Brief glimpse of Emmerdale 1989. This is uploaded by the director of the episode. The full episode doesn't seem to be around on his channel, sadly.

Sooo Caleb wants Joe Dead! If they kill off Joe who carried This sheet Show during his last stint with Graham and Kim I really quit for good. It’s alread a struggle since Meena‘s ending and Tom and belle’s dragged out story.

This show is so image.gif and predictable....

It's funny how even when it's so much more fast-paced now and more is happening than in the old days the show was much more gripping back then. During my re-watch of the oldest episodes there was one where the main plotline was that, and I kid you not, Joe and Matt accidentally broke Annie's best teapot, and yet that episode was still more watchable than the current show.

The Grossgill Fire. A pivotal moment in the breakdown of Matt and Dolly's marriage.

I think there was an episode of it around at one point but I can't remember. Another reminder of Emmerdale Farm having plenty of drama.

Did you get the November 1988 episode?

Yes I did. Thank you very much.

It's funny, Emmerdale Farm had a reputation here as the show where nothing ever happened, but that was obviously not the case. Dramatic things did happen, but not every single week, which is why, when they did happen, the impact was that much bigger. Now it's just another plot point....

It was disappointing to see even the director in the clip I found with Donald falling in the church saying nothing happened. In so many episodes I've watched, especially from the '70s, lots of stuff goes on.

I feel so disconnected from the show these days, to the point where I can't even work up a reaction over a Sugden being brought in just to kill people, but I feel alive again when I watch the Farm era. Real people, real caring.

I can sort of see why people nowadays could find old episodes of Emmerdale Farm slow. They are. There are a lot of scenes where you just see someone walking through a field, or driving a tractor down a narrow country road. But for me those scenes work differently. They help me immerse myself into their world, they create an atmosphere and build the foundation you need for the more dramatic elements. It gives me the feeling that I'm watching actual people live their lives, which is something that the current show is completely unable to do. You care about Annie, Amos, Joe, Dolly and the rest and what they go through because they feel real. Matt breaking Annie's favourite teapot, grandad Sam winning a vegetable contest or Alison installing a freezer in the shop might sound uninteresting, but I'll take that over the increasingly outlandish stories of today's show anytime.

I wonder if Joe Tate's time on the show is coming to an end now that all his nefarious deeds are coming to light. I'm not particularly fond of the character, but I still resent him being thrown under the proverbial bus just so the Dingles (many of whom have done at least equally villainous things) can show off their usual hypocritical attitude.   <_<

John Sugden is another whose future seems uncertain, and again while I'm not a fan of the character, having a Sugden (albeit a retconned one) sacrificed on this show's altar dedicated to the Dingles is not a pleasant idea....

I Never believed for a second That Joes Return would be permanent lol

But I do Wonder why he decided to come back now? I mean None of his Former important characters are there anymore besides Kim. When we wanted him back he was over in the states and now where we didn’t Even asked for it anymore je returns. Weird

my vote goes to Eden (Belle)! She single handed carried that show on her back !!

Best family will probably be The Dingles!

I have to say 2024-2025 was a mixed bag on all of them soaps ! But if I had to say which one would be the best I would give it to Emmerdale for Belle/Tom’s storyarc. It went on for too long but at least was written properly compared to others. But I do think Corrie will win best soap for Mason’s storyline

Best storyline… I wish it would be Belle and tom but the abuse story from Hollyoaks will take that 100%

Is the rumor about Ryan Hawley returning true? I saw it on one of those clickbait-type FB groups in my algorithm.

I've heard this too, and that Danny Miller also responded, not thrilled about the embargo being broken. If he is apparently it's just a short-term return. I just hope he won't return to be killed.
