The beauty of the slow build is that it gives you a chance to get out of a story the viewers hate before you commit to a disastrous pairing or story.

I don't know if this constitutes an ideal slow build. Because two weeks ago everyone was b!tching about horrid pacing, now all of a sudden everybody realises how greatly structured this was.

Fat Lady has yet to sing.

If you are talking about the build up to Sudden Impact, I don't think it was well structured at all. That was the point of my original post. I think because of the original screw up in the pacing of the Sabrina/Victor story (which was done WAY too quickly) the best the show could do is cut their losses. But if they had done the introduction much more slowly, it would have been much better, imo. The audience never had time to connect to Sabrina as Victor's wife as things stand, so the emotional impact was minimized. If they had done this story right it would have taken at least a year, if not two.

the only ones that call Phyllis Woman of the Year or Mother Theresa are her bashers...her fans accept Phyllis just the way she is and we do not make excuses for why she does things...unlike Sharon fans who are now in full "I hate what the writers have done to pure innocent virginal perfect Sharon!" mode....

Phyllis has every right to lecture Jack, her ex-husband, her so called friend and business partner, what he is doing is effecting all of the 4 partners...he is doing what Jack always does, he is going after TGVN....and he fails to see what it is going to cost him...and his "wife" and her relationship with her "son's" Grandfather...remember TGVN is this great father figure Sharon has ALWAYS looked up to ( and stuck her tongue down his throat!!), Phyllis knows from personal experience that when it comes to TGVN, Smiling Jack Abbott knows NO Bounds and will step over anyone to justify his actions.

Funny how Phyllis gets grilled for being realistic about the whole thing, especially funny was the look on Jack's face when she said something about sending a photographer over to take pictures of the grieving family....if she only knew what Jack and will probably be using once TGVN starts in on him....

I love the fact that Phyllis "knows" Jack and Phyllis being disapointed in Jack bothers's Jack. Hell his own wife does not know Jack the way Phyllis does, because Phyllis knows how LOW Jack will go and I don't think he has gotten there yet!!!

But Phyllis's words ring kind of hollow to me because the reverse of what you said is true as well, and Jack knows the real Phyllis her husband does not. This is the woman who, while watching Jack and his family struggle over their business crumbling around them, kept her mouth shut about Victor's being behind the bribery scheme. And what was her reason? Because she wanted to be a success at the competition? And then, when they had the whole story over that orchid thing, Phyllis tried to rip the orchids off from Jabot, knowing that it might be the key to Jabot starting to bounce back from the losses they suffered at Victor's hands. So Phyllis comes off as a bit hypocritical when she chastises Jack for doing stuff along the same lines she did.

Sharon needs to worry about her own moral compass that has not worked since she was a toddler...what's that saying "pot meet kettle" "people who live in glass houses should not throw stones"....

And isn't Phyllis one of those "pot meet kettle" people as well? All four members of the Restless Style partnership fit that mold, if you ask me.

I was actually surprised that Phyllis was against what Jack did. I thought she'd be the ruthless one, while Sharon subjected Jack (and us) to another lecture. Instead we got one from Phyllis, which was sort of surreal. I'm actually glad that Sharon has accepted Jack for who he is and isn't bothering to even believe his empty promises. I'm hoping those two stay together another year or two and have a child together, so that the Abbott/Newman rivalry continues into the next generation. Of course, Phyllis is right and Jack is about to bring the Black Knight down on his head, but Jack never learns on that front. I think Sharon knows that just as well as Phyllis, but Sharon has decided to be on Jack's side come what may.

You all know where all of this is headed with Nikki right?

I think her downward spiral is gonna lead to her battling alcoholism again. It's pretty realistic, since many recovering alcoholics who go through hard times end up relapsing.

Yeah, I can see that easily. It'll be some good stuff for MTS for sure.

I hope Paul and Nikki emerge from whatever comes next. If it's Victor and Nikki any time soon I'll be disappointed. That's one of the reasons I wish the Sabrina story had lasted much longer.

