I wonder how much the explosion of John Conboy in the early 80's and the hiring of H Wesley Kenney as EP had to do with Y&R's creative resurgence in the early 80's. If I'm not mistaken, weren't the Newman's and Abbott's first introduced during Kenney's EP stint? It's well known Bill Bell had a much better working relationship with Kenney than he did with Conboy. Needless to say, there was no love lost between Bell and Conboy when Conboy left to create what became Capitol.

This is so cool to hear about this, because for me, Y&R is about the Abbotts, Newmans, Williams etc and all the 80s stuff. I don't recall the Brooks and Fosters (apart from Jill) and barely remember Brenda Dickson's tenure. Thank you for coloring on some of that background.

I also didn't realize that Jack Smith was dealing with a terminally ill son at the end of his last stint. Poor guy. Despite all the muck thrown his way, I still rate him as a consistent and good HW for Y&R. Mind you, I rate Kay Alden, too. It's LML who was the Guza.

Yes the uber fierce Jaime Lyn Bauer played Lorie Brooks. It's such a shame Bill Bell couldn't have brought her back before he left. From what I hear, Kay Alden just didn't understand Lorie when she returned in 2002. Strange considering Kay wrote most of the Lorie years.
