Days: How can We Help Deidre Hall and Martha Madison

I'm sorry, but did you see Francis' reels? She knocked what she had out of the park. In her month on GH, she managed to bring back the sense of heart and soul, which the show had been lacking and continues to lack without her. While it isn't fair for her to win with just a month's worth of material, her Emmy reels were spectacular and beyond powerful. That was a tough category to decide, but Francis' powerful reels coupled with her legendary stature within the industry helped her win.

Supporting is usually the hardest and best category anyway. It should be a tough race this year. Gina Tognoni, Kathy Brier, Catherine Hickland, and Rebecca Herbst all have meaty material to choose from.

Hmm, since Marlena was virtually non-existent all year long, except for last week, should Deidre be snubbed because she wasn't give airtime all year long?

She did look like a goddess, and she was so funny and nice. I loved when she spoke to one of her fan club members in the audience who lives is Australia.

One thing that is interesting to me, is you see how comfortable she is in her own skin. There just seems something more relaxed about her and at peace about her than say during interviews in the 80s and when she first returned in 1991

No, thank you! ;)

While I think Deidre getting a nomination would be a good thing and more power to her if she gets one. However, I too never got what was the big deal about her acting. Days has had better actresses than her on the show. Suzanne Rogers and Susan Seaforth Hayes at their peak had more versatility and screen presence than Hall has ever had, IMHO. However, I won't fault anyone for seeing something in an actor and actress that I don't see.

It's not about airtime. There are actors who can do in a few episodes what others can't in a year.

I saw it play out. Every episode, and really didn't like the material GF had to play. I have no doubt that she's a good actress, I've seen clips of some really good performances, but the material she was given for Laura's return was awful, and it wasen't even focused on her. The writing was crap. They didn't give her a chance to shine. I mean, she was barely on, and that was just ... wrong. I expected it to be a month filled of Luke and Laura and they were barely on.

Take actresses like Susan Flannery and Suzanne Rogers if you try to attempt to put Deidre in the same group as the two other women. That is like comparing Christina Augilera to Dame Helen Mirren or Paris Hilton to Kathy Bates. Deidre is almost all the time sleepwalking in her scenes, her purpuse is the look beautiful all along that is the only really thing she is there. Why not give Suzanne Rogers a great storyline, kill of her husband who is no longer on, she you know could have an emmy, she is a great underrated actress, but really if Suzanne didn`t get a emmy when she where on more during the killerstoryline, why should Deidre get one?. If Deidre would win i would dress up like Winnie the puh. Ha...................

I agree that there are more talented actresses than Deidre, and I wouldn't compare her to Susan Flannery, but Deidre IS DAYS. Yes, it would be lovely to see Suzanne Rogers get a great storyline, but what her fans (and I don't consider myself a fan) are right when they say that she is the heart of the show. When Deidre is not prominently deatured, ratings plummet. If DOOL is going to survive, they need to give their best, biggest stories to Deidre.

Deidre will probably never win an emmy, but the show should revolve around her.

Yep, and I say that, even believing there times where I feel Dee has overacted, or that she was sleepwalking through her scenes. But that was when the material was awful, and we are all human. But she is a wonderful actress, and when she's in the moment, she's amazing. When she was "confessing" to the serial killings, she was amazing. And I don't know of another actress who can have played it the same way, it was that good.

I agree. And that storyline was outragous, but her acting was the saving grace for that story IMO. I hated so much in it (Bo's behaviour for example, Bo would NEVER do what he did had he been in character), loved some things (John's devotion to Marlena, Hope's friendship and Julie's involvement - I kinda can't stand Julie sometimes, but I love watching Susan Hayes on the screen). But her acting brought in emotional moments that gave you something to relate to.

And let's not even discuss "the Hattie experience" as I like to call it. I'll go on for days about it. That was just [!@#$%^&*] awesome. And Marlena talking to her computer? Brilliant. The cat & mouse game with Tek? Ahh, so good.

What were we talking about again? Right, Deidre being screwed out of Emmys. Need an example of how what show she's on is against her. For that year (Serial killer stuff), there were 8 nominees, I belive she was the only one who didn't get a nomination. Why? She's on Days. The Emmys is all politics, so she's screwed. I know it's not a big deal for her, but she deserves to be noticed because when she gets the material to play, she's... god, she gives me chills, she's that good. No one does emotion better than her.

The show she was on didn't stop Eileen Davidson from getting a nomination in 1998 (though NO ONE was going to beat Watros that year)...

NBC's horrible reputation in daytime doesn't help Days out either.

Are we forgetting that Deidre was nominated for both supporting and lead in the 80's too?

Not everyone is going to win an Emmy, also age does play a factor. If you're not Flannery, Slezak, and Zimmer, the Emmy's tend to go to women in their 30's-40's.

Hell, Beverlee McKinsey, who is considered by many to be the best actress to ever grace daytime doesn't have an Emmy. That alone makes the Emmy's a joke to me. When you consider you get an award based on two reels, it is really that accurate of who was the best actor/actress in a calendar year?

    • I'm almost positive that it was changed in the 80s.
    • And that revolving door has led to the cancellation of so many daytime dramas since the early-1980s.   Very sad.
    • That's a good point: if a show's state is not mentioned for many years, it's easier for the revolving door of never-ending newbies in charge to miss out on or get confused about previously-established facts.
    • IMO I get a brotherly/sisterly vibe from Kat/Jacob
    • Yes, the locale officially switched to Illinois in the early-1980s.  But I was watching daily during the entire Lemay era, and I'm fairly confident Bay City was never referenced as being in Michigan in any of Lemay's scripts. Agreed, Lemay did care about AW's past -- and used the past as subtext for many characters.  But it is unfortunate he chose never to mention (or perhaps was unaware of) the Michigan connection.  So by not mentioning it, this may be when that connection was lost for TPTB.

King of the Hill Voice Actor Johnathan Joss was gunned down and shot dead this past Sunday at 59 years old in Texas.  Here's the video of someone recording Joss' last moments before he was murdered.  This Monday past, the suspect turned himself to the police station and currently placed on house arrest until his Trial on August.
    • I was hoping the Articulettes  would be more like Klymaxx then the Supremes.  Talk about inspiration for a soapy type of stories  (one of the bandmates tried to use the name in order to perform, internal fighting over who was the lead, and the same bandmate that tried to use the name of the group tried to include their name as a song writer... and almost got an award for songwriting). I could see Sharon/Tracy/Anita fighting over all that... and Sharon trying to use the name Articulettes in order to perform and big bad bully Anita and Vernon block it from happening. Shanice is like Amy Vining... but BTG... Amy Vining had a life beyond the nurses station.
    • I don't believe Lemay was the one who negated the fact that the show was originally set in Michigan. Aside from a few curious character mutations, he did seem to care about the past. I think AW switched the local to Illinois in the 1980s or later. I don't think TPTB always knew or remembered the past well enough to give new headwriters full accurate information, anyway. Lemay wrote a story about Pat Randolph killing a predator named Greg Bernard who was targeting her daughter. The writer referred to a teenaged Pat killing her boyfriend (Tom Baxter) by stabbing him, as she later killed Greg. But in reality, Pat had shot Tom with a gun, so TPTB were lax in knowing or correctly relating established facts to the current scribe. Is the specific murder weapon of a long-gone character a vital component 15 years after the fact? Probably not to most viewers, but for those who had been watching way back when, little mistakes like this can be grating. I'm not devastated that AW changed Bay City's home state along the way, but I see this as another grating point that a little research could have prevented. Soap viewers have loooooong memories, LOL!
