This news about The Doctors is exciting! I have always wanted the soaps on streaming and have said I'd pay if I could get it. Considering PGP already had soaps on AOL and Hulu, it amazes me they haven't done anything with their stuff. If they had a Soap Classics channel on Amazon, I'm sure people would pay $5 or whatever a month for access. I'll definitely be getting this and look forward to seeing the older episodes. I'm also hoping they eventually add all the episodes that have aired on RetroTV so I can finish where I left off.

Right now, the rerun cycle is in May 1979. In the coming weeks, we will see a bit of a cast exodus. Kathleen Turner, Dorothy Fielding, and Shawn Campbell all left around the same time (July/August 1979). Kim Zimmer became the third and final Nola. Dorothy Fielding's role of Sara Dancy Powers was not recast (or I should say there was not a third Sara). Billy skipped town and would not be seen again until fall 1980, when a newcomer named Alec Baldwin was cast in the part.

It's interesting to hear that. I was watching a few 1984 episodes of GL and I think one of her earlier episodes as Reva and she was soooooo different. I don't know what the hell happened. Justin Deas must have rubbed off on her around 1995/1996 because ... lord. Difference is kinda staggering. Random thought but do you notice how all the soaps just started having people yell and scream at each other all of the time?

I'm looking forward to seeing more of her work as Nola on The Doctors.

I noticed it on AMC the first time Megan McTavish was HW.  All of a sudden, people were just antagonistic toward each other.  I tend to blame it, though, on confrontational talk shows like "Ricki Lake" and "Jenny Jones" coming into vogue at that time.

Yeah, true. Same thing for Melrose Place, remember circa Season 4/5 (which is 1995-1997, when the daytime soaps started their decline), everyone just started hated each other and slept together? Lots of yelling and slapping and bed hopping, not saying it was Shakespeare before but it really just threw everything at the wall. It seemed to be 'the trend', which we have finally seemed to get past I suppose. But it took a long time. The daytime soaps all started to try and become Melrose Place and Reilly's DAYS and it never suited them.

LOL, that's fair.

You also have to remember for a lot of folks they don't know the DAYS of the 70s. I wish they would and I wish I could see it.

I do agree 100% DAYS lost it's direction but that started in the 80s, let's not pretend the plots were amazing, it was just the backdrop for showcasing a supercouple. They got *very* lucky. And they were smart to use Alice Horton like they did. I mean, did we *really* need Kayla or Kim as much as I enjoy them? We sure as hell didn't need Adrienne.

True.  However, the show retained its' incredible heart.  As silly as the plots often were, you, as the viewer, still were caught up in the emotion and suspense of it all.  Moreover, there was still some respect for history and for the characters' (and viewers') basic intelligence, which is more than I would ever say for how JER treated them, lol.

Yeah, I meant to say that. Despite the wacky stupid adventures and Bradys and Johnsons taking over, it still felt familiar, the sets, and the heart, etc. Not explaining it well but I know what you mean, it still felt like "DAYS" just ... 80sfied LOL. They also greatly lucked out at the time that the actors were mostly good, and that was when soaps actually knew how to introduce a character and test them around the canvas.

I've always agreed JER dumbs down the canvas to insanely stupid levels. I hate it. But at least, even if it was trash, he could write an actual storyline and meander it out and at least he made you understand the character's motivations, as dumb as they were. He had bibles. He learned from some of the best. He just went ... way too wacky and then seemingly lost his mind. I think had Sheri stuck around in the Reilly era and balanced him a bit ... I guess I saw the potential Reilly could have had but ... hard pass on a lot of what he did. But I can appreciate some things, I guess. And honestly, any of it's worst is better than what we're getting now. But I couldn't sit through stupidity running amuck again. No thanks. Ron's already getting there.

    • Oh good, so I don't have to wait too long haha. I'm glad she cares about seeing Bill graduate. I'm guessing I'm in for a bumpy ride between Bill and Matt, if he's going to be his caretaker? Who else could it be, maybe Josh?

    • Maeve makes a few sporadic appearances, but returns full-time the next spring/summer. She's back in time to see Bill and Michelle graduate, although she skulks around town and wasn't going to tell anyone she was alive. She comes back wearing this HUGE hat---which was a throwback to the old Vanesaa. lol.
    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
