Members JER Soaps Fan
I wouldn't want thousands of people to lose their jobs, Kenny. I'm thinking more along the lines of having NBC be stuck in an eternally low-rated but respectable position. In other words, they'd get the "niche" audience but NOT the big numbers in any part of the day. Think, just above The CW in the Nielsens, lol. What do you think, God? Should we let 'em rate just below ABC? Huh, should we, Lord? Oh, this is going to be SWEET. Like a crazy "Passions" character's attitude toward his or her victim, I'm going to RELISH ruining NBC through the power of prayer.
Members JER Soaps Fan
King, I'll give NBC a shot. First, I'll pray for "Passions" to get renewed and for JER to get a clue. And second, well, did I not already mention that I'll only start my prayerful war against NBC until AFTER we see a cancellation notice come down the wires? Members JER Soaps Fan
Because having TWO strong soaps -- "Passions" and "Days" -- would mean more eyeballs because word would get around, and that translates into $$. Sorry, guys, but NBC clearly was happy with the 2's "Passions" had before. THAT is why it kept getting renewed. "Sunset Beach" never had such consistency and promise in the ratings as "Passions" had in its heyday. Just imagine what kind of ratings potential the show would have if JER actually kept all those elements that reach out potentially diverse audiences (with supernatural, multigenerational stories, camp and serious drama), AND wrote good, fast story. That would translate to success, or at least bring the show back to the ratings it had when NBC wasn't such a deuche about the show, and clearly supported it full-throttle. "Days" is on the rise with Hogan, and I think it only makes sense to keep a two-soap network and encourage two soaps to be on the rise.
Members Mason
I see your point, but even so, the network should have little to no say in the creative decisions of its soaps. That's what the HW is for, and JER clearly hasn't been cutting it the last year and a half. Of course NBC wants both its shows to perform well, but they shouldn't have to make cancellation threats to the HW to get quality (not that it's been working so far anyway). Quality is expected, and when it's not delivered, the ratings naturally will go down. And that's nobody's fault but the person in charge of the storylines, and in this case, that most certainly lies on JER.
Members JER Soaps Fan
Oh, pin a rose on JER's nose! If we lose this INCREDIBLE soap opera because of James E. Reilly, frankly, I think all the show's viewers have grounds to sue him for screwing up what many "Passions" fans believe to be one of the best soaps with the greatest potential in the history of daytime. That man has screwed up the show in some ways. Don't get me wrong, I'm still entertained, but this dragging EVERYTHING out for a goal of what must be more than eight years; starting new stories to distract fans from realizing that old stories are dropped; and making character so stupid they should be legally dead is just RIDICULOUS! I mean, come ON! Rebecca and Gwen were RIGHT BESIDE Ethan in the church at Chad and Whitney's wedding when they started talking in whispers about JT Cornell and his blackmail against Gwen. On WHAT PLANET can someone sitting RIGHT BESIDE BOTH OF THEM not freaking hear what the other person is saying?!!! ETHAN IS AN IDIOT!!!! AND JER IS AN IDIOT FOR DOING THIS!!! Oh, my God. I totally digressed. My point was, God, what was my point...oh, yeah. There is incredible potential in this show and I seriously will find it a CRIME if this show is canceled -- with the guilty party being one James E. Reilly, the man I once held as a ROLE MODEL. I just can't believe he will have ruined this show's potential beyond repair or hope. That's why I must hold OUT hope that the net isn't so stupid to let JER get his way and get the show canceled. God, maybe there is some legal loophole we don't know about to oust JER from the headwriting position? I don't know. Something MUST happen to save this show. Members jadestar
I've heard it all now. You're going to pray for the demise of a network just because NBC cancels Passions. There are a lot more people watching other shows on NBC than will ever watch Passions so I don't think the cancellation of Passions deserves hoping for the demise of NBC. I bet NBC will be better off if it rids itself of JER and Passions since Passions has shown itself to not be enough people's cup of tea to warrant its staying on the air. Members Mitchapalooza
I totally agree. Hell even DAYS OF OUR LIVES supernatural era was WAY better than PASSIONS ever was!! The problem is not necessarily PASSIONS identity or what the show is supposed to be about, it is the blatantly POOR writing and acting the holds the show back. PASSIONS can still be campy, funny and make fun of themselves WITH a new headwriter, one that can do it correctly and knows how to take advantage of a good cast and good writers. JER is NOT that headwriter...as far as I am concerned he is DONE in daytime!!
Members nassaunew
Passions is still doing well in key demos (last week's ratings), but is it enough for NBC to renew it. Maybe the ship has sailed
