Drew Carey is the new host of TPIR

I guess many people here saw the taping that he did and were in talks with the network to be the host huh?

Carey will do fine. He will be NO BOB BARKER and if people want that, then every single person would have failed.

Drew relates to the common person, like Bob did and will be a great choice.

of course we have to wait and see.

He didn't even audition and he himself said he initially rejected CBS's offer to host the show. What does that tell you?! Everyone else had to audition for CBS/Fremantle to see if they would be the perfect fit and Drew Carey has his POWER OF TEN pilot floating around(which looks like a completely different format from PRICE). How do they even know if they guy will be a good fit for the show? Oy vey!

I think you're missing the point. No one here wanted a Bob Barker clone/wannabe. If we did, we would have all been pulling for George Hamilton. I think fans of the show really want someone who will keep the show looking, feeling, and continuing to be THE PRICE IS RIGHT.

That's the major thing. If Drew can keep the old housewives from flipping over to Lifetime, then he will have done his job. CBS may have wanted to go for a younger demo with Drew, but the main thing is keeping the audience you have already and building on that.

If he doesn't, then PRICE is so done for.

Ugh.

The last thing the show needed was a comedian. Comedians are NOT good game show hosts, at least not the ones in the last five or ten years. Oh boy, I can't wait for Drew's contrived punch lines and constant desperation for laughs.

Todd Newton should be pissed right now. That man is a game show host. That's his job. He's not some sort of wannabe renaissance man who wants to have a sitcom, do comedy, host game shows, do movies, etc. He's a game show host loyal and true.

I bet he is.

He should just hold his peace, though. I'm hoping another game show opportunity(preferrably something away from the Fremantle umbrella) comes his way.

He will do fine.

This is much ado about nothing.

I do not see ratings falling at all...I predict they will stay as is for the most part.

I can see him being a success.

HOWEVER TPIR should stay as it is, keep the same sets and games. No pimping it and modernizing it when Drew comes on. Screw with the format and the show will sink no matter who is hosting.

I was watching "The Early Show" (I know, how unchic; anyway) and Drew was basically BASHING TPIR ON LIVE TELEVISION. Saying how at first he thought it was a crappy offer and he said no "in 10 seconds." According to DC, CBS had to woo him to do it. He had to talk to a friend, find out how HUGE the show was, to understand why 'going' daytime is okay, in this case. I was rather shocked by his bluntness. He's cool with it now, but he sounded off on his first impression.

Which is what makes me believe he won't stay past the five year(or however many years he signed up) deal.

CBS's best option would have been to hire a cheaper game show vet who could give them the longevity PRICE needs. Drew's not gonna do that.

This season, TPIR is going on the road, ala WHEEL and JEOPARDY! Again. getting lots of mixed reactions from the fans.

My biggest fear is that the ratings will go down so far and fast that the show will have a showcase dedicated to different toasters/
