June 4, 200817 yr Member And this is what does leave a bitter taste in my mouth, because I'm sure that a lot of these people celebrating Obama's victory were positively livid when George W. sailed into office in spite of not winning the poplular vote. It's funny how opinions on such matters change when the candidate in question is your personal choice. I understand.....however we elect our Democratic Nominee on delegates....not the popular vote. That is the rules of the party. I am one of those who don't put any stock in popular vote since the nomination is based on delegates. Even if I cared about popular vote, the math on that and what is and isn't included is too fuzzy. Landslide works for me considering she was the inevitable nominee. The fact that she's not that far behind to me is like a team winning a basketball game in the second or third quarter but because the game has to be played out, the losing team gets enough points to make the game look close. I would disagree with landslide...I would say big upset.

I would disagree with landslide...I would say big upset. Thank you. "Big upset" is much more accurate than landslide. And I'm not denying what you and Wales are saying ... we elect based on delegates, not popular vote. I think it's a flawed system, but it's the one we have. What I am pointing out is the fact that there was an uproar when George W. Bush went into office the first time by winning the electoral college and not the popular vote, and I think most people on here probably remember that. There were even long debates and discussions on CNN, MSNBC, etc. about how the electoral college needed to be abolished.
June 4, 200817 yr Member I would disagree with landslide...I would say big upset. In my initial response I said it was a huge upset. I hope Obama finds a good running mate who he can trust and that will play team ball.
June 4, 200817 yr Member CNN projects that Obama wins Montana. Once again.......nice bookend. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#MT Not sure. Hopefully not at Ford's Theater And one of their best ones! That Ford's Theater reference was in poor taste. Reall. It was.
June 4, 200817 yr Member The entire PV argument is flawed because it relies on not counting caucuses. It's a nominating system, caucuses count and their votes get awarded. Parties and members should get to pick their nominees, not independents and members of the other party. I admit, I think the system may have picked better nominees prior to primaries. You know history was made tonight. It's nice that the United States has finally crossed that bridge. I don't think Hillary gave a very good speech, and I was hoping for more from her. I really don't think she had to concede though. However, I continue to blame that on her advisors. I really do wish she had used her own people rather than Bill's. Had she not taken the nomination for granted going into Super Tuesday, tonight might have made history for her rather than Obama.
June 4, 200817 yr Member Oh lighten up. It was a joke. I would not suggest anyone go there to watch a play...unless it is George W. Bush Come on now....that's uncalled for.
June 4, 200817 yr Member Oh lighten up. It was a joke. I would not suggest anyone go there to watch a play...unless it is George W. Bush Can you just say it was in poor taste and we can move on instead of telling me to lighten up? Because if I had said that about HRC...... Could I tell you to lighetn up? Not to suggest Scarecrow go there....it would serve him well to be assassinated. After all, he is responsible for murdering people in Iraq so he deserves to die *Puts on Mods hat* Listen. No matter how many of us feel about GWB.......there and nmany on this board who like andfollow him, and to wish his murder is in really poor taste. let's not ruin agreat night with this stuff.

I said huge upset but I played along since you mentioned that it wasn't a landslide. If I had complained back then I would probably complain today. I went along with the electoral college thing and I go along with the delegate thing. Whatever the established rules are, whether I agree with them or not, I try to go along. There are too many different figures that I've seen on the popular vote for me to take notice of it. People voted in caucuses and their votes are not counted in the popular vote. I can't focus on something that is that fuzzy and not truly representative of the total vote.
June 4, 200817 yr Member I will agree as well, even if it was a joke, the Fords Theatre reference was in poor taste, and as much as many of us loathe GWB, wishing his murder is not something that should be discussed in a public forum that includes people who support his views. Get back on topic please.
June 4, 200817 yr Member a public forum that includes people who support his views. I don't know of any who do support his views

Because, while I agree with what many are saying, I remember clearly the uproar over George W., and my concern is simply that people not be hypocritical. Like, it makes me queasy to think of people who were up in arms over the popular vote being denied at that time not caring now, simply because they are Obama fans. And I think a lot of people feel that the electoral college is flawed and archaic, just as you think the popular vote is fuzzy and not truly representative. Because, really, to me, every vote should count ... and that should be the way of it. I might be unhappy tonight (miserable, in fact, LOL), but I am happy on behalf of the Obama supporters, because it really is big night for all of you.
