That is something I truly adore about Ed Scott.

I also loved that they held off on using music during the scene where Marlena confides in Belle about being a tehrapist. Such a powerful scene.

Marlena's breakdown=the most powerful scene on a soap oera for this entire year.

I'm still surprised at the amount of flashbacks we got today. Who directed today's show by the way?

I've never seen his work before, but I really have loved this week.

That kind of scene, with that much dialouge and that much emotion, that's what will set a mark between a capable actor and just an actor. Deidre bared Marlena's soul and it was beautiful and heartbreaking to watch.

The breakdown was so simple. No throwing, no fits, no hysterics, just a woman who's lost the man she loves and finally realizes he's actually gone. He won't drink from his mug again, he won't get to finish his book.

I loved the little, simple things. I loved that the sheets were messy [on the bed], I loved the french bakery story, I loved that they showed flashbacks for scenes I really love, I love that they used their song (If It Wasen't For Your Love by Heather Headley), which was first used for Marlena's "death" in 2004, I loved Marlena's indifference to the curtains, I just loved it.

I loved Marlena quietly telling Stefano to get out twice before telling him what the deal is, then yelling at him (Deidre screaming in a scene is really rare, she doesn't like doing it, which made it more awesome) to GET OUT! Was just awesome. Marlena looking at Stefano with this empty look in her eyes after he says the thing about funerals?

Loved Marlena reaching out for John to her side automatically. And the way her voice started cracking as she talked about him not being there was just so sad. She looks so lost.

What an amazing episode today again. Hope days keep this momentum up, been great for 6 straight days. I loved everything in the episode especially that montage, omg that montage was amazing. Also when Stefano looking back at when he was branding john with the phoenix.

Loved the pub scene, i love that shawn said too John Black. Everyone drank to it but something that i didnt get, everyone was drinking a shot of alcohol but Stephanie was drinking what look like coffee in well a coffee mug. I dont think Shelley drinks alcohol and that is one of the reasons.

Also, I hear Deidre has a history of not submitting her name, does anyone know why?

Deidre is one of the very very very rare actress in any medium who just doesn't submit her name for every award possible. I've read interview in the past where she said the reason she doesn't is because she always feels someone else had better material. I think the last time she submitted was during that serial killer storyline two or three years ago.

And that is why I admire her. That is what some of these other actors and actresses should so instead of putting their names in every year, even when they don't deserve it.

The whole emmy system is a mess. I don't even care who wins anymore or gets a nod because, to me, the award has no value at all and hasn't for at least about a decade.

Hi this episode did not air on WNBC in New York because of the neverending Joe Torre press conference. Will the ratings for this episode be counted into the weekly average?

Yes, they will, because it was only preempted in one market. ATWT and OLTL were preempted as well, and will effect those shows too.

As much as I love Joe, that is not a good reason for a preemption.

I just hate that because it could hurt Days. I think there was a preemption in another market earlier this week too.

I love her for it, I just wish she'd be a little easier on herself. I mean, she had some amazing stuff during the Brady debacle and the soap mags actually commented on it (they had her as a shoe-in for a nomination on one of their lists, I belive).

If the Emmys were credible and fair, the only issues for her should be whether to submit in lead or supporting (considering she's had NO AIRTIME this entire year and nothing to do), what dress to wear and whether to write her speech or just do it when she wins.

I can't get over how well written and acted the scenes were between Marlena and Belle, and just how well Dee and Martha did. First, they ARE mother and daughter. I feel it, and believe it. They have such a connection. And as Marlena was talking, I really believed what she was saying, nothing seemed false, which happens on soaps so often. When Marlena was telling Belle how she has experienced great loss before (obviously speaking about the deaths of DJ and her sister, and then Roman's "death,"), but somehow this death was just impossible to deal with. I believed it; she shared many years with this man, they were married, they were best friends, they were lovers, they were married again; so much history, so much passion, so much complexity. I just am stunned that this is Days of Our Lives.

I hope and pray this is the beginning of a new day for the show, that even if the ratings don't move up this week, it doesn't make TPTB think viewers don't want quality. Through word of mouth, with putting Deidre, Kristian, Peter, Mary Beth, and Stephen in the spotlight, giving major story to Martha, Alison, James Scott, Brandon, Jay Kenneth Johnson, developing a new younger romance, and focusing on family, this show will recover, I know it.

Exactly. It is no longer about honoring the Best but about honoring who is the judges best friend.

This whole week has been amazing, and I hope this continues into next week and the weeks ahead!

For the past year, I've been watching the show primarily because of Sami and EJ's story, which right now has been turned into one big mess. I had been considering tuning out.

But I decided to keep watching. And I'm so glad that I did.

I haven't seen this much consistently great acting on Days ever. During the past two weeks, especially this last week, nearly every member of the cast has brought "it". Peter Reckell, who I love but had sort of written off as far as being able to carry a dramatic scene anymore--he brought me to tears in his scene in John's hospital room. In fact, the past week reminded me of why I had fallen in love with Bo in the first place all of those years ago. And Martha Madison, I'm completely in awe. I had no idea that this young woman could hold her own with the vets in a dramatic scene. I just hadn't been paying attention to her story over the past year. But she is extraordinary.

I save my best for last, which is Deidre Hall. I've have missed her. I say this because over the years, I had grown to dislike Marlena's character, not because of Deidre, but because of the way Marlena had been written. This week the Marlena I adored reappeared and she gave a performance that ranks up there with the best I've ever seen. The scene with her alone in her room, breaking down in sorrow, even thinking about it makes me cry because her performance so reminded me of the feelings I've gone through when I lost someone dear in my own life. There wasn't a false note hit by Deidre. Marlena became someone that I could relate to on an emotional level. I never thought I see that again on Days.

I don't mean to discount the work of any other the other actors. They've all been great this week. Drake, who I must admit I've never really been his biggest fan, moved me to tears and I must give him props.

And the writing -- John's accident, the hospital scenes, his death scene, the funeral, the effective use of flashbacks, the character interactions at the pub, and Marlena's breakdown in her room -- all beautifully done. The only weak part for me -- the Sami/EJ/Lucas merry-go-round. That storyline blows right now in a large part because the show can't decide what kind of personality to give to EJ. Is he bi-polar man for now? And the more saintly Sami becomes, the more I want to hurl. Even my love for James Scott's acting can't overcome the stench starting rise from this storyline, which held promise not so long ago. And you're hearing this from a hardcore EJami "shipper." Sami and EJ are getting on my last nerve at this moment. I hope the writers finally decide on a direction to follow in this story. Either go with Lumi and EJami and move on. I'm starting to get beyond the point for caring anymore. Another thing I never thought would happen.

But back to the best of this week . . . I hope Days gets some recognition for the fine work by everyone. The show was heartfelt and quite beautiful. It's interesting that it took the death of a beloved character to breathe some life back into the show. Even if this rise in quality is temporary, which I hope isn't the case, it won't take away from this having been a great week for Days creatively.
