Nominations Announced on April 20, 2008

35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards - June 20 2008

Broadcast by ABC from the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Creative Daytime Emmys will held in New York at Lincoln Center - June 13 2008

For someone who lives in New York, it sucks that the award ceremony is in Los Angeles again next week. More so that I don't think the Emmys might be around much longer of these shows start going off the air.

Hmm, I though the Emmy's were going back to NYC this year, I guess Robin Strasser was wrong when she said that...

Nominations are announced on April 20th? Wow, that's late, usually they're announced in early March. I guess since they're tinkering with the Emmy selection process, it was bound to be delayed.

I'm glad they're keeping it in June, which saw a boost in ratings this year. I think keeping it away from all the highly promoted primetime series help the show. I just hope ABC does a two hour show, instead of that over the top mess they did last time.

I'm not a big fan of the LA based Daytime Emmys...when it was in NYC it just seemed more glamorous. And yes, I sure hope the 08 ceremony has more dignity than this years did because it was *bad*. Especially that set! And the fan zone! Ugh!

Give me a simple stage with decent lighting and a slew of video montages and I'm happy.

i agree that in NYC it was much more GLAM than in Hollywood, but still. since i live in cali and go to it im happy. and i do like the fan zone thing they do. it is lame, but fun for fans who get to go.

i am kinda suprsied tho. because only yr days bb and days tape in l.a. ... atwt oltl amc and gl tape in nyc. i know its 4 vs 4, but we all Days stars dont really go anymore, bb has a small cast. and the east coast soaps usually dom in nom's.

and i agree - the entire 3 hour primetime lineup should be long to daytime. id love to see a 2 hour show along with some kinda recap of something, a classic episode from a year when a soap won the emmy, the view with soap stars, something.

    • I also wonder if it was considered controversial at the time to show a morally corrupt doctor?(another character troupe for Agnes Nixon, the upstanding male citizen who is hiding secrets back at home) Up until the early 1970s, prime-time would very rarely tell stories about the private lives of doctors, because advertisers tended to shy away from such content.
    • The only blonde I see is one of the actual women staring at first & then screaming & running later.  DAYS: Vivian's manservant Ivan is in a long curly red wig.

Y&R: long straight black wig is the actor Peter Barton whose character name I am blanking on.
    • I very much liked office Cleary and the actress who portrayed her (as you say, Mary Peterson).  A shame her turn didn't evolve into a contract role.   BTW, does anyone know the timeframe/years that Betty Rae served as casting director?  If i understand correctly, she not only led the effort for contract roles, but also for shorter 13- and 26-week roles.  IMO, GL had LOTS of very well-casted, limited roles, too. I'm surprised the actors throughout the soap industry, and especially P&G actors, have not assembled a book or something similar, praising Rae.  Each actor could write a few paragraphs or a page of text describing his or her experience.
    • No. Ruth had an extramarital affair with David while married to Joe.
    • I'm not sure I agree with Bernstein's children on that. Bernstein's life and activism here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Bernstein#Social_activism_and_humanitarian_efforts
    • Thursday & Friday's episodes were excellent. The build-up was most definitely worth the wait (2 months). TMG, I can't give her enough accolades. AM, was also absolutely incredible. I think the fallout is going to have a ripple effect. The little clues that have been dropped,  hopefully, will weave seamlessly to reveal even bigger bombshells for the Dupree's and Martin.
    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archived copy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
