I think she did benefit from some GOP crossovers in states where that is allowed but I don't think that it's accurate to say that a lot of her votes came from that.

I don't think either candidate received 18 million votes. I think the figure was rounded up because it makes more sense to say that than to say nearly but that's besides the point. The fact is that she's able to make that claim because she stayed in the race longer than she should have. I don't have an issue with her exercising her right to do that but the fact remains that it did cost the party in many ways but a good deal of that should end tonight with whatever they do regarding the roll call. Whoever wants to straggle in their party or insist on nobody but her after that won't have as loud of a chorus any more.

Biden is a better choice for running mate for Obama than she is. He didn't cross the line in his attacks on Obama. She crossed the line when she virtually issued an endorsement of McCain (which McCain should run into the ground) and an indictment of Obama. Romney and McCain's other opponents attacked him as well but they didn't sell him out which is smart party politics.

What a great speech by Hillary last night. How gracious is she? That was a unite the party speech if I ever heard one and I am interested to see if Bill continues that theme tonight. Hillary proved with that speech last night that she has the best interests of the country and her party at heart. I love that woman so much and I really hope she does have some kind of role in a potential Obama administration. She is worthy of it if you ask me. Not that she is trying to score borwnie points, I don't see it as that, its just she is an asset Obama can't afford to turn away.

Mark Warner totally BOMBED as key-Note speaker and that guy from Montana is the new Obama!

I also think we'll being seeing the Youngest Clintion running for office soon or taking a role in an Obama White House.

Clinton frees delegates, Obama roll call next

By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer 19 minutes ago

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton released her remaining convention delegates on Wednesday as Democrats were poised to formally deliver the party's presidential nomination to Barack Obama, making him the first black nominee of a major party.

As many in the room yelled, "No," Clinton said that, while she was releasing the delegates she had won in the primaries, "I am not telling you what to do. You've come here from so many different places having made this journey and feeling in your heart what is right for you to do."

Suspense still remained over the voting process — and whether and when a planned roll-call vote would be cut off to give Obama the nomination by acclamation.

Obama planned a mid-afternoon arrival in the convention city after campaigning in Montana.

Meanwhile, former President Clinton, who was a prime-time Wednesday headliner along with Obama running mate Joe Biden, planned to make a forceful endorsement of the man who forced his wife out of the race and to make the case that Obama is ready to confront any domestic, international or national security challenge, said an aide.

Bill Clinton will say in a roughly eight-minute speech that only a Democrat in the White House can "restore America's standing to what it was eight years ago," said the aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to pre-empt the former president's speech.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, presiding officer of the Democratic National Convention, predicted the roll-call voting after the names of both Obama and Clinton were put in nomination would go "very smoothly."

"Are you ready for victory? Then you must be ready for unity. That is the only way we are going to win and have this victory," she told Iowa's convention delegates.

Many details remained unknown, however, including how many states would vote before somebody — probably Clinton herself — asked the delegates to give the nomination to Obama by acclamation.

Clinton won 18 million votes in primary-season contests but failed to earn her party's nomination.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who had been a Clinton supporter, suggested in an interview with The Associated Press that some delegates would vote for Clinton no matter what she said, and that any motion to move to an unanimous convention ballot would draw "a few no's."

Obama will give his acceptance speech on Thursday to as many as 75,000 people at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium.

Then, on Friday, Obama, his wife Michelle and running mate Joe Biden and his wife Jill will embark on a three-day bus tour of battleground states Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.

Representatives of the Clinton and Obama teams struck a deal setting ground rules for the roll call vote that will hand the nomination to Obama but will also allow Clinton supporters to express their support for her.

Advisers to Clinton and Obama sent a joint letter to state delegation chairs instructing them to distribute vote tally sheets to delegates Wednesday and return them before the vote got under way.

The letter, first obtained Tuesday night by The Associated Press, said Clinton would have one nominating speech and two seconding speeches, followed by Obama's nominating speech and three seconding speeches — totaling no more than 15 minutes for each candidate. Then the roll call would begin, said the letter signed by Obama senior adviser Jeff Berman, Clinton senior adviser Craig Smith and convention secretary Alice Germond.

Kathleen Krehbiel, an Iowa delegate who had supported Clinton, credited the New York senator's convention speech Tuesday night for finally persuading her to cross the line and vote for Obama.

"My horse is out of the race. I'm getting out to work for Obama," Krehbiel said. But, she added, "I think there are a few delegates who need to vote for Hillary to reach that point of closure."

In a sign of unity, Obama adviser Berman and Clinton adviser Smith told delegates on Wednesday that they had been working out of the same office all week to ensure a smooth convention.

"The story is that we are working as a team," Berman said.

Anticipating Wednesday night's focus on national security at the convention, Republican John McCain contended in a new TV ad that Obama showed he was "dangerously unprepared" for the White House when he described Iran as a "tiny" nation that didn't pose a serious threat.

