Who said that? The only reason we don't like it much is because Ana appeared in 9 episodes for now, and she sang in 6 of those. That's too much. And I guess we can expect even more. It's okay when it's for some big event or something, but she's doing it on a regular basis. Members Greg's GL
I am really, really, REALLY wanting to like Tyra. She's obviously beautiful and from what little the writers have given her to do, she seems like a capable actress. But so far the story is lacking spark for me. Something needs to stir it up a little. I want to see some fire between her and Neil.... something....

Members dm.
Yeah, Tyra's so peaceful and everything. We don't need another Karen here. But now Karen is showing sparks. Maybe both of them need something to light them up.

Members DeeeDee
Whole episodes have not been based around her singing like other characters yet she sings too much? And even if she sang one or one hundred times the constant insincere bitching about her is only a symptom of a much more heinous problem. Because she's a singer. Nobody says Daniel DRAWS too much. Members MarkH
In general, over the years, I have appreciated the singing (and Leslie Brooks' piano, and so forth). Y&R was always the musical soap. Cat is right: For a contingent of fans, the singing has also brought out the hate, too. I do believe dmarex has highlighted one problem with Ana in particular: Singing in 6 out of 9 shows, with three songs yesterday, is more than most of the historical singing. Even in the historical days, I mostly think Danny only sang one song per episode unless it was a concert. And (but I could be wrong...I tallied no numbers) I don't think he generally sang in 6 out of 9 episodes. This group also has a problem with precocious children: Noah (Hunter Allan) was reviled (when I thought he was great). So you take a little distaste for singing, a little distaste for young kids, and they meet in a perfect storm in Ana, who has the third curse: Newbie. We don't know her or her mother well enough to appreciate the singing yet. That said, a post in the spoiler area has now explained to me where they are going with this singing and why...so I'm now super-cool with it. Also, I had closed my mind to the singing, and so I FF'd through it yesterday (first time). As a consequence I MISSED Ana's beautiful "How Can I Stop From Singing", which set up that amazing, amazing montage. So, that has reminded me to try to always watch, and listen, with an open mind. [but I CANNOT do that for B&B right now].
Members Greg's GL
IA buddy. I think Nia Peeples can act. Well. If potentially given the right story. We're good to go with the players, now we just need the story.
Members dm.
Because he hasn't been. We don't actually see him while he's drawing for a few minutes. But never mind, it's not a big deal. Then I guess you like her constantly singing?
Members Cat
C'mon! No way. When Jewel did a WHOLE episode warbling at Cassie's memorial, I was bitching like crazy about it here. Singing on soaps annoys me. Period. It is overkill. Race has nothing to do with it. I would much rather the so-called "characters of color" on this show weren't treated like PSAs and had a friggin proper SL of the magnitude that Eric Braeden, MTS and Josh Morrow are currently getting instead of this filler song-fest. Neil should be squaring off with Adam right about now. Neil should be undercutting Cane's position at Jabot and getting up in his face about Chloe right about now. Neil should be undressing Tyra with his eyes right about now. Instead, Y&R's Emmy-winner is doing this? Waste.
Members Greg's GL
Mark - same thing happened to me. The singing doesn't bother me at all, but for some reason I was FF through this last song. I saw the montage and thought it was well done. HOWEVER, after reading here how Ana's song set the entire thing up, I went back and watched it again - this time watching Ana sing "How Can I Stop From Singing". Then what I thought was a well-done montage turned into an AMAZING montage for me. Her song set up the entire thing perfectly. JG did a great job with that one.
