DAYS: May Sweeps

I really don't see anything bad here. First off, everyone is always complaining about there being too many spoilers for Days and Corday is being vague here. I think that is good. He isn't giving away much and that means we can at least be surprised at some stuff. I also didn't expect him to give as much because it's clear changes were made and they probably weren't prepared for a full sweeps preview. I am just happy we got something unlike February. It's obvious they changed alot because now John is waking up in May and we were hearing June.

The only bad I see is that Hogan is still not talking and Willow isn't gone, which isn't all bad because of the newbies she has been around the longest and Hogan created her before all the problems. It sounds like we may get Willow/Max. I also like the idea of Abby being off for summer. I would like to see her return in Fall. Plus, Corday mentioned an umbrella story featuring THE WHOLE CAST. What else do people want? Sure, it seems Hope may be left out a bit on the Bo/Shawn/Belle stuff but who cares? She will get in on the action soon enough and it seems like better balance to me. Steve/Kayla seem like they are getting exciting as well. I personally could care less if Chick/Willow/Max get loads of airtime as long as the vets do as well and it seems like they will.

I am surprised by all the negativity to this around the net. Corday didn't say anything that really pissed me off other then a few minor things, which isn't too bad. I know I am always a optimist but I can't see bad here. Hell, the Celeste stuff sounds intriguing as hell.

Perhaps some people like seeing Jack come home to Jennifer, only to have Jennifer be a phony and him be quickly tossed back in a castle. I for one love these May sweeps previews, especially the one that involves the whole cast. These look great. And I can't wait for Judi to return, this time as Adrienne.

I'm guessing Gabby kidnaps Claire, and shelle will call Bo to help them...

I'm thankful john comes out of the coma, its about damm time...And at least the wedding will take up a big portion of the month..and we know Hope is at the wedding, so she can't be on the island..

Sami/Lucas/E.J.: Is she finally gonna get married? Is EJ gonna spill the beans? Sami's torn...flipping out! Is it Lucas's child or not? She doesn't know. A lot of excitement at the wedding.

Nothing new here. I hope we get something huge for May. I hope Corday's just staying tight-lipped and theres more to this storyline in May instead of the usual Sami/Celeste/EJ plotting and babbling.

John/Marlena: He comes out of the coma. Wonderful reunion. He has a lot of catching up to do.

It's about damn time! :D

Shawn/Belle: They're trying to get back home for Sami's wedding. They realize they've done the wrong thing [the island] by this child [Claire]." Claire will be in harm's way again.

Please, please, please get these three back to Salem by May! I'm glad to see Bo winds up on the island. And Claire faces danger again? And Shawn and Belle are the responsible parents, correct? Had they just done what the courts wanted, Philip would have her now and she'd perfectly safe from all harm.

Bo/Hope: Bo is instrumental in trying to save S/B/C. He goes to the island. Patch may try to stop this from happening. Hope is home with the baby.

I don't like BOPE that much, but I hate when they turn them into a domestic couple. This is what they did when JT was born. Hope turned into the housewife. That's not who Hope is. I understand that she just had Ciara and wants to spend time with her, but Hope needs adventure too. Give the baby to Doug and Julie or Grandpa Shawn and Caroline. Act like you never did it before!

Steve/Kayla: Desperation time. Steve seems to be on a mission of evil. Kayla can't stop him.

This is May sweeps? It seems like this has been the storyline since November? Nothing new here.

Nick/Chelsea/Abby/Max/Willow: Abby is gone for the summer. Gonna go see dad and mom in Europe. Maybe she'll be back in the fall. Lots more air-time for Nick and Chelsea, Max and Willow. WIll Willow get caught in her own devious plot? Yep.

As sad as it is to see Abby going away for the summer, I'm so happy there's no recast. Hopefully, Ashley will change her mind come fall and return to the role. :D And Willow's coming between my MABBY? Not so bad because Abby won't actually be there. Willow's still here! :D:P

Celeste: "Celeste is the first indication trigger of a huge story for this summer. Her appearance to EJ foreshadows the reappearance of Tony and a very large umbrella story for the entire cast."

This is about the only thing that excites me. The fact that the whole cast is supposedly involved tickles me.

Adrienne's Return: Back May 1. She's instrumental to getting to Patch in the institution and helping him get out. What she doesn't know and what Kayla finds out is that he's still a loose cannon, "wrongly wired and on a mission"

Okay? Am I supposed to be excited for this?

