^^^ True. I have missed about a day and reading through the posts since my last visit is exhausting. I saw several things I wanted to respond to, but there are waaaay too many, so I will just post a few of my thoughts about recent discussions instead.

Firstly. when did someone say that Obama's full name was off limits? That's an exaggeration. I personally don't really care if you post his full name or not. It's public record, for cryin out loud. I think the point was that the opposition is using the fact that his middle name is Hussein to railroad him. And it's another example of politics by fear typically used by the opposition when there is nothing else they can attack. As someone else said, he was given that name over 40 years ago by his parents. Even if his father is of the Muslim faith, how does that play into this election? Someone needs to explain that one to me because I don't get it.

Secondly, the fact that someone brought up yet again Obama's church and the Reverend Wright reeks of hypocrisy (surprise surprise). When they are claiming their candidate's religious beliefs are "off limits".

Lastly, I do feel that for the most part, Obama supporters have been taken to task for not "proving" their candidate's position moreso than McCain supporters.

This is all JMHO of course and my impressions of the goings-on in this thread over the last day or so.

Large shifts towards Obama in the last couple of days. McCain's lead from the RNC are completely gone. We are back to where we were before the conventions.

I wonder what has caused the recent shift? My guess is the financial troubles on Wall Street...or maybe the perceived negativity from the McCain camp..

Casey. I admit I was wondering if you were gloating when you posted McCain's boost in the polls a couple weeks ago. Obviously you were not.

In the end....polls schmolls. I don't know if they mean anything at all, but thanks for posting this.

I like JB, but his big mouth is a big problem. What is this, like the 3rd time he's put his foot in his mouth? The DNC have to be going nuts on how they are going to control what comes outta his mouth.

Judging from those poll numbers -- I believe they were originally posted by Casey and referred to in your post -- it looks like McCain retained his convention bounce and Obama returned to his post-convention levels. Not much happened with McCain, but it looks like Obama bounced back from whatever happened immediately after the GOP convention. Obama had popped up to around 48 or 49 after the Dem convention and then dropped back down during the GOP. McCain popped up to 46, 47 during the GOP convention. It looks like both of them have retained their post convention bounce now. They are fighting over a smaller pool of undecideds IMO.

I don't think all these groups are surveying the same group of people either. I think some must be polling registered voters and the others likely voters.

    • I don't think she is. I think she just created some really boring characters and for some reason doesn't know what to do with them.  But let's say that she is being force to write these characters that she doesn't like or want to write for.......that's a really bad sign that the creator of the show is being told what to do from the very beginning.  With so many EPs, I was worried there could be too many cooks in the kitchen, too many people giving notes - all those EPs are representing companies who have a stake in the show.    Canada continues to be one episode ahead. Thursday's US episode is another lacklustre episode, even with Leslie in it.  We'll see if Friday or Monday's episode in Canada will be a repeat.
    • Like a lot of soaps, once relatives left, they kinda dropped off the face of the earth and out of conversations. I don't know why writers do that. If they just don't want to confuse viewers, or don't think it matters, or want the liberty kind of revise history to make their stories work. After Josh left in '84, he's barely mentioned. Even when Billy's railing against Kyle and refusing to accept him, it'd be the most natural thing in the world to say "Kyle's NOT by brother, JOSH is!" and I don't think he ever really says that.  The only writer I can recall who didn't do that is Doug Marland on ATWT.
    • IIRC, there is a line during this time period where Reva says something like Marah is her first-born child, which fans were not thrilled with.  Dylan makes a few appearances through the rest of the show (and a much later recast that isn't really worth talking about, with a face that is familiar to you). He will make one briefly during 1997, if you get that far.
    • Another great episode.  GH has been pretty good this year, loading up the chamber, because now there's many bullets to fire, and another one was fired today when Nina found out Michael is the father of Sasha's baby.  I hope this secret comes out at the hearing.  I've also liked the slow burn with Gio/Emma. There's just so many things to look forward to on this show now.  GH is finally back to being really good.
    • I'm all for it. Get them Nina!

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
