GL: Week of Dec 3rd

It's another week in Springfield, so come on in an discuss the good and the bad that is GL. It looks like Josh has come to his senses and decided not to have Edmund killed (thank God). ;) How I wish GL had a bigger budget so that characters like Blake could actually get a scene now and then. She and Edmund would be so hot, I think.

It looks like Will pushed James. I'm kind of intrigued that the show is going there. This plot is leaning towards a Good Son type theme (child sociopath), which I didn't think they'd have the guts to do.

Am I hallucinating or is GL so [!@#$%^&*] broke that they have the same little boy playing both James and Jude?!

Why the hell are Beth and Rick at the hotel? Where is the Bauer house? Why aren't they living there? I realize they try to put everyone in that damn hotel but there's no excuse.

I like Reva's personality in recent months more than I've ever liked her, and she has interesting chemistry with Bradley Cole, but I still hate him and everything he stands for.

Lillian. God, I hate Lillian. Always have. You know Justin Deas is screwed when the only option is Lillian.

Beth Ehlers is trying way too hard. I think it's hilarious that they have Harley reeling just at the cover of an MC Escher book.

I've always been torn about Lillian. She can be a simpering bitch on occasion and can act even more selfish than Holly (which says a lot considering how neurotic and self-centered Holly could be). Plus, she killed my Maureen.

On the other hand, I love Tina Sloan and if they are featuring her more, it's a good thing. Sloan has always been rather underrated IMO.

That's the thing about Justin Deas. He has chemistry with almost every actress they pair him with - the exception being Crystal Chappel IMO. I like him with Lillian or with Doris. Of course, the pairing with Doris would probably be a better story, cuz as it stands now Tina Sloan is only on like what, once a month? EW/DK are probably setting up a Buzz/Doris pairing from what I've seen happening lately. It does not seem as though they are that invested in Buzz/Lillian.

IA that Springfield does need a stable, older couple.

I haven't seen yesterday's show yet, but I'm wondering what happened to Alex. I haven't seen her lately. Was she on yesterday?

No, it was finding out about Lillian and Ed's affair. So I guess you could say it was "indirectly". If Lillian had never slept with Ed, she probably wouldn't have been out driving when she was killed.

From soapcentral's bio for Maureen -

PS - I don't hold Lillian responsible for Maureen's death, I was just explaining how someone might think that way.

I admit that I haven't watched GL much at all this week. The episodes are still on the DVR, but I haven't felt an urge to sit down and watch because I know that most of the week will feature Reverend/Pastor Joshua and St. Cassie.

Yesterday after work, I tried to watch the Wednesday ITL cuz I heard it had some good Edmund scenes, but I ended up falling asleep! What's going on this week?!? Why has GL become so boring to me that I can't even watch what was supposed to be a good show without losing interest?!?

<SIGH>

    • I think June is the kids' mother and potentially Leslie's sister. There's enough story thre especially given Martin's feelings towards Leslie. It would make things even messier if he killed her husband, further intertwining her into his life
    • Same. And you know I've been trying my best with Y&R and how I feel about GH.