I really hope that they keep VI on the show now just to haunt Nikki. That nightmare was actually scary and I could see him being a great drinking buddy for her. Nikki needs to relapse!

^^^sounds like you have a dislike for Phyllis! which is fine with me, but I don't agree with your opinion. Phyllis is not "full of shi.t" she just tells it like it is and no holds barred...she is just a red haired version of your girl Dru...she is in your face and loyal to a fault, guess that is why MS and VR loved to work together!

Phyllis is the diamond on the show, mulit faceted and multi dimensional and Michelle Stafford does a kick ass job portraying her. Guess that is why so many people love her no matter what and so many people don't.

Phyllis hasn't been Phyllis since 2005, if you ask me. That whole relationship with Nick ruined her, and Lynn Marie Latham totally decimated the character.

Which is a shame, Phyllis used to be one hell of a complex character. She's supposed to be an anti-heroine, not the heroine who is an annoying bitch. They totally have her characterization wrong.

What I see now is not the real Phyllis, that character died a few years ago and it isn't coming back, and her dull ass paring with Nick isn't doing her any favours.

From sun up to sun down Phyllis is fulla shi.t.

Always has been. Always will be.

I co-sign this.

I think a big reason folks are tuning back in is that Gloria has been moved to the middle burner. She isn't on every damn day like she was for so long. While I love Judith Chapman, too much Gloria is not a good thing.

I see it totally differently, I don't understand why some fans want Phyllis to be the Phyllis of 1994??? who wants a soap opera character to never change???? Not me!!! She is more of a core character now then ever and she has been allowed to evolve instead of stagnanting like other characters have.

I think that finding true love with Nick was the best thing that ever happened to Phyllis, Nick fell in love with her knowing how ruthless Phyllis could be, and she had seen him at his worst. Phyllis has never known true love until she was with Nick. And Nick never knew unconditinal love and having a partner that puts him first and "gets" him like no one else has.

As for Nick dumming down Phyllis, I don't see it, I think Phyllis brought out the real Nick, JM did not shine in his role of Nick Newman until he was paired with "the Stafford" as he lovingly calls Michelle. He has said she was totally responsible for making Nick Newman sexy! Personally JM did nothing for me until he was paired with one of the best actresses in the soap opera world, and he sings her praises as she does his in just about every interview he does, as do the majority of the other actors she works with Michael G., Cristian LeBlance, Peter Bergman, Don Diamont and Daniel Goddard.

Phyllis proved that she knows Jack better then anyone and her disdain for his recent antics struck him in his black little heart.

Some character traits should always remain, people can change, but they also retain their core traits. At her core, Phyllis is a disturbed soul who has always felt like the outsider who feels like the world owes her something, so she fights to get it.

And Phyllis has been a very stagnant character over the past two years or so, IMO...

Phyllis is a classic Bill Bell anti-heroine, it's too bad that current regimes insist on painting her as a real heroine, when she is not.

Nick and Phyllis aren't one another's true loves. Phyllis has always been a screw up, and sooner or later, she's going to screw up this boring mess of a relationship she has with Nick. And Nick hass no idea who the real Phyllis is, he hasn't even begun to see who this woman really is.

I see it, ever since her and Nick became a legitimate couple, Phyllis has been nothing but the giggly cheerleader who smiles and says "oh, OK!" Nick and Phyllis bring one another down, and they're two mismatched characters. Phyllis needs a REAL MAN to interact with, Nick is and will always be a trust fund baby who is a wuss that lacks anything resembling assertiveness. The REAL Phyllis is too strong, independent, fiery, and unstable for the laid back frat boy Nick is/ has become.

Personally, Josh Marrow never did anything for me and has yet to. Victoria was ALWAYS the more interesting Newman child, Heather Tom's Victoria that is...

Phyllis proved that she knows Jack better then anyone and her disdain for his recent antics struck him in his black little heart.

I guess sleeping with a grieving father, blackmailing people, being a home-wrecker, liar, cheater, and exhibiting psychotic behavior gives Phyllis a lot of room to pass judgement on other people...