John coming out of the coma is long overdue. Thank the heavens!

Hope staying home with the baby is actually considered a preview? The preview is that she'll have nothing to do! What a crock.

More airtime for the newbies? Is it even possible for them to have more airtime?

Meanwhile, I'm loving the usage of Celeste, so that much is good.

Sounds like we're in for another ho-hum sweeps period.

My thoughts exactly one all of that!

Boy, am I glad I didn't put the Willow Tree to rest when that speculated rumor came out that Annie Burgstede was leaving the show. :D

The Willow Tree's growing strong! Believe me, I just came in from watering it. ;):P

Sami/Lucas wedding, beginning of Dimera resurgence (I know you aren't big on it but still), Shelle getting home (which I see happening based off this), Adrienne/Steve/Kayla and Steve somehow crossing over to the Shelle story...how is this ho-hum?

Look at the characters you just listed as the 'big stories.'

Sami/Lucas.

Steve/Kayla.

Shawn/Belle.

And don't forget more airtime for the youngsters!

That says it all. In other words, May Sweeps will still be a continuation of the imbalance that plagues the show.

They could have these characters written by William Shakespeare himself and I'd still be annoyed, simply because of the fact that I'm ready for others to have stories. I love all the characters mentioned above, but unfortunately to me they represent the lack of balance, and I'm ready for them to take a seat on the backburner. Having them in 'the big stories' for May is no different than January, February, March or April. I don't want to hear sh!t about Sami and Lucas or Shawn and Belle until I hear that we're going to have fabulous stories for John/Marlena, Bo/Hope and others, first.

At the beginning of the year, Corday said that "Hogan has really hit his stride." A few weeks later, the ratings hit new lows. Corday over-sells everything. May will be no different, IMO. What sounds exciting on paper ends up completely lackluster and sh!tty on screen. Sami and Lucas's wedding will probably have five attendees -- how 'exciting!'

By the way Kenny, I see what you are saying. I want better too and I am hopeful, as always, that we will get it.

My issue is that these spoilers should not be used as a basis for what exactly we actually get. There just isn't enough here to pick apart and be negative or excited abotu. That is my point. The initial reactions were already tilting towards the month being a failure (mostly on other boards but hints here too) and that is what kind of bugs me. Until we see anything play out and until we know more details, I think it's unfair to jump all over the show for what we know about May. For one thing, we were told we would see the changes in May. This did not mean that all of a sudden the show was going to be perfect. That means they had to tie things up in an effort to change gears to where they said they are going to go. I think, once again, people expected things to happen all of a sudden on May 1 when it's probably going to be one of those things that gets better the more deeper we get into May so that by June all the new stuff is airing with the right people.

I always preach the wait until you see it approach because often times what you read is different then what you see. These spoilers are so vague that you just can't get a read on alot of them. It's not like the spoilers we get every week in the mags which are detailed and more capable of being judged but even those you have to see executed first before condemning because it could end up totally different onscreen.

I think you're going to be right. The first day of the wedding, everyone will be in attendance. Caroline, Hope, Chelsea, Marlena and Kayla will give Sami her presents and all the family and friends will be there to take their seats as Sami is seen at the end of the church with Roman. The show will end. Come the next day, Sami will start walking down the aisle, but Grandpa Shawn and Caroline will be gone. Marlena will be gone. Hope will be in the bridal room taking care of Ciara. Nothing new.

Y'know, I agree with you in some ways. There are some people who will hate Days no matter what, but by the same token, there are some people who will eat whatever crap is churned out. When the show deserves its praise, the naysayers annoy me. But when the show is falling flat? I can't help but jump on their bandwagon.

In December, the show was fantastic. I loved it... and I praised it numerous times on this board and on several other forums. I'm a Days fan, and when it deserves praise, I'll praise it. Right now, though? I need to see familiarity, and I need balance -- neither of which I'm getting. It's no different than the other shows backburnering their veteran characters in favor of younger, cheaper newbies. Why is it a no-no for those shows, but we're supposed to overlook it on Days?

I've watched this show since 1993/1994, loyally. I think that by now, I've earned the right to have an opinion. Yes, there are people out there who would write the show fifteen times worse than the way it's being written right now, but does that mean I'm supposed to praise the lackluster writing just for fear that they could bring in someone worse? That gives the viewers no options! It's like the executive producer saying, "You'd better watch and love this, or else we're going to start writing stuff even worse!" Gee, that's going to keep me watching.

