Y&R: Ideas & Thoughts On Reaching Greatness (Latham/Hamner: Improve Y&R)

I agree Venus, I mean Jana has potential if you ask me. She could be connected to Brad's story, Carmen's past or even Sheila. Lynn still allows her to just serve javas. And yeah people wishing the show to be cancelled are and never were true fans of the show if you ask me. That's just my opinion. Just because ONE character you adored was not treated rtight does not mean the show is a lost cause.

Under Latham/Hamner, Jill has been dumbed down the most, while Victoria has undergone the most severe character assassination. She was the character who smacked her own father, the mighty & powerful Victor Newman! Now, she puts up with Brad/George's crap. All Y&R writers & producers should enroll in a PhD in The Young And The Restless. Dr. Lynn Marie Latham, anyone? :)

Y&R revolutionized the entire concept of the "soap opera" when it debuted. The show focused on lighting, directing & production values that set it apart from other dramas & changed the genre forever. William J. Bell & his Y&R team created a unique & engaging balance of style & substance since the show's inception.

Y&R once again revolutionized the genre by shifting its focus in the 80s away from its original core characters (The Fosters & Brooks clan) to an entirely new set, particularly younger ones (the Abbott, Williams & Newman clan, among others). In the 90s, Y&R continued to introduce interesting, new characters (the Barber, Winters, Dennison, McNeil clan, among others) while maintaining the consistency of its vision & storylines. It wasn't until this decade that Y&R began to falter in maintaining its rich quality under the guidance of Kay Alden, Trent Jones, and most recently, the hit & miss, John F. Smith. It rebounded during the 2003-2004 years under JF Smith, and the majority of 2006 with the arrival of a new head writer, the controversial & divisive Lynn Marie Latham, known by her staunch critics as Hack Marie Latham or Lynn Marie Hackam.

Being the most watched American daytime drama since the 1988-1989 season is a remarkable feat. Episodes in the early 90s frequently garnered in excess of 9 million viewers. In fact, Y&R holds the record as the daytime drama with the longest-running span at #1. ATWT ranks in 2nd place, followed by GH in 3rd.

I firmly believe that with unwavering passion, dedication, skilled talent & a stronger work ethic, the Y&R team can reach new heights of greatness. Another golden age is attainable.

    • When the announcement was first made, I did wonder if other plans were in the works. I guess we can always keep hoping, especially as the show has a small core cast.
    • @chrismlAbout Lisa, agree to disagree. Actually at the time she was the only thing my partner & I disagreed about. Naturally she was Team Vicky while I was steadfast as Team Lisa.  About John & twin paternity, I think that like the 3 pillows was a transitory idea someone had that no one else agreed with. More of the attempt to accommodate Philece. About MJ, co-sign, 100% agree, if there were more degrees I would claim them. About Wally & Felicia, always a fan. Mitch? Eh, take or leave. Although I do agree that WGE is a really striking man. Who have I left out? I don't know so that's all I got.

    • Dallas peaked early, IMO. Maybe not a fair statement as I’m still making my way through the first half of its run, but I think it’s hard to argue to point that S3 into S4 was its high point. Back to Knots. Wrapping up “And Never Brought to Mind.” Greg’s introduction kinda took me by surprise. I low-key dreaded his arrival bc I know he very quickly gets to the center of the show, but even though they wasted no time connecting him with Mac, Abby, Gary, and Karen, it still feels like a gradual intro. The juxtaposition of the ending of the Chip story with the heating up Abby’s plotting is quite symbolic of the changes the show was going through. I absolutely cannot imagine Kenny and Ginger having any part in any of this. Yall, the Gary/Val piano theme that they pull out from time to time is my FAVORITE. I find myself humming it constantly.
    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.

    • Yeah when Jamey Giddens did breakdowns for DAYS, he would sometimes state in tweets that specific things were his idea that he had pitched to Ron.
    • I don't, since they've clearly incorporated them into Tomas' storyline, and I happen to like his tattoos, but his jackets not fitting doesn't mean they're trying to cover his tattoos. The clothing overall isn't the issue; it's the fit. And I expect(ed) more from Jeresa Featherstone and her team. Very disappointed. He's the only male, overall, whose costume irritates me.
    • "And OMG, watching the scenes of Roger's return in comparison...the quality in the writing really nosedived. The stupid mask." Very much agreed.  Having Roger hide behind a mask for weeks/months, with it culminating with him swinging in on a vine at Blake/Phillip's wedding....geez.  So juvenile. IMO, Guiding Light never did a good job reintroducing major characters, either from the dead or elsewhere.  Masked balls = awful.  Amish = awful. When Reva was brought back from the dead, she should've just showed up in Springfield as Reva, and informed everyone that she had been gone for years because she felt like it.  She had a four-year fling with some dude who ended up dumping her due to disloyalty. Josh would be pissed and declare that their love is not *always* but *sometimes* and he'd act accordingly.  Her kids would hate her.
