Hm. I could be wrong about that, but I always thought Bush liked being referred to as "W." Made him seem folksy. Hm.

As I said in my previous post, though, I would not have ever had issue with wost calling him Barry, had he not been the only one doing it. I guess once someone opens the floodgates...the slippery slope if you will. ;)

Of course for that matter, maybe wost doesn't want to be wost, and I need to be typing wostwebmaster or WWM? :P

Actually, you can call me John Sidney.

No, I wish I could change the name on here... Yo, Chandler... a little help? I wish I could change it to GoldenDogs. :D

But feel free to just call me Brian. B)

I honestly don't know that. I know that you can't legislate to parents, other than mandating school attendance. That's a problem. When there's nothing else that can be realistically fixed, what do you do.

Well, there's a lot you CAN do. However, no one ever wants to discuss it. They want to belly ache, and then they want a quick fix. THe issue is that everyone thinks they can legislate what goes on in a classroom because everyone has been to school. But you don't see me telling a doctor how to do his job, because I've been in surgery before. Or telling the CEO of the bank how to run his business, because I have a checking account there. That would be absurd, right?

Casey, you are offended about something every single day. Nobody cares.

On the ads: As far as the sex ed crap, it was a deliberately misleading ad. The Palin in a swimsuit internet crap is deliberately misleading. One wrong does not justify another. I do think there is a difference between a presidential campaign willingly and knowingly paying for a misleading ad (and I think it is outright lying) and internet psychos. Although I will grant you in this environment that internet rumors tend to take on reality.

I also agree with those folks who talk about teachers and teachers being blamed. First I really do not think this country's education is a bad as people say. I also think that the overwhelming majority of teachers are pretty damn good and very dedicated. They don't get paid squat and I personally feel pretty good about my public education. All of you seem pretty bright. I think teachers do a pretty good job. All the comparative analysis of other countries are as misleading as McCain's ads B) . It's really easy to have great math scholars when you channel all the kids who are not naturally gifted into technical school. Teachers in America give full attention to all kids.

Bush did like being referred to as W and in fact his re-election sticker was a W.

Oh. One thing.

You are more than welcomed to post any articles you like in this thread, seeing as the ones I post are biased.

Thanks. :)

I do not follow Roman's links, as most of them have linked to biased sources; on occasion, I have followed one when I've noticed the source or he/she has been kind enough to note the source. I've also seen some of the last few, because they seem to be more impartial.

Roman, please note the words underlined and in bold above. You have the right to post the links you think pertinent, just as I have the right to scroll on by. You don't have to stop; in fact you should probably continue; as inevitably, someone follows your links and we enter some great discussion. I wish I could find some sources I could trust, but I've not bothered either. We all contribute to the thread in ways we choose and should continue to do so.

It looks like the polls are all over the place. I think some of them must be using registered voters and others likely voters. I think the Rs are trying to say that Florida is already in McCain's pocket to dis-engage the Ds in that state. The only survey saying its a R state is Rove's.

It was a joke. Lighten up..

Well, he's doing his job. Trying to surpress Democratric turnout by saying it is in McCain's column. But every other poll show it to be even.

We'll find out November 4th. I saw Howard Fineman say that Florida will come down to Election Day.

What are you basing this argument on? What evidence do you have that this is the case?

Are the Democrats trying to "dis-engage" Republicans in the states that they have the lead? CA, NY, PA...etc...Of course not...

The only survey saying its a R state is Rove's.

Definitely not true...

Here are all of the polls for FL in September.

I no longer read what is posted by certain posters but when someone quotes a poster in his/her response, I do get to see that. As a result I saw two things last night that fall under the things that make you go hmmmmm category.

The gist of one was that Barack Obama's mother wanted him to be associated with Islam since she gave him the middle name Hussein (this in reference to the whole Barry H. thing and the impression that the H. was being used to drum up the whole Hussein is a Muslim terrorist fear). So hmmmmmm his mother knew over four decades ago that Islam was going to be seeing as akin to terrorism by some people in USA......I don't think so. She may have wanted him to have an Islamic name but what does that have to do with anything since she named him decades ago? Nothing....exactly (I'm being my own amen chorus).

