Yes, I have to admitt that my opinion of LML and her work was much better, up until December 2006 or so. Then, whatever semblence of good she had was quickly lost and gone. I've been trying to watch, I really have, but I can't--It's too damn boring!

I agree that Y&R (under Bell and Alden) was a marvel, a soap heaven. And, if it were in good shape, Y&R would kick B&B's butt anytime. But, right now, B&B is miles better than any soap on air.

And, I really do think that this has got to do with Alden. Ever since she came on board, the pace slowed down a little, we have super continuation, a uniformity in scripts, references to the past, it's all been absolutely marvelous. As I've said before, B&B is more Y&R now than B&B is.

But, even though it wouldn't be the best for B&B, I would DEFINITELY want Alden back to Y&R. She has worked on that show since 1974, she knows it, she has grown up with it and she is the only one who can make it good again (although I am sure that it's going to take much time to recover from the [!@#$%^&*] that LML's done). I'd definitely want Alden to go back to Y&R. And, who knows, maybe Bell learned a couple of things on how to make the show a little better.

How you came up with that is beyond me. :P

I'm a little annoyed how they write Jake. He's written SO clumsy. ANd he kinda looks like 15 years ago, just a little older. It's all just odd. LOL!

I still love to seem him back again...

As you said: fantastic week, even more fantastic Friday show and I'm SOOOOO pumped for this week.

Interesting... you know, I got nervous when I heard the rumors that Kay Alden might go back to Y&R! I loved Y&R also but LML has really driven this show into the ground and I cannot bring myself to watch anymore. It almost physically pains me to see characters I once loved acting in such an alien way. Acting as if they were on a badly-written ABC show (not saying ABC Daytime is badly written as a whole, but there are some shows that are better than others at the moment). I gave up Y&R back in August, tuned in to see Out of Our Asses and tuned out again, horrified at how far Y&R had fallen. It wasn't just bad -- it was bad and boring.

Y&R is going to have to do A LOT to bring me back on board. Big things like, you know, phenomenally better writing and touching on its history and rehiring Drucilla and others who have been fired would be a start. Although there again I am torn as I ::ADORE:: Eileen Davidson and Heather Tom on B&B at the moment -- in some ways more than I ever loved them on Y&R (I know, I know -- sacrilege).

Secondly, Y&R needs to do some little things -- like improve its production values which I think actually deteriorated under LML. The lighting is no longer rich and lush and character-heightening. And the old background music which used to add nuance and tension and romance to a scene needs to return, IMO. None of this generic college-rock whining away on the background.

More than anything, though, I don't want Alden to let B&B go just because it is the "little-sister" show. She and Brad Bell's partnership has reinvigorated the show to the point where it is now comparable to Y&R even during Y&R's greatest run. I'm biased because I have watched B&B since 1987. I don't want B&B to suffer just to prop up Y&R. I think both shows should be setting the standard in soaps, not just one of them to the detriment of the other.

However, I know KA's big love is Y&R... I just hope if she goes over there to HW that she leaves behind the foundations and template (and writers) for B&B to go forward in the current high-quality manner it is doing now.

I know! Y&R's characterization used to be so strong, that you used to know those characters. You used to know that, when Jill knocked on Kay's door, some [!@#$%^&*] was going to happen soon. You didn't need anything else for a cliffhanger--just the threat, because those characters were so real that you didn't need any gimmicks.

I agree that Y&R has A LONG WAY before it gets back to its former glory. I think it will take quite a few months (if not more) to turn it into what it was. As for Eileen Davidson and Heather Tom, I don't know.... If they get a new angle for Ashley on B&B, then I'd love for her to stay there, because I like her character much more there than how she ended up on Y&R. However, the Abbotts have been basically wipped out and having Jack's sister back in town would do wonders, if they gave her story and turned her back to the strong woman that she can be.

On the other hand, as much as I would LOVE Heather's Victoria back, Katie is just too damn perfect and the return of the Logans has been perfect. I REALLY don't want them to go anywhere. So this is really something that cuts both ways, to be honest, unless Tom has already left B&B when and if she re-joins Y&R.

You know, the weird thing is that, even though I always immensely loved B&B, I always viewed Y&R as my favorite and the best. And I kinda want that to be the case again, I have to admit. Even though B&B has rich characters and some rich history (courtesy of Bell), Y&R is the one that is truly fantastic and I really, really, really want that again. Am I wrong to want that?

Yeah, I really think that KA wouldn't stay away from Y&R, no matter what. But I'm sure she wouldn't leave B&B hanging.

    • Imagine the possibilities if Mary was the politically correct moral center of the Loves and clashed with Donna over her snobby socialite tendencies (once the re-recast was done).
    • Show starts soon. Wonder if we will get the Voice saying "The role of Ted Richardson is now being played by Keith Robinson" and if they'll update the intro
    • I initially thought BTG was going for the Duprees being (somewhat) like the Kennedy family- wealthy and politically influential. And Martin's accident being like how Chappaquiddick (Link) caused Ted Kennedy to cancel his plans to run for president in the 1970s.  (He ran in 1980 but didn't get the nomination). But now it seems to have more layers that that, so I have no idea.
    • The episodes uploaded today by the YT channel have been done through the end of November 1985 and what a mess we have in the Liza/Sunny/Hogan/Lloyd/Estelle story. I think it would have been easier to gradually bring Hogan/Sunny back together.. maybe even addressing the toxic situation and trying to work through it.   Unrelated to all that, I see that Gary Tomlin has attempted to reset the show to where it was when he left at the end of 1983.  He really seems obsessed with regressing Wendy as a character after the progress/evolution of her character post 1983.. with her sleeping with her mother's new boyfriend.   Based on what I've watched of the show online... the one consistency was the mother/daughter relationship between Stephanie/Wendy... and even though Stephanie was recast, I think violating that relationship was a mistake. I can see why Tomlin didn't last long in this stint as head writer.

    • I don't think that would be the reason tbh. Thinking about it, it's probably storyline related - I could see bio mom / dad eventually turning up (or maybe it's June as speculated) and wanting the children back. I could also see it being a part of the fall-out of Martin's secret being revealed now that he's backed down from a presidential campaign - his and Smitty's ability to be parents comes into question, which the bio parents use. They might've wanted the kids to be at a age where they could reliably speak for themselves what they prefer, but also have enough memories of their bio parent(s) not doing a good job. I'd also think that they might want to avoid having the image of this gay couple keeping a mother away from her small children, as it might skew the viewer to sympathise too much in one direction.
    • Something self-defense is my guess, and I have a feeling maybe he was protecting someone close to him and the optics looked bad so Vernon/Anita covered it up (my guess maybe he was protecting Vernon/Anita).
    • If Reginald had had more dimensions he probably wouldn't have been killed off and Carl might not have been brought back to fill the international supervillain role. I think though that the Loves were also severely damaged by the way Nicole and Peter were made iredeemable and written out. I definitely feel that loss more than the loss of Reginald, primarily since they were good characters to begin with and were only ruined during this period.
    • What if they were originally cast as Vanessa and Doug's twins and then were moved to Samantha/Tyrell when the show decided to delay introducing the twins? It's a shame they didn't stick with the original plan. BTW, does anybody have any new speculation on what Martin's secret will be? Brandon is hinting nobody is guessing it. Initially I thought it would be something where he was drunk and killed somebody or something like that but now I'm feeling like maybe it wasn't completely his fault. I don't get the vibe they're going to take him in a dark direction anymore.
