You can really feel the show's inconsistency if you watch the April 91 episode and then this one - months apart, yet the show feels extremely different tone (the Paul and Ava stuff is - well it's weird). Matt seems like a good character. It's too bad they didn't keep him around.

Sort of. DAYS also used to do some of those (there's a Kayla one on my Youtube channel). ABC did that talking-to-camera stuff for a few years. There's an unintentionally funny one for AMC with Hayley and Brian #1.

I always enjoy seeing the Kate/Ava relationship. It was such an old Agnes Nixon chestnut but it worked every time on every soap she was involved in.

I keep forgetting Ann was still on the show by this point.

I'd never seen any of the big Jeff/Trisha/Trucker stuff so it's nice to get to watch some. It's stunningly filmed, although so overly melodramatic...

Ava's sister Carly seems normal and more low key then Ava.  its a shame neither of Ava's sisters stayed long term...to serve as a contrast to Ava.

. By the fall, Tess was involved with Clay Alden, for which I could only hope they were planning on creating a quad with Buck and Gwyn. Nixon quickly cleaned house and reset the show to make 1994 a pretty strong year.

I started watching Loving pretty regularly in... 92 I think when they had the week-long AMC cross over (I wish some of that was online) involving chasing Carter Jones to Corinth (Hannah and Dinah Lee had earlier encountered him while staying in Pine Valley at Myrtle's).  There was some good stuff back then but yes, it was still suffering, as it mostly did, it seems, from too much turn around.

But I have to say, I loved most of Nixon's 1994 (probably her last long stint as HW, excluding her co-HW AMC stuff in 99-2000).  It had a lot of crazy Gothic stuff that Agnes likes to do--like Dante coming on with his "pet" who turned out to be Curtis in a cage, but mostly worked and she did good stuff with Angie.

It's a Christmas miracle a month late - another episode of Loving has popped up. And I think it may be Deborah's first episode, or close.

I can't get over how beautiful some of those sets are compared to a soap in recent years.

If anyone here hasn't watched the above episode yet, you should give it a try. It's a surprisingly tense, well-directed, well-acted episode, with a gruesome twist at the end, and some wonderful scenes between the two Clays.

And if you're into Richard Steinmetz, there's also a great ass shot.

Amazing! Which of the 80 writing teams in the early '90s did these '94 eps?
