I'm just sick of seeing Sami on every single day. I like Ali Sweeney, and I think she's a great actress (okay, her crying scenes need a lot of work, imo, but she's otherwise great).

She is on way too much, and too many characters that should have stories of their own (Marlena, Bope, Stefano, Kate) instead are revolved around her. Others, like Maggie, don't have anything to do, which really pisses me off.

While the writing is great with what they are doing, they really need more balance and they really should spread the wealth.

I'm on Sami OVERLOAD.

Well i disagree. I love sami. And i love her current storyline. For the past few years she has talked about trying to do something good fort he brady to reddem herself. and stopping this fued is perfect for her to do.

Not to mention the fact thast EJ & Sami are Days best couple (that they are using). They just need to get her away from Lucas, IMo. Stop having her be torn and unsure of what to do. Just pikc E and stick with it.

I don't see her as being thrown under the bus to redeem EJ -- Andre would fit that role more than anyone else and I don't even see it for him.

What I resented was the near total personality make over of Sami when she married lucas. I realize people "change" but it's not ususally so drastic with all elements of their real personality vanishing. I actually despised her and was bored beyond belief when she was on: she simply wasn't Sami anymore.

No matter who she ends up with - or if she ends up on her own - I want to see the real Sami - with more maturity- but still true to herself / her character.

I COMPLETELY LOATHE what they are doing to Sami, but I don't see this personality change of hers as having anything to do with redeeming EJ. The screwing up of Sami began WAYYYYYYYY before the show started its half-hearted attempt to try and undo some of the damage they did to the character of EJ when Hogan took over.

IMO all of the problems with Sami since Hogan took over had more to do with him needing to weaken Sami (just as he's had to weaken/sluttify all women to fit the misogynistic constructs of his stories) and convert her into the weepy heroine he wanted her to be, her badass bitch past be damned, as he manuevers to kill Days of our Lives with the Chinese water torture that is EJami/Lumi. It also may have to do with Hogan hiring all these ATWT writers who have no flipping clue who Sami Brady is and why people love her (or loved her before this current story). SAMI IS NOT MARLENA AND SHE NEVER WILL BE, Hogan, and it is an insult to both Sami and Marlena fans for you to try to sell us this bill of goods.

IMO, as I said in yesterday's DOOL thread, a big problem with this story is they are setting up this dynamic to make Lucas the saintly righteous victim and Sami the clueless, brainless, fickle girl being seduced by the big bad DiMeras. It's the same crap they did with the Santeen story with the Bradys/church as the saintly righteous victim deigning to forgive the clueless, fickle girl that was Colleen seduced by the big bad DiMera and it's obnoxious. I hate seeing Sami this way just as much as I did Colleen.

Hogan is obsessed with the Bradys being the good guys and his vision of Lumi as this fairy tale supercouple they never were and Sami as this watered down weepy heroine so that to complete her "redemption" she apparently has to continue to do penance for all of her past sins by being a selfless martyr for her family in marrying EJ the same way she was a martyr for Lucas when she submitted to sex with EJ in that car back in December.

It's just AWFUL and sexist as hell IMO what they are doing to Sami this way in that in her "redemption" at no point has she matured enough to have given up any of her pathetic desperation for approval or built up any more self-esteem, which was truly the root of all her mistakes in the past, but instead she's simply gone about trying to get approval by being this selfless martyr to her family and Lucas rather than through scheming, which at best results in her coming across as totally out of character and a bore, and at worst comes across as her being a phony hypocrite flooding the screen with her crocodile tears now about how much she cares about Lucas and her family given the many ways that she had so cavalierly and coldly and vindictively screwed them over in the past when they stood in the way of her getting what she wanted.

I want my anti-Brady back!

But this is nothing new.

Hogan made Sami pimp herself out to help Roman and Bo try to arrest EJ TWICE last winter fall (and had Roman pimp her out for a private meeting with EJ even after Roman knew about the rape/sextortion). He also made Sami pimp herself by sleeping with EJ to save Lucas.

He is obsessed with punishing Sami to "redeem" her. It's screwed up. Just like what he is doing to Kate in degrading her by making her so pathetic to be Stefano's whore again and kicked to the curb by Lucas over a misunderstanding and not even something she did.

I love EJami and I love marriage of convenience soap stories but I have little hope Hogan won't screw them up the way he has everything else.

Great post IMiss! ITA.