Also same.    Amen. And not alone in that minority.  I'm still wondering if that was a good drop off point for him all day. In a way...it truly is given what Ted and Eva's arc has been so far. But I will miss Maurice all the same.
    • This is probably more for the classic thread, but for me this type of writing starts ramping up around the time of Taggert's arrival, where a character pays lip service to Sonny's flaws but there is no real analysis and we are ultimately meant to be on his side. And I think it just accelerates, as there always gotchas and outs. Like Laura blaming Sonny for Lucky's "death" when we knew Helena was responsible. It's the type of writing I find most manipulative because they play audience criticisms against them.
    • I hope none of the theories of about June amount to anything and she just goes away. There’s nothing interesting about the story or character, and I think fans are constantly looking for deeper connections in everything.
    • You hit the nail on the head.  Nope, you are not alone. I like her too.
    • Out of these, I hope she isn't connected to Samantha and Tyrell. I just don't see a long term story there. I hadn't thought of a connection to Leslie but now that you bring it up...what if we find out June is Haley's sister and both were abandoned and raised in foster care. June ended up on the streets and Haley ended up with the Duprees. The mother who dumped them in foster care? Leslie. If they end up making Eva a stolen child of Nicole's, it would be a good way to develop some family for Leslie to help keep her on the canvas. She could ultimately make up with her kids and then she'd have access to Bill's money/power which could help her become a long term rival for the Duprees.
    • This was a HUGE story on the show for many years. Justin (Ross's brother) and Jackie Marler were Phillip's real parents. They showed a lot of the backstory in flashback when Jackie came on the show. Jackie caught Justin in bed with another woman. She was so devastated she divorced him immediately. She found out she was pregnant. I'm a little hazy on this--I THINK she told him she had an abortion, but maybe not. Maybe she just never told him she was pregnant. Anyway, she decided to give the baby up for adoption. She went to Europe (I think it was Amsterdam) to have the baby. She had the same doctor as Elizabeth Spaulding, who also was pregnant. The doctor was a personal friend of Alan's. He told Alan that Elizabeth's baby would be born dead and she would not be able to have more children. Instead of telling his wife the truth, Alan conspired with the doctor to do a baby switch. The doctor knew Jackie was planning to give her baby up, and she agreed to let the Spauldings have Phillip. Elizabeth woke up from the surgery and was told Jackie's baby was hers. Jackie almost immediately regretted it. She insinuated herself into Alan and Elizabeth's life so she could be near Phillip. They all became good friends. When Alan and Elizabeth returned to the states, they stayed with Jackie at first. Eventually, Alan and Elizabeth divorced and Jackie married him so she could be Phillip's stepmother. It was a disatrous marriage and they also divorced.  Justin found out the truth. Justin and Jackie remarried. Elizabeth found out and wanted them to have custody of Phillip. Alan, of course, was furious but for some odd reason eventually agreed to it. (He did not know at the time Justin and Jackie were the bio parents).  Ross and Alan had kind of an up and down relationship over the years. Ross wanted to BE like Alan in the beginning. When he was married to Carrie they were actually close friends with Alan and Hope. Their relationship totally degraded when Alan was chasing Trish Lewis and she chose Ross instead. Yes, and he also did not approve of how Alan dealt with Phillip much of the time. So they never became friends again.
    • It just does not feel like Y&R anymore, even if a lot of the actors are familiar. It's just... completely lost, and I've never not felt it couldn't be turned around until now and the past few years. Stunt castings (Colleen Zenk) do not remedy the mess. At all. The focus is all wrong; there is no focus. None at all.
    • 1) Ross and Alan had a history aside from Phillip. In the early '80's Alan torpedoes Ross' campaign for DA in retribution for Trish Lewis leaving him and falling for Ross. Ross then assisted Alex in kicking Alan out of Spaulding. Then in the late '80's, Vanessa and Ross break up over her working at Spaulding with Alan, and she's briefly engaged to Alan. Then Alan shot Phillip accidently, and well....you get (part) of the picture.  Phillip trusted Ross, and their closeness really chafed at Alan. I do not think Ross really initially held Alan adopting Phillip against him. Jackie had lied to Justin and had the baby in secret.  Jackie discovered Justin had had an affair and divorced him. When she came to town, she actually ended up marrying Alan to be close to Phillip. Jackie and Justin eventually remarried and had a daughter named Sam. Jackie dies, and Justin leaves town about a year later. Justin makes a brief return, but it's mostly tied to Sam and then Phillip leaves in '91. Justin leaves town again.  Rick and Phillip patch up their friendship, although there are some other rough patches. 2) No, Rick and Fletch generally got along. But I don't recall them interacting much afterward either after the divorce. Meredith had left of her own accord, and Fletch and Rick drifted into other stories.
