DAYS: You were raped? Eh, who cares?

I so agree.

I'm not asking that the rape be swept under the rug. I wish they would tackle it and deal with it head-on!

Today's show was ample evidence that they have no plans to do that. Hogan is treating the crime as nothing more than a 2 second plot device with no long-term impact on the character: Elvis raped Sami. Elvis said sorry. Proceed to next plot point.

I agree.

Anytime I bash the writing, though, I'm a villain and a negative nellie! LoL

I have never heard one person say this rape storyline was a good idea. It was a mistake, a huge mistake, and one that needs to be dealt with by the characters involved. Any relationship between Sami and EJ needs to develop slowly and the rape must be dealt with. However, this is a show fighting for its life right now, and the chemistry between Sweeney and Scott can't be ignored. IMO, the writers would be crazy not to explore a pairing of these two. In real life would we be clamoring for Sami to forgive EJ and become friends, maybe lovers? Absolutely not. But this is a soap, not real life. If it represented real life, the Friday cliffhanger would be something like who ate the last piece of pizza from the fridge or is it going to rain Saturday and ruin my son's graduation party.

I'm not asking that the rape be swept under the rug. I wish they would tackle it and deal with it head-on! The way they've dealt with it thus far has been rather disappointing.

If they could take Luke and Laura from rape to a supercouple, I'm sure that EJ can be redeemed, as well. Look at Sami! That girl's a rapist, herself... she's a fan favorite! Look at Jack Deveraux -- another rapist turned hero. This is a soap opera, and anything is possible. I don't celebrate the rape, but I do see it as a giant mistake in the story. I wish it hadn't happened, but it did. I'm not going to let that destroy the fact that there's major possibility with the chemistry between Sweeney and Scott, though. Writing mistakes can be mended, always. Again, look at Luke/Laura and Jack Deveraux, or rapist Sami Brady, herself.

I agree, Kenny. If written properly, I could buy it. But the way it's written now, I can't. It's like the rape is an after thought. Nobody cares about it. Like you said, they should tackle the situation head on.

For those long time viewers, how did they redeem Luke Spencer? How did they redeem Jack Deveraux? How did they redeem Jake McKinnon? All 3 rapists later turned into fan favorites. What's their story?

Eh, Laura's rape was rewritten or glossed over for years until the 90's. In fact, Laura once referred to the incident as "seduction", which was beyond lame.

Yes I agree with you there. That was disgusting.

Sami raped Austin...and nothing legally was done about it...Billie raped Bo...and nothing was done about it. Are we REALLY that suprised.

The argument that a female HW would have socially revisted this is ignorance and speculation.

If Jack, Sami on DAYS and Luke on GH all can be redeemed from their acts of rape against other people, why can't EJ?

I still don't see the thing as rape, but that's my own personal opinion on the action. However, what EJ did was wrong, in the essence that he would pretty much allow Lucas to die had Sami not slept with him. And I agree that the issue was written horribly wrong. It was like the "rape" took about 3 weeks of Sami being scared of EJ, but then that was it. It was pretty much forgotten and it's now like Sami accidentally slept with EJ and that's how she became pregnant. That's how the family reacted to it today when it came up in conversation.

"Oh Sami, you should've chosen your actions better and not slept with a DiMera, you silly goose..."

<_<

Now I'm a huge EJAMI fan and I want the couple together in the end. That does not mean that I think that the incident should be forgotten. I think Sami and EJ have a lot to evaluate before anything turns romantic. I hope that is what happens.

You're right, and this is the wrong way to write this story. Even with the rewrites that had to be done quicikly, the writers needed to spend more time dealing with the rape. They have blown it big-time, mostly because the rape happened in the first place and secondly by sweeping it under the rug.

Well in the case of Luke, like Y&R said in an earlier post, they just ignored it for years until about 16-17 years after the incident.

Yes, and all of those things are forgotten and forgiven.

However, let a male rape a female and suddenly it's unforgivable? Double standards, damn it! LoL

Well, you're forgetting Kenny, in the soap world, a woman cannot rape a man. It's called "manipulating them into bed." <_< Whatever!

Bravo!

Couldn't have said it better myself.

That works for me.

I'm all for an EJ/Sami romance, and I will not let a storytelling misstep prevent it from happening--no matter how many posters tell me it's sick. Sami has raped people before (Austin); she's shot people, hurt people, lied to people... all sorts of horrible things. She didn't deserve it. But she is also strong enough to get over it. And if EJ is somehow redeemed, I'm all for it.

It is irrational, and I would not support this type of action in real life, but... Well, but nothing! I don't need to justify my feelings. I want it. :P

Exactly. First of all, believe it or not, there are victims of rape in real life who support the fictional couple of EJ and Sami. One of them I have seen post how she didn't get a chance to make a bargain with her rapist so she hates seeing Sami use that word for it in the first place.

I personally have HATED the rape storyline ever since I first got wind of it through the spoilers, thought it was rape when it happened because EJ did have the gun when they went through the roadblock but after rewatching the clip since then on YouTube and given how cavalier the writers have treated the incident in writing Sami's emotional response to the rape itself in the rape aftermath I came to view it as more of an indecent proposal/emotional blackmail/sextortion than straight up rape. If they weren't going to write Sami's reaction to it to be similar to what it was the first time we saw her raped then they never should have brought that word into the storyline. But they did. And they had EJ admit to Sami it was rape. So it's rape, I guess. Whatever.

To me, them going this route is them acknowledging what a mistake that storyline was and them taking steps to fix it. I am glad they are doing this. It is not like Days is the first soap to do something like this... I'm not just talking supercouples like Luke and Laura. Hell look at Miguel and Kay on passions. IIRC Kay raped Miguel to create their child and Miguel fell in love with her. It's not right but it's not the first time this has happened.

If Sami was my friend in real life, I wouldn't want her to fall in love with her rapist OR the man who framed her for a murder he committed sending her to death row/drove drunk and almost killed their child, but those are Sami's only options for a love life so it's hard for me to get my moral outrage up about this.

"I celebrate the chemistry, not the rape."
