You know, interest in this year’s Indian Wells feels muted, even with media darlings Fedal playing well. I guess the matches haven’t been that scintillating, aside from (I heard) one-offs like Serena/Vika or Monfils’s demolition of Kohlschreiber. And I suppose the resurrection of Bencic isn’t resonating that widely.

Serena/Vika was the match of the tourney, closely followed by Vee/Petra.  I'm still watching (and happy Mrs Roboto is out) but my sense of urgency is now gone.  I will say that I'm enjoying Bencic's comeback too.

Indian Wells has always been trash.  I didn't miss it when Venus and Serena used to skip it and I wouldn't mind if they skipped it again.

The management at IW don't clean their facilities properly, sickening players, their courts are godawful slow and what in the ever-loving hell happened in Elina Svitolina's hotel room last night/early morning??!

A good thread about Novak’s elbow issues even at his 2015-16 peak, while a group of several dumb, amnesiac, narrative-pushing, Fedal-worshipping tennis journalists seemed to imply it came out of nowhere and/or downplayed it in a way they’d never do with other players:

Indian Wells is an entire clusterf*ck and it's what they deserve.  They never apologized to the Williams Sisters and their karma has been bad ever since.

Rafa pulled out as expected and won’t play until Monte Carlo. Roger through to final.

Words cannot describe how pissed off I am about this.  But I knew something was up when he won his match with 2 tie breaks.  May as well pull out than be humiliated by Fed again.

Ugh!  I postponed picking up my new car for this match!
