I love Pratt's original quote: "I'm having great fun with this. I think Annie was suffering from being a little whiny and boring and by making her deliciously desperate, not evil, but desperate and really playing that, it's become a nice conflict. Ryan is an honorable guy; what's he gonna do with all of this? I'm really straightening out those lines."

I haven't been calling her Blandie on this board for the past year or so for nothing!

So far, I like most of Pratt's ideas and am looking forward August 27th when his material starts airing.

Actually he is universally hated and not with just onliners. Besides just because onliners are a smaller percentage doesn't mean what they say/feel doesn't count........

No one is able to measure the popularity of a soap character. You or anyone else, no one has any clue if Ryan is universally hated or if he is universally loved. The only way to find out would be to track down every single fan of All My Children and ask them if they hated Ryan through out his entire soap career and then take a poll. For all anyone knows Ryan could be the most well liked character of AMC or he could be the most loathed but no one can say that because ultimately no one knows. Ryan was uber popular when he was paired with Gillian and Kendell so saying that he is universally hated and always has been is not accurate at all especially since those couples had strong followings when the ratings were stronger and more people watched daily.

Onliners feelings are valid but they are not the be all end all consensus for all daytime fans. Not by a long shot. If that were the case Laison, Tash, Blair/Todd and Zendell would be more popular then Luke and Laura and they just are. not.

As to Ryan being honorable he was honorable in his pairings with Gillian, Kendell and Annie.

'm so glad that you posted what you did. I personally like Ryan too and I know lots and lots of viewers that feel like we do.

Hmm well then I'm curious.......Where are these lots and lots of viewers that love Ryan, cause I'm not seeing any? If they exist why aren't they writing letters to the mags, why isn't there more support for the character.

Oh and Skin I stand by what I said, cause Cameron HIMSELF said Ryan lost ALOT of support due to the monster storyline, and no actor would say that unless there was something that backed that up

Not everyone is going to write in to soap editors and magazines. If you truely believe that all fans are going to take time after time and write letter after letter over a soap storyline or a soap couple, ect. then that is a serious gross misconception for soap fans. Not all fans are going to be calling the hotlines, organizing campaigns and managing mail strategies to the networks. As for support for Cameron Mathison there is an abudence of support for his character especially at soap events. Lines to meet him/autograph signings prove that he is insanely popular with fans. Not to mention that he has an entire different set of fans just for him being him and his other outside projects.

I agree, Skin.

No one knows whether the majority of soap viewers love or hate Ryan. Unless they are God and know what everyone is feeling when they tune in to the show at 1 o'clock?

Online reps a study of viewers, but that is neither here nor there since no one knows the absolutes.
