AMC: Lucci on AMC...

So do I Ryan, especially since Erica hasn't been this well written in YEARS!

Colin, Jeff and Aiden had a PA event this past week, and they said B&E started out good, and just fizzled, and that they flip flop too much. They also said the show is too dark as well, which it is.

(it's been going on since Malone)

It was a problem before Malone, too. Paul Rauch used Erika Slezak pretty well (though, it always seemed as if Niki Smith got more story than Viki, lol), but the late '70's/Joseph Stuart era pretty much belonged to the Core Four: Jenny (Wolek), Karen (Wolek), Brad (Vernon), and Marco (Dane).

And yet, the only time when Slezak publicly expressed her disapproval of the show (aside from the storyline where Carlo hired Elliott Durbin to brainwash Viki into killing Kevin) was recently, shortly before the beginning of the end of Dena's reign of terror.

I don't want people to think I'm anti-Susan Lucci because I'm not. I happen to adore and admire the woman, but I just have a problem with her coming out now.

In reality, Culliton had big plans for Erica: He planned to bring back Eric Kane, pair Jack and Erica, and throw in the Jack/Greenlee twist all at the same time.

When Frons come in, he nixed all of that.

(Of course, Rayfield/Cascio would resurrect the Jack/Erica and Jack/Greenlee plots later).

Anyway, my point? When Lucci was on the backburner that fall, she was not happy at all. So while she didn't go running to the mags about her disappointment, she did voice her displeasure to TPTB. I believe that was a main reason why the Jack/Erica pairing was resurrected after it was originally nixed.[/quote]

She was very upset with the writing durig that Chris Stamp/Trey blowing up her house, nonsense. The pairing wasn't working , the writing was terrible, and the fans couldn't stand Erica and she was very upset by that. Susan likes the "You love to hate Erica" part but when Erica is really disliked, that's when Susan speaks up. Frons arrived and they decided to backburner her for a while to let things die down a bit, and that's when the Jerica reunion story began. She was thrilled with the writing for that entire story(even the Desiree crapola <_< ) up until the Unabortion story began, but she still felt that she should support the show and not be vocal about her own personal feelings on the issue. Maybe she was told that Agnes approved of the idea and she adores Agnes so if it was okay with Susan? I truly have no idea what she thought about that and would love to hear her thoughts on it someday :D She loved the "New Divorce" story and so did Walt because they got to play comedy and she really loves to do that. They both wanted that to go on for a while and from what a little birdie told me, she marched into JHC office and voiced her displeasure and disappointment about that it was not. The He Said/She Said thing was the interim writer's idea but as you see the new destroyers put an end to that which made me happy. I would have liked it if it had been well thought out, a decent set created, and if it had given them some good debates but we didn't see anything close to that. Right now I'd take it in a heartbeat compared to what is happening now

I've heard whispers that she is not thrilled about something that is coming for Erica soon either so this could be why she is speaking out now. I hope that she uses whatever clout she has to stop the nightmare this show has become

Is the timing of Lucci's comments suspect? Look, when she didn't step up back in '91 (or whenever) and tell the network, "You know, I don't think I can play this Kendall story, b/c it just doesn't jibe with everything we've known about Erica," she lost some credibility points w/ me. No actor who is sensitive to her character, or to the history and integrity of her show, would allow such a tale to go unchecked.

Say what you will about Y&R's Eric Braeden, but whenever he has publicly put his foot down about this-or-that story, more often than not, he was right to do so.

I would've been embarrassed by the Desiree DuBuois storyline if I were Susan. It was complete garbage.

Yeah but speaking up about a Kendall storyline is one thing, but not saying anything about a storyline that rewrites something major as an abortion Erica had is another. That was GROUNDBREAKING in it's day, and I remember alot of us just expecting her to say something, anything about it, and when she didn't alot just figured she had no problem with it.

I'm not saying she didn't have a problem with it, just that it seems like she didn't by her silence....

LOL again I have to agree Ryan....

Morale must be at an all time low on the AMC set, those poor actors! Frons needs to go jump off a cliff or something, as much as he likes to tout his "saving the soaps," he's causing more harm than good.

Can AMC recover? More importantly, will TPTB allow AMC to recover?

Well, I'm not Susan, and I was embarrassed.

I got to give props to JHC to sticking to her guns on that one because I wanted Jack and Erica both dead during that story, lol.

Yeah but speaking up about a Kendall storyline is one thing, but not saying anything about a storyline that rewrites something major as an abortion Erica had is another.

And the original Kendall storyline didn't rewrite history? Not that I wish to defend the Unabortion, but at least that acknowledges actual history. It wasn't as if this was our first time to hear about the abortion. Kendall's mere existence is predicated on an assumption that Erica was walking around pregnant when the show began -- which, given the surrounding circumstances, could not have been possible. Not only would Mona have confided Erica's pregnancy to Nick Davis and Dr. Charles Tyler -- and not only would Phoebe Tyler, town busybody that she was, found out about it, and then used it to blackmail Mona into quitting her job (as Charles' secretary) and leaving town (w/ Erica) -- but Erica, desperate as she was to nab Phil away from Tara, would have seduced Phil and then claimed he fathered the baby faster than you can say "paternity test."

I remember alot of us just expecting her to say something, anything about it, and when she didn't alot just figured she had no problem with it.

Which is exactly how I felt about Kendall's introduction, lol.

I didn't say that, but it's not something that was GROUND BREAKING. I mean it was a freaking unabortion, not even in the ball park as a kid showing up one day, which is a soap staple anymore.....

Naw, you're just making some really good point, and I'd never bash ya, I'm part of the Ryan Chandler fan club ;):P

The fact that Erica is supposed to be in her 40's is enough for her to speak up......if Erica's in her 40's...I'm a [!@#$%^&*] monkey. Gimme some poo, I'll throw it at Frons, B&E and JHC.
