Members juppiter
haha, not to be an [!@#$%^&*], but I thought Y&R *did* trim the fat when Latham fired most of the Smith-era dialogue writers. But yeah, the team is too big, and I think that Y&R will act soon to keep the good ones. I have a feeling Latham just hired her friends and had more writers than she really needed. But just because you are a Friend of LML doesn't mean you're not a good writer. I actually admire Y&R for not throwing the baby out with the bathwater right away. Members Sylph
And I don't like these writing teams. Everytime I see an ampersand, I go . The only team I can think of right now that I adore to this day and follow religiously wherever they go is Elisa Zuritsky & Julie Rottenberg. Members DaytimeFan
MAB needs to swing the axe big time...the writing team is bloated. That being said, it's all probably linked to not wanting to waste a penny canceling contracts before they come due. Additionally, MAB has been out of the writing game for a while, she's probably having to have a good hard think about who she wants to bring aboard and who she wants to fire. For all we know she's getting along famously with the FOLML and will just keep things as they are...for Y&R's sake I hope not. So far I have liked the scripts James Gottesfeld and Cherie Bennet have written. Paula Cwikly too. And of course the Natalie Minardi, Saundra Weintraub and Eric Friewald & Linda Schreiber scripts. Those are 'classic' Y&R. I happened to despise the dialog during the LML era...I enjoyed the theatrical, melodramatic and a tad stilted dialog that was so common during Bill Bell and Kay Alden's runs. For example, when Victor dumped Diane in favour of staying 'married' to Nikki, Diane's reaction to Victor was... Diane: I was just kidding myself, what I thought was the most incredible affair...and now I don't even know if a moment of it was real. Don't touch me! Just keep your hands away from me...just go!...Damn you!...GOooo! [cue the tragic instrumental music as Victor walks away, followed by Diane screaming "No...NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO...OH GOD....OH....NO NO....OH...NO...OH!"] We never got a single scene like that during the LML era, it was just 'reliquary this' and 'sustainable building that' and so much PC BS that grew tiresome fast. Members MarkH
DaytimeFan wrote: Oh gosh, I don't know what to think of this. What a perfect quote. I love it (for the familiarity it brings me), and I hate it (because...my god...it really is kind of laughable). Y&R is not getting sued...DOOL and AMC are. So I am all in favor of this cautious approach they're taking...giving LML's writers a chance.
Administrator Toups Posted April 5, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted April 5, 2008 Did people like the transiton period between McTavish and B&E? Just wondering.
Members dragonflies
Hell yeah! Sure did Toups, it was some of the best writing the show had in a LONG time
Members dm.
It was certainly better than the entire B&J tenure.
Members Deb6_2000
Some of it was good and some of it was boring. The Ryannie wedding and Fusion stuff was boring. I liked the Adam and Charlotte story. I loved the Zen stuff. I loved the Zach and Adam corporate story which was just beginning. Is this sort of a hint of what might happen in the future? This might be my first post.

Members Deb6_2000
Tks, ZF! I have to say the dialogue was much better during the transition period. I sure hope it's hint!
Members LeClerc
The AMC transition stuff was sort of boring, but not damaging. They didn't do any harm to the show that I can think of. Maybe it would be more exciting if they (I assume Walsh and Beall) weren't transitional and were allowed to actually move things along.

Members LeClerc
I notice Michael J. Cinquemani's name is not on the daytime writer's solidarity pledge from the beginning of the strike. On a perhaps related note (and perhaps not) you'd think ABC would be a bit more subtle and wait a while before giving jobs to their strike writers no? Members Sylph
The deeply tragic thing about this AMC shake-up is that the team is now even worse than it was when Megan wrote the show. Only 2 good scriptwriters (Joanna Cohen and Kate Hall), with 1 addition that showed some potential in the past (Cinquemani, as Sinclair noted). These people are really show killers. Members RavenWhitney
I'm glad Tom Casiello, ooops, I mean "exwriter" clarified that Milstein and Kanelos weren't scabs...but clearly one doesn't expect us to believe that some of the writers popping up on other shows post strike are instances of happenstance?!!! Soap writers wrote these shows during the strike, either ficore or scab...that's the way it works.
