A way to view the P&G Classic soaps at AOL video...............

AOL is having major technical issues with the AW,EON,SFT and Texas videos not loading in their embedded players.

On the first day that they post the episodes, the correct URL(the one that I post at Yuku)comes up in the AOL player, but within a day or two another URL with RTMP shows up and it is a non working address.

For example, these are the URLs that come up in AOL's players and they are non active URLs...........

rtmp://flv.stream.aol.com/flash/aol/us/aolcomvideo/PandG/texas/texas_tx00273_220_700_dl.flv

rtmp://flv.stream.aol.com/flash/aol/us/aolcomvideo/PandG/anotherworld/anotherworld_aw04346_220_700_dl.flv

Using the FLV Player-S,which plays RTMP streams,is how I was able to figure out that those URLs are non functioning.

AOL must have an automated system that replaces the working URL with the alternate one,but they don't check to see if it is active.

Having said that,I recommend using the direct URLs that I have posted at the Yuku board.

The direct links that I post there should work for you,if you either install VLC media player or a codec for windows media player.

VLC Media player doesnt work on my computer. Usually if I catch the episode right after its posted and click on fullscreen immediately after the first commercial I can view the whole show without interruption. However this changed yesterday when I went to watch Another World Episode 4351, only the first act played in full screen then nothing. I hate AOL Video, they suck. If they were going to run these dont you think that they would make sure the frigging player worked correctly. Hulu just recently started showing Another World starting from where Soapnot left off in 1991 and the episodes play beautifully.

I want to take a moment to thank Chuck publicly for providing the links to the aol eps. I just discovered his site a couple of weeks ago and have already managed to d/l ever ep of Edge available (still gotta work on the rest, though. lol). I'm so hooked on EON right now it's not even funny. lol If you've got the latest version of RealPlayer, you can watch the flash videos with it and view full screen and the quality (while not perfectly pristine like the old HiQ vids) is surprisingly good.

Playing those vis via VCL is not the problem: Rather I see some person I don't like and want to skip 30 seconds... :D I can't do that with my VCL version although I cann fast-forward (but not rewind the file). Does it work with RealPlayer?

I second that shout-out to Chuck, BTW: I just briefly watched some classic Texas with the young Kin Shriner and it was very interesting starring Beverly McKinsey of course. ;)

VLC media player doesn't fast forward very well with FLV files, but I have been using KM Player and Media Player Classic which works much better with them.

With KM player, you can set it up to play the same files together(if you clicked on the URLs and saved them),which means that you can play back to back episodes all at once.

I am also recording these videos with my DVD recorder connected to my computer and posted instructions at the Yuku board on how to do that as well.......

This is a photo of the menu from my DVD recorder..........

    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.
