Members Rhiannon
Actress/Singer unhappy with second version of Dolly Parton's '9 to 5' The Associated Press NEW YORK - Unhappy with her second try at paying tribute to Dolly Parton for the "Kennedy Center Honors," Jessica Simpson has pulled out of the show. Simpson drew unwanted attention earlier this month when she flubbed the words to Parton's "9 to 5" during a taping of the annual show, grew flustered and fled the stage. Producers gave her a second chance at the song. But after Simpson saw a tape, she requested the second attempt be pulled from the show, which airs Dec. 26 on CBS. "She really wasn't happy with her performance and she did want it to be perfect for Dolly, who she idolizes," said Cindi Berger, a spokeswoman for Simpson. Besides Parton, the Washington, D.C., tribute honors Andrew Lloyd Webber, Zubin Mehta, Smokey Robinson and Steven Spielberg. Caroline Kennedy is the host. "We appreciate the time and energy Ms. Simpson put into this event and respect the high standards she has for herself and that of the Kennedy Center Honors," said George Stevens Jr., show producer. Members Sweet_VeeVee24
I do feel bad for her....I chalk it up to a bad cause of nerves....She was doing this song for someone she idolized and she got nervous....I can understand why she wanted to pull out
Members Meredith
I thought she lost her voice a few months ago. She should stick to those little acting gigs if she can't sing anymore.
Members R!ck
Now I wonder who is going to tribute Dolly?
Members crc
According to an article in the papers today (Scripps Howard News Service), Dolly Parton's portion of the KCH tribute will include a testimony given by Reese Witherspoon on Parton as a pioneer and friend, and Kenny Rogers and Carrie Underwood will cover "Islands in the Stream." Hopefully, there was more or they found someone at the last minute to add to her tribute, because there's usually more than that per honeree. Shania Twain and Reba McIntire were also in the promos, so perhaps they're also a part of her tribute.
Members KLN
Jessica Simpson can't sing, anyway. If she's horrible on a regular basis, I'd hate to see how bad THIS performance was!
Members Bree
She sings like she's getting a rectal exam done. Seriously, she sounds like she's in pain. I don't know how anyone can find that entertaining.
Members KLN
Oh, I so agree. And I don't like the turkey neck thing she does when she's singing. It's like she throws her head forward... it LOOKS as if she's about to fall over in pain, but nope... she's just doing the turkey neck.
Members Rhonda37138
ITA that she can't sing her way out of a paper bag. I admire the girl for recognizing that her performance wasn't good. That couldn't have been easy to do.