EJ is not responsible for Sami's personality change into the weeping housefrau. IMHO, the only scenes where "old" Sami lets loose are the scenes with EJ. She STILL acts more timid and afraid of what Lucas and her beloved family will think of her than she does of any sort of harm that would come to her from that supposed devil incarnate EJ.

ICAM and you hit the core of the problem. Sami's personality change is a symptom, but we've been seeing too much of the same thing since Sheffer started (either the weepy distressed female or the slut/hooker). I don't know why someone doesn't give him a hint that men can regain their physical attributes without trashing the character of every woman on the show or re-writing history. At this point, I'd guess a hint wouldn't send a strong enough message - a smack upside the head or a kick in the behind seems more appropriate.

I don't like what happened over the summer but the past few weeks I do like what I am seeing. She has her spark back and I like her wanting to marry EJ to save Roman and spare her family the pain of the feud. She was the black sheep for so long it's her way of making up for it. Sami has come a long way and I feel she is finally becoming what she should've been years ago...a mature, loving woman. She has become a heroine IMO and that is what she should be. I know I will meet alot of disagreement with this but it's the way I feel.

Having said all that, I think Sami needs a break. Her, Lucas, and EJ needs a reduction in airtime like Belle,Shawn, and Philip got for a bit. I love them and even I am starting to get annoyed. I am happy she is at the center and in a major story like she should be but a break is needed.

    • It is amazing how everyone in GC just swaps partners and is instantly in love and their previous relationship never happened. All while everyone’s exes live in the same town and go to the exact same 4 places as each other.
    • No to Andre/Ashley. I'm not sensing any connection. Kat is playing a dangerous game going against Silk Press Sheila.
    • Today was definite a good episode day with surprising 1:1 scenes between Bill/Silk Press Sheila & SPS/Kat.  And the final long scene between SPS/Kat with the close ups and cliffhanger reminds me so much of old school P & G/Bell soaps. It fits since Judy Tate (script writer) wrote for P & G soaps for years and Zimmerman (breakdown writer) worked on both Bell soaps. I even liked the Ashley/Derek scenes only because it feels as if there is a point to the scenes (lead up to a break up perhaps).  Andre/Ashley having a scene tells me that the show is still testing them out.. and I think showing the growing disconnect between Derek/Ashley will eventually lead to the two possibly dating. NuTed.. he seems more humble and less boastful/confident than the previous Ted.  Perhaps the show felt the previous Ted couldn't play remorse/humble.. and they made the switch.  Time will tell. Lastly... it was a Dani free day

    • Goulet also had an odd way of speaking - very clipped and brisk, like she had just gotten out of a '40s film. She sounded out of breath. She had this on all her soaps. She was a better actress than Tolan and did well enough with Mary's grief over her marriage in her final week or two in the part but had no real spark.  I agree they may have found a better Mary if they had tried harder. For some reason the recasting for the Ryan kids was never what it should have been. I don't know what was going on with Barbie Siobhan. Maybe that was ABC.
    • The finale peaked at 31.1 rating when Katherine hit Bobby with her car.
    • Exactly. And it's not like Stephanie didn't live a life when Hennig played her.  There are so many stories and relationships you can mine from her past.  And we just got......a book and sex with Alex or the random Bobby backstory which no one needed  I trust new writing can get the character back on track.  Like I said, I do think Abigail Klein has charisma.
    • Today (Thurs May 15) eppy not on paramount *menu* but it's on cbs.com. If you take the cbs episode URL and substituted paramountplus for cbs in the same URL, you get the episode on pplus https://www.cbs.com/shows/video/Huj7bAYV8H6T038u9cXam3bk6QXNkM2Y/ https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/video/Huj7bAYV8H6T038u9cXam3bk6QXNkM2Y/
    • Really good episode today. Even the characters who usually annoy me, like Chase and Brook Lynn, got some sweet scenes. I also appreciate that they're finally giving Lucky more to do, letting him in on Ric & Ava's blackmail scheme. And those Liz and Lucas scenes were fantastic;  Van Hansis has been bringing such playfulness to the role of Lucas, he brings out the best in scene partners like Laura Wright and Becky Herbst. It was also nice to get Liz's perspective on why her romantic rapprochment with Lucky is moving so slow; it makes perfect sense that she thinks he's not really capable of settling down, even if he wants to be with her.
    • I thought Keith did great as well. His scene with Colby was what sold me. He displayed the emotions that a man who knows he's made a mistake and wants to rectify should have. Its funny how Maurice has been given passes in his acting that other actors have not. What Keith has shown me is that he can atleast keep up with the ladies in his story instead of them acting circles around him when Maurice was playing the role.
