Its been over 10 years since the soap ended its run on ABC and 8 years since Soapnet became a network and its still nowhere to be seen? Why the hell havent they added it to the lineup? It would have been a great way for cross promotion. With Angie and Frankie back on AMC as well as Darnell Williams as Jesse, they could advertise the characters/actors previous time on The City. They also have other actors who were on the show. I can just imagine a promo saying "If you love Laura Wright as Carly on GH, watch her weekdays as Ally on The City" Ditto for OLTL's Catherine Hickland as Tess or GH's Jane Elliot as Tracy. I dont know, it makes sense to me especially since ABC already owns the rights to the soap

I agree! That's an interesting soap novelty that unfortunately never really caught on but could have in my opinion. I hope to see it on Soap Net soon.

closer to 2 and a half years which is more than enough time to have at least one healthy run on Soapnet. Not to mention that they can even go back to Loving or air it before teh The City and you have well over a decades worth of soap. SN is littered with recent teen dramas which have little place on the network. You would think they'd have more cancelled ABC soaps on it

Two and a half? Not possible. It started after the OJ trial ended in the fall of 1995, and Port Charles was on in its place by June of 1997. It didn't even make a two year mark.

yeha you are right but still 1 and a half years is alot of episodes and enough for at least one run on SN. Look at how many times they've been reairing the last 3 years of PC? Once that ends, they just keep going right back to the beginning of the arcs. I dont see The City's length being something that would keep them from airing it. If anything that would make it that much more attractive since the network is always changing its schedule. They could take about 7-8 months to air the entire series with back to back episodes and easily switch it out for something else

I find it interesting that soaps today are mimicking The City's style. The City had more location shoots, special lenses for the cameras to make it look more like film, and lots of close-up shots. Today, we get AMC with the "soft lens" look and Guiding Light attempting to "revolutionize" soap opera storytelling by creating 4-wall sets and having hand held cameras. To me, it's pretty much the same as The City 13 years ago, and we all know what happened to The City.

Well, one cannot argue that MELROSE PLACE is not a "real" soap opera, but I whole-heartedly agree that SoapNet should be about classic daytime and primetime soaps.

I'd love to get to see THE CITY.

Well, I do think that Melrose Place and 90210 are definitely soap operas.... The OC is one too, but really only the first dozen or so episodes were any good. Anyway, I would take Melrose Place or 90210 over The City any day of the week. There's a reason it was canceled so quickly.

I would love to see The City on Soapnet as well as Another World (what they can air). I would so much prefer it than One Tree Hill, which is still on, and the OC which just ended. I like seeing 90210 and Melrose because they were on so long ago. What about Ryan's Hope and Loving? Much better than the others.

I would sell my right arm to watch the Loving murders over again.

And yes, I know that's EandB. I still loved them.

As for the City, I was a fan. One of the three, I believe. LOL I'd love to watch it over again.

Hey! I grew up on Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place, so why are you hating? I'm just kidding with you, ATS! I was a Loving viewer too, so after I saw The City, I wasn't impressed with it at all. But then again, I'm a Guiding Light viewer too and they're doing the shaky wobbly camera things, so why not watch The City on SoapNet?

Honestly, I don't dig SoapNet unless I want to watch Beverly Hills 90210 or Melrose Place. It's nice to watch DAYS once in awhile, but that's all that I really watch on SoapNet. If I averaged my use of SoapNet per year, then it would probably be around 16. It's not a necessity, but then again, it's something else to flip on when nothing else seems interesting. JMO
