AMC: Sabine Singh Biography

Ok - this bitch is LOADED - haha. I had no idea (I should have from the name) - that she comes from Indian and Austrian descent! Her father was an Indian Maharaja - which I find so AWESOME bc I've never actually heard of one of those except in one of my favorite movies, Moulin Rouge.

Anyway - another very interesting tidbit - she was set up on a blind date with Cameron Mathison 8 years ago - but it ended up never happening. Talk about ironic!

Here is the full article:

Sabine Singh was born in New York to the daughter of an Indian Maharaja father and an Austrian beauty queen mother. As a child, she enjoyed both dancing and acting. Singh attended the University of Michigan, but soon found herself back in New York at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. There, she concentrated on acting. Acting led her to London, where she studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, the Stella Adler Conservatory, Playwrights Horizons, the British American Drama Academy and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Upon returning to America, Sabine acted in numerous movies, including The Anarchist Cookbook, Maryam, Someone Like You, and Say You Love Satan. She also guest-starred on many popular television shows, including LAS VEGAS, CSI: NY, DAWSON'S CREEK, LAW & ORDER and THE SOPRANOS.

Sabine loves acting for television, but she also loves theater. She was a founding resident company member of Jim Simpson's and Mac Wellman's award-winning The Flea Theater in TriBeCa. Recently, she appeared in the off-Broadway production of The Gold Standard.

Now splitting her time between New York, Los Angeles and London, Sabine is very close with her family, including her sister, Schandra, an artist. She is an active member of The Art of Living Foundation and The International Association of Human Values.

—Sabine worked with Sir Ben Kingsley while studying at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

—She played Martha Stewart's daughter in the TV-movie MARTHA BEHIND BARS.

—Eight years ago, she was set up for a blind date with Cameron Mathison (Ryan, AMC) but the date never happened.

^^Yeah, I definitely think she's a good actress and is doing really well in this storyline. It's just so hard for fans to accept a recast of such a popular character/actor. I've accepted her as Greenlee though now, and hope that we finally get over this Ryan/Greenlee thing and can move on.

But anyway - I'm still loving the Indian Maharaja/Moulin Rouge thing - haha - that's just awesome to me for some reason.

I don't mind Sabine. I think she's a solid actress. Physically, I think she looks the part, too. But again, she's no Budig, who was a very skilled comedienne and could take the edge off Greenlee's overbearing bitchiness. Singh can be shrill, but that's how Greenlee is being written. Even Budig seemed to falter once Greenlee became a pathetic Ryan propper.

She can't compare to Budig and that is probably her greatest flaw as the character of Greenlee.

As an actress I think she's okay. Not bad. Not great. Just borderline of good.

The biggest difference between the two is that Budig was skilled and added nuance. I am not seeing that with Sabine. But that may have to due with the writing. But even Budig who was given crap writing was at times able to make great scenes with awful material. I agree with the poster above. Budig was able to make Greenlee funny and was able to have great one liners and was able to inject humor even when it was something that wasn't particuliarly funny. She would just deliver the line in a way that added certaint dynamics to the character and dimensions to the relationships.

I actually really like her Greenlee--it's similar yet different enough to be the same character, but a different take.

I think most of the probs people are having with her are due to usual recasting concerns and writing.

Cameron actually mentioned he was set up on a date with her in one of the pieces released when the casting was mentioned.

from her last name i figured she had some Indian descent in her.

well I didnt enjoy Rebecca's Greenlee much b/c all that started back with Scott & Becca

but obviously the s/l seems crap for greenlee now.

thanks for posting.

I think that people get so used to a certain actress as that part...in this case Rebecca Budig. So of course if RB wasn't coming back to play Greenlee, then there will always be some sort of animosity to accept someone new. It happened with Felicia Forrester replacing Laura Wright on GL. With recasts, either you like them or you don't. Sometimes, depending upon how well they do (or how long they stay on for), you get used to them.
