Is Passions being cancelled?

The networks don't listen to anyone who's raving mad. If you were to call a comment line and just start screaming, "I'll never watch this network gain if....!!" they would immediately press DELETE and move on to the next message. They want intelligent, thought-out points of view. Something that they can follow.

I think that JSF has an interesting idea, but I'm not sure that a big banner saying "BOYCOTT NBC" is the best way to go. Of course, it would also have to be something that spreaded further than just this board.

Ugh. The chances of NBC listening are highly unlikely. They've never listened before -- why now?

I just really wouldn't blame NBC for cancelling Passions. I really wouldn't. I don't WANT them to, but I wouldn't blame them.

It's been nearly 8 YEARS. It's still at the bottom of the pack. Something has to be done, and JER obviously isn't rushing to make any changes. So, apparently, NBC is.

I disagree, Kenny. "Passions" has, more than any other soap thanks to that 2.9 you mentioned, its instant marketability and great demos, not to mention its unique characters, EXCELLENT potential. Perhaps the most of any soap other than "Days." It has the ability to rise, the audience is there, the potential is there. NBC should realize that potential and harness it by forcing JER into a renewal. If the show can get a co-head writer and if the net can dictate pacing and storyline shifts (but not story), then the show can be fine and the ratings will soar, as they showed signs of doing back in 2000. The potential IS there. That's why the net stuck with the show. JER's the only problem.

Then you obviously have never been hit on by a total psychopath.

No, but I have been hit biking on a cycle path. Does that count?

NBC is losing money on PSNS. That's the bottom line.

It's had potential for seven years.

It hasnt' capitalized on that potential in four years.

Completely agreed. But JER isn't building on that. He's not using Passions marketability in a good way. He's not doing anything in a good way. It's had potential for YEARS, but if the headwriter doesn't utilize the potential... what can they do?

Sure, NBC could go to Reilly and say, "Do this and do that to get your ratings up or we'll cancel you." But who's to say that they haven't ALREADY DONE THAT? If he got a warning 6 months ago... well, it sounds like that's EXACTLY what they did. And Reilly ignored it. He won't have someone telling him what to write on his own show. Never in a million years. And they can't fire him from his own show. So, the only thing they have left to do is cancel. And it sounds to me like he really doesn't give a damn, as long as he can go out knowing he did exactly what HE wanted.

The only thing this thread is missing is you, Gabe.

We could use some scoop so we can get back to the topic at hand.

As for banners, I agree with King. We need to emphasize the point to NBC that Passions needs JER out or major changes made if it is too remain. That kind of thing should be in the banner.

That point is mentioned numerous times throughout this thread. that's why we need someone with connections to contact the RIGHT people at NBC to review this thread and see the fans' loyalty, pleas and requests regarding JER's involvement with the show.

Once again, I don't get why people are saying we shouldn't be anti-NBC. I believe you can't be nice to a net that wants to cancel your show because then they see you're complacent about their programming and they'll view you as sheep.

The net will not be angry with my campaign. They do things or don't do things, renew, greenlight and cancel projects on a whim. Emotions aren't involved. That's why you talk to them where it HURTS. Their advertising dollars. Being anti-NBC (or threatening to be) IS the best way to deal with this particular dilemma. This is TV, not child's play. Money talks.

Exactly. There is ways of making a point and they are more likely to listen if you don't come off as irrational and deranged  . I mean, the banners don't come off as that but I do think NBC is more likely to listen to a much calmer approach.

Passions does have potential but it has been squandered and who knows if the fans will even come back if it should stay. JER is killing his own creation, most likely because of his ego, and it's disgusting. he has so many chances and so has Passions. If it should remain, the time has come for HUGE changes.

Come now, King, you can't prove that. Especially with the Cyworld/Tabloid Truth and other online ventures that clearly are financial successes for the network. No one knows BUT NBC how much money the show makes for it. Unless someone can show me where they published this information in Variety or some other trade magazine, because I haven't seen it. With the amount of product placement in the show that "Passions" employs and their online ventures to streamline revenues, I don't believe the show is LOSING money. I just don't buy that. I believe this fourth hour of "Today" means the net can give less effort to GET the money, and it will probably be more than what it earns from Passions, but I disagree that the show is losing money.

I guess that's my ideal situation if JER actually cares about the show. If he does, and he's over his pettiness over the "Days" firing, the net can renew the show and require more involvement, dictatorship over pacing and story vetoes, etc. I believe that would be ideal. JER clearly needs help.

LoL, what product is going to pay big bucks for product placement on a show that nobody watches?

Look, I don't want Passions to get cancelled. For different reasons than you, but still... I don't want it cancelled.

I'm just saying that I wouldn't blame NBC if they did.

The fact that NBC is considering cancelling it is proof.

JSF, the online ventures are probably one of the few things the show has going for it. The demos are ok but the HH suck. Passions can't rely on the online ventures and ok demos alone. King is right, it is losing money. It would probably be losing more if not for the online stuff.

The smart business move here is cancelling PSNS.

And that is why campaigns will do NOTHING to save the show.

NBC knows the show has fans. It's not going to surprise them when the show's fans are mad about this. They know there are PSNS fans out there........they want more. It's not going to get more. It hasn't gotten more. It's lost. And that's why it's getting cancelled.

I have to agree with King and Kenny. Obviously, if the show were still a financial success for NBC, they wouldn't even be considering cancelling/replacing it. That's just common sense, so I really don't see the point of this particular debate.