"Iran. Radical Islamic government. Known sponsors of terrorism. Developing nuclear capabilities to 'generate power' but threatening to eliminate Israel," says the ad, which was being run in key states. "Terrorism, destroying Israel — those aren't 'serious threats'"?

Missing from the ad was the context of Obama's remarks last May in which he compared Iran and other adversarial governments to the superpower Soviet Union. "They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us," he said in arguing for talks with Iran. "You know, Iran, they spend one-100th of what we spend on the military. If Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance."

-------

Typical Republican tactic. I'm sure McCain would be mad if the Obama campaign took comments he said out of context....<_<

Hillary's speech was awesome and I'm glad she was there to ask for acclamation tonight. Awesome. If any of her supporters now vote for McCain instead of Obama, then they ARE fools!

Great posts. This one and your long post.

Casey your posts about Hillary just show how much you hate her. You saying that her speech was just about Hillary is the biggest load of manure I've heard since John McCain's last tv ad. LMFAO!

Jay, love your signature about Marcie on ONE LIFE. I agree wholeheartedly. I wish ONE LIFE would kill the irritating shrew off before she adopts Starr's baby.

Hillary and bill did a great job, kudos to them for being the bigger person. An I'm so sick of people saying that if obama loses it will somehow be hillary's fault, hillary has gone far and beyond anyone that has taken second place in a presidential nominee election. I still don't get how all of these news commentators can say the clintons hate obama (though it could be true), they aren't close friends with them so how would they know??? I think the clintons saved their legacy and I hope hillary can do big things in the future.

    • That'a an interesting comparison, and might be a parallel.  But i also know too little about sports  to really comment on it's accuracy.  It might have something to do with a "closed" system, and the consuming nature of producing or writing a daytime drama and coaching.  Both in football and daytime, those factors make it hard for new talent to break into the system.  And even a very talented coach or daytime writer or executive producer can only do one team (or one show) at a time, limiting that person's impact on the entire system.
    • Despite most of John’s family not being in this episode, I like that the ripple effects of his death are still being felt across Salem.  Welcome back, Jack and Jennifer!  I really enjoyed their scenes with Julie. Little family moments like that on soaps are always a good thing. And I agree, Julie. As great as it is to see everybody, I wish it was for a better occasion too.  I’m glad that we finally got Tate’s POV regarding John, though his scene with Cat did seem a little random. But I love that Holly rushed to the apartment to comfort him after she found out about John. Despite everything and despite the chemistry that they have with other characters, I like the two of them together. Btw, is Cat looking so closely at the pictures of John and Sami going to mean something in the future? Her date with Chad seemed a little unnecessary though.  I also do like the idea of Ari and Holly being friends, mostly because of the mess that it could lead to with Doug III. Tying that mess together with Tate, Sophia, the baby and the guy stalking Doug III could all be pretty good. And yeah, we really should’ve seen Ari talking to Will about John. Hopefully, they have scenes together coming up. And also, Doug III still needs someone much better to confide in about his problems  Speaking of that someone, we’re really lucky that Ron was sent packing before John’s death was written because y’all know that if Ron was writing it, Leo would’ve been front and center in all of this, and comforting his “bestie” Marlena

His scenes with Jack were unnecessary too. Honestly, Jack should be beating the holy hell out of him for what he did to Gwen.  And, I’m really interested in the mystery of who Gabi heard EJ arguing with the night he was shot. I don’t think it was Johnny.
    • Remember when we used to talk about homoerotic subtext on GH? Like this Bromance? Sonny & Jason! I remain somewhat amazed that ABC used it as a promo https://www.instagram.com/p/DH3fKzjJyy4/
    • To be honest, moving Murder, She Wrote to Thursdays probably did seem like a good attempt at counterprogramming (they did the same thing with some success with Diagnosis: Murder the next season). They had hoped it would appeal to a different audience to the Friends juggernaut and wouldn't crash in the way it did. They also programmed Mary Tyler Moore's new show after it, so they clearly went with a "vibe" for the evening. With that said, I think MSW just have that end of the weekend vibe. Something you'd cosy up on Sunday evening while preparing for a new dreaded week.

    • I recall someone suggesting that football coaches have the same kind of situation where people who are clearly NOT good at the job get rehired over & over. I don't begin to know enough about that sport to evaluate this as a truth or not. But, I do hate how much damage it has accounted for in soaps.
    • Today’s episode was the first time Sasha’s been interesting since the one-night stand with Michael.
    • She had two Hannah Swensen movies and a Christmas movie released since this was recorded in September (?). So yeah, I'd assume Alison was just booked and busy when these episodes were recorded sadly.
    • But why is everybody telling the attempted murderer that they have evidence of her attempting to murder someone lol is Leslie gonna target Andre or Shanice now?  I did kinda feel bad for Hayley though. It makes me think something may happen as a result of her realizing that Dani is always going to be a part of her and Bill’s lives