I want a great show. Not an 'okay' show, and not a 'decent' show... I want it to be the best that it can be. And if it were the best that it can be right now, I'd be right in your corner, wondering why the hell everyone was so negative. Unfortunately, though, the show's far from brilliant (at the moment) and we loyal viewers have every right to want better.

Awesome post, Kenny. :)

And really, these sweeps do sound incredibly boring.

More of Sami worrying about the father of her baby... EJ threatening to spill the beans... Sami worrying... EJ threatening... move along!

Steve on a mission of evil and Kayla can't seem to stop him? January, meet May!

Claire in harm's way again? Can't they create some sort of drama and conflict involving Shawn and Belle that doesn't involve Claire's bi-weekly 'oh my God our baby is gonna die!' scare?

And I still can't get over the "Hope will sit her ass at home with nothing to do" preview, LoL. God, Corday, you frickin' idiot!

Maybe but I doubt it. That was mostly under JER. Usually under every other writer, the majority of the attendents stay but we'll see. I know Alice won't be there and that's sad :(

I can't wait until May. That is when we will truly know how good things are. Then things can truly be judged.

I so agree although I do think Hogan's silence is unnerving.

I don't see much to get excited about either except John waking up, Shelle and Steve/Kayla seeming like it's getting more exciting, and Celeste and the big umbrella story. My point was there isn't even enough here to get negative about. People always said days gives out too many spoilers and now they get vague and people still complain (and I am not singling out SON, it's the general reaction I have seen). That is my point. Let's remember too that the show had to change course so it's likely at the time of this interview Corday didn't have alot there to say and had to be vague. I like it as there is a surprise factor coming. We know airtime is coming for the vets because we know certain people have to be at the wedding. Corday is a liar and an idiot but the guy's ass is on the line.

Again, this isn't about my usual optimism. I don't expect anyone to shout from the rooftops over these because I certainly am not going to. All I am saying is if people had said "Well, this isn't much to be excited about. I hope it's better then it sounds" or "I will wait and see it play out" or something like that I would understand it. I see the point but it's the way people already dismissed May based on a set of vague spoilers when we know it's going to be more then what we are reading.

I do think it was stupid to mention the Max/Willow/Chelsea/Nick stuff but I honestly don't mind seeing them onscreen alot as long as others are on just as much. The Hope thing is nothing to be upset about. Yes, they could've had her go with Bo but that is being petty. She will be around in the big umbrella story and in Sami's wedding and we know there is Horton stuff coming. I think Corday mentioning her staying home was stupid though.

I said my piece. I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. I just don't like seeing people condemn something based on vague spoilers and before even seeing the month play out. That didn't necessarily happen here but I guess I let myself get caught up in other boards before posting this morning

The 'lots more airtime' for Nick and Chelsea and Willow is what frustrates me. I love Nick, and Chelsea is redeemed, but Willow sucks. I really don't want to see any of them as often as they've been shown. The lack of balance when it comes to airtime is what has caused the ratings to slide as it is. If things continue this way, I won't be inclined to tune in again, and I'm sure people who quit watching probably feel the same.

I know you'll watch whatever is put out there by Days, but that's not the case with everyone. I hope they do improve the balance in May. We're going to have some great actors back, and the storyline sounds like it could be compelling--if we actually get to see it in decent chunks of airtime and not just snippets crowded between Nick/Chelsea/Willow/Gabby/Belle/Shawn time.

Nobody knows exactly how this will pan out until the show actually airs. Everyone has their opinion of how it might be, but we'll just have to wait. I sincerely hope they shift the airtime back to the way it was in December. I'd like to start watching again, but if things don't improve, I've got better things to do with my time.

I'm just so damn excited that Willow's still mentioned in May. :D :D :D

And she's involved with Max? AHH! :D What should it be? Hmm, MALLOW or WAX? lol

I watch Days no matter what but that doesn't mean I always like what I see. I have bashed it a few times under Hogan but never do a I go and totally bash spoilers because I like to wait and see how something unfolds first. I was very unhappy under JER. I still watched but it was out of loyalty. The show could and should be much better and I know they have issus. My simple point was that there isn't enough given here to be negative about but whatever. To each their own.

Thank you for your post Phoenix! I've been surprised at how often I can read the 'Prevuze one day in advance blog' and think how boring the next day's episode sounds only to be pleasantly surprised the next day. I have to attribute it to the wonderful talent of the cast. IMO they manage to bring to life what seems lackluster in print.