The other was that Barry H. wasn't the worst thing he could be called because look at all the horrible things Palin has been called. This little tit for tat logic is why the quality of debates go down. What makes it even faultier is Barack Obama is not the one saying all of those horrible things about Palin so it's the wrong tit for tat.

In my own ridiculous sense of logic I would think that saying Barry H. isn't the worst thing he can be called because obviously he's been called a lot worse would make a whole lot more sense. Uh maybe I should have paid more attention in school.

But back to victimized Palin who is quite clearly the only one suffering discrimination in this campaign (cough cough waffles)...please let me know when her defenders have gotten those little sexist action figures of her banned so that I can start to take their charges of sexism seriously.....see it was sexist of Tina Fey to spoof her but it wasn't sexist of that Fox News contributor to refer to her tits and other body part. America, America.....

Thanks for your subtlety..How very indirect and priggish of you...This is in reference to a post that I made, if anyone is wondering who Wales has blocked out...

How many more times are you going to reference that you no longer read my posts? Does this make you somehow above petty debate? It would show more esteem on your part if you addressed my posts directly instead of the back-handed manner that you have adopted.

I said that his mother associated him to Islam far before Republicans did. Now it seems to be the fault of Republicans that his middle name is of Muslim origin. Although his name can easily be used in a negative connotation, no one can deny the fact, that it is his name..

I also made note of the fact that he is the only Presidential candidate in history that has a name that is politically-incorrect to use..

Obama supporters embrace every aspect of the man, except his name...Republicans are chastised for repeating his birth name. It's just silly.

The more that I learn about Sarah Palin, the more scared I get.

First though, I am scared of McCain. What was he thinking choosing her as his running mate. To me, that shows a considerable lack of judgement and lack of leadership. To me, it looks like he is catering to women, the younger vote and the largest lobbiest group in America, the NRA. It makes me think I better get my burkah out (I really have one, its gorgeous and light blue with seed pearls and the sewing on it is exquisite.)

I will fight to the death for equal rights for everyone. I am proud that I was born exactly one year after Roe v Wade was decided, a turning point for all women. You don't have to believe in it, but it paved the way for more choices that women never had.

I believe in free speech for everyone. I feel that if the McCain and Palin ticket win, life will look eerily like Margaret Atwood's book the Handmaids Tale. I sure as hell don't want to live my life that way.

I believe in the right to bear arms. But really, who outside of themilitary need semi automatic weapons??? And this ticket has a card carrying NRA member in it. I should breathe a little sigh of belief because Michael Moore does too, but I don't want my neighborhood to become filled with these guns. Guns should be used for hunting animals, not people.

And what if the unthinkable happens and McCain passes which I would hope and pray he wouldn't (I wouldn't wish that on anyone) and Palin is our President? Let's see, based on past behaviors, any woman who is sexually assaulted will have to pay for their rape kit. Which is one of the most horrific and unthinkable things to happen to either a man or woman and now we have to pay for it? What about people with no insurance. They won't come forward and its not a far stretch to believe that the amount of rapes will increase.

Abuse of power. Better pray that you never anger her or her family because you will get fired. Even if you don't do anything. Sex education? No we better leave that to the parents. What a great role model she is since her 17 year old daughter is pregnant. I know that almost every kid does this but if you put yourself into a leadership position and want to break the glass ceiling you better have a spotless reputation. It's unfair but true, you will get scrutinized. Ask Bill Clinton (Gennifer Flowers, Monica Lewinsky) and John Edwards.

Mayor of a small town that has had two homicides in 13 years. So what happens if North Korea or Al Queda or Syria attack us. Her finger is on nuclear weapons. Take a moment to ponder that. The candidate that stated that her forign policy knowledge stems from the fact that she can see Russia from her house would have the code to the bombs. Going from balancing a budget in a relatively small populated state to governing the superpower of the world. This is the scariest thing of all.

John McCain has alligned himself with people who suggested Sarah Palin to him. These same people will be his advisors. BTW, I would really check out some of them because their hands are a little dirty. Barack Obama has surronded himself with people who are doing a great job in advising him. Plus Joe Biden is a strong vice Presidential candiadate. Sarah Palin, she is a disgrace to women
