I heard about the proposed Fisher storyline. If anything, if Fisher would've died it should've been in Marilyn's arms instead. But I can see why it was vetoed either way.

Though it's sad the network is so hesitant about revisiting the past and is embracing solely the future. I mean I'm kind of surprised they never recast or brough back any of Irene's children or grandchildren. I guess I should be surprised that they brought on Leah's nephew from one of her brothers.

@DRW50 Oh I watch more often than not these days too and think the show is in pretty good shape. As pointed out in the other thread, they've really basically abandoned the history the past decade or so (outside of Alf's family) whereas Neighbours had really circled back to the history in recent times. Once Sally was gone, the appearances from people like Pippa and Sally's siblings stopped and that whole side of the show faded away.

Neighbours really had a lot of older characters back towards the end and active connections that allowed them to bring back characters like Scott, Charlene, Mike, Shane, Izzy, etc. Home & Away is basically down to Alf, Irene, Marilyn, and I guess Roo and Leah and they haven't done the best job of keeping the connections to past characters active. I guess that comes down to Neighbours having a lot of families whereas Home & Away doesn't. All those connections on Neighbours allowed for such an emotional episode and I'm just not share Home & Away could reach that again outside of the few people mentioned. I'm sure they'd go for people like Sally, Pippa, Don, Colleen, Ailsa, Bobby, and even people like Hayley, Brax, Gypsy, etc though when it ends. The people that would really serve a nostalgic punch, like you said, would be so far removed from the current show outside of Alf, Irene, and Marilyn that it would be kind of jarring even if done nice. The show that Ailsa, Don, and Sally existed just feels so far removed from the current show, at least to me.

UGH. Fisher was never one of my favorite characters, but who wants to see a grim, hopeless story end like that? No thank you.

Are any of Pippa's kids in Summer Bay any more? (Like Emmerdale, I have not had access to H&A in many years, so haven't watched it in a long time.)

I think the only character I would know nowadays is Alf Stewart.

It's a shame they never bring back these  legends. I know some still fans still talk about Pippa today.

Marilyn has a new story that just started, about a long lost child I guess, possibly. Roo had a decent story earlier this year about giving her mother a kidney. There was a strong scene in a therapy session where she finally vented about all the damage her mother faking her death did to her, including causing her to give her child up for adoption. If I ever find it I'll clip it and post it. A lot of fans do not like this retcon about Alf's wife not actually being dead, which I understand.

The show didn't really do anything for the passing of Cornelia Frances, which is a shame. Alf did mention Morag yesterday, for the first time in a long time, so it's good timing to read your comment.

Many soaps have completely abandoned their initial identies, and changed their styles, tone and content dramatically. I wonder how many fans of the "original" Home and Away still watch today's incarnation. I'm curious if Pippa would even fit in anymore.

It's a shame TPTB didn't really do anything to commemorate Morag after Cornelia Frances passed away.  When Alf mentioned her yesterday, did it sound like Morag was dead?

In general, I dislike back-from-the-dead stories. Not to make a groan-inducing pun, but this sort of story has been done to death on soaps, with Days of our Lives being the worst offender. But at least Roo's reaction was believable. IRF, anyone would be hurt and furious if their mother had faked her death.

Well, that doesn't give the audience any confirmation, one way the other.

When beloved actors pass away IRL, soaps often leave the fate of their characters vague (Bert--for a year-- on TGL, Jessie on GH, Sally on B&B, etc.)  Do viewers prefer to imagine that their favorite characters are "still out there, somewhere"? Or would they rather TPTB acknowledge the actors'/characters' demise?

If a performer is too beloved to be replaced, I personally want to see closure for the character and a tribute to the actor, even if that means the character has to be acknowledged as deceased.

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
