CBS: Lynn Marie Latham/Barbara Bloom *RUMOR*

I read this on the LA Times Daytime Emmys board and thought I would pass it along, just in case. It's a rumor, as the poster states, but I'd like to hope it's true!

Yes, I am new to the Board but I have been watching this board and the Latham situation at Y&R for a while. I felt I had to register today to tell you what I know/have heard since I know a bit more than is being reported because of a good friend who works in production in Daytime TV. First of all, keep in mind that Latham has been a colossal disappointment in bringing up ratings as she promised, the most glaring was the recent "Out of the Ashes" which cost almost double one week of production yet only increased ratings less than 10% of the projected increase. Yes, viewership was down on the West Coast due to the fires and the wall-to-wall coverage of them but still, it was really bad in the halls of Sony the days the numbers came in.

Note from me: On the Friday that began Out of the Asses, they actually declined in ratings, so that 10% increase would probably be lower. Also, considering how much promo that story got (and doubling the budget), you *know* Sony was pissed. At best they gained like 200,000 viewers, not matching the 6 million they were getting in February.

Second, no one on that set is happy or feels secure. No one. Too many firings, too many new characters and inconsistent if not utterly horrible writing. Lastly, that Nielson survey that was posted here was real, as are the dozen plus petitions on line that are constantly forwarded to CBS/Sony each week. Her days were numbered and this [the strike] is an excuse to get rid of her due to an iron-clad contract negotiated with the help of her good friend (from her ABC days) Barbara Bloom when LML was hired. Don't be suprised if the new new EP is in fact Wendy Riche, who was rumored to be the new EP months ago. And don't be suprised if there are many exits and returns of favorites after Jan. 2008. Finally, Sony execs hate egg on their faces so look for another scapegoat in this and that will be Barbara Bloom, probably in the second quarter of 2008.

I hope that you all don't get your hopes up too high. Again, this is the word on the street, from someone who does have insider info, but because of the strike there are a lot of hurdles to regaining control of the show. I can say that this same source has been accurate about a lot of other big news items this year that I knew of in advance, among them Eileen Davidson and Heather Tom's move to B&B and Kay Alden's hiring at the same show "to keep her on hand, in the Bell family." Jack Smith was made the offer first. Make of that what you will.

Let's just hope to GOD it's TRUE.

I'd love Wendy Riche back in daytime, either back at GH or any other show. I think she could do WONDERS with Y&R.

I pray and hope and BEG that all this is true!

I REALLY hope we get Kay Alden back, paired with a good EP, and that we see Latham disappear from soaps for good! I really do hope that!

I believe Babs Bloom will be canned - but for allowing the entire CBSD lineup to falter, and not just Y&R.

I'd like to believe it. But let's just say that some people's thirst for attention knows no limits at just one board, and I've seen this movie before.

I want ALL of this to be true. If these rumors were to occur...good Lord...Y&R might have a shot at redemption.

Why is Barbara Bloom being blamed? She has been advocate for all of the CBS soaps.

Barbara Bloom is the one who brought LML to CBSDaytime and the PGP have been in a sad state for over a year and she has done nothing to stop it. She even writes for Y&R from time-to-time, but can't spare a second to think about the other soaps.

SHe has been an absolute disaster at CBS if ya ask me.

Because, aside from B&B, which appears to be on the upswing - no small thanks to Kay Alden joining the writing staff, thank you - CBS Daytime, once the most (relatively) stable and consistent lineup, has been bitch-slapped into the old crapper.

I'm glad to read that people with power are looking way beyond this years Emmy wins and the CBS ratings surge with 3 of its soaps leading the pack. All of that is masking undeniable incompetence.

Still a rumor? It's getting pretty darn specific:

http://welovesoaps.blogspot.com/2007/11/so...-on-latham.html

From the new Soap Opera Weekly: "Sources say The Young and the Restless Lynn Marie Latham who was named head writer in Feb. 2006 and has worked as both Executive Producer and head writer since Oct. 2006, has been let go.

Sony Exec. Steve Kent is reportedly running the show until a replacement is named. Kent's title is Senior Exec. Vice-President of Programming and he oversees Y&R and Days of our Lives. It is unclear who is writing the show at the present time.

Y&R would only say that Latham, as a member of the WGA, is on strike."

Barbara Bloom thinks Ellen Wheeler and her pet poodle are doing great at GL. It is obvious to everyone except the idiots in charge that Kreizman and Wheeler are hurting GL big time.
