That's the million dollar question that no one knows the answer too, and no one knows the answer to why Higley hasn't been fired either.

I would want Clare Labine and her son on AMC but anyone at this point would be okay. I think Beth Milstein should be hired to do OLTL, but again at this point anyone would be fine. And I think Jack Smith would be great at GH.

Who has been AMC best head writer and what were the ratings at the start of MMT's tenure

Agnes Nixon of course was the best writer ever for both OLTL or AMC. Second to her on AMC was Wisner Washam & then Lorraine Broderick. As to OLTL, I loved Gordon Russell (I think that was his name) tenure on the show, and Michael Malone's first tenure was great too. Also Clare Labine did a great job.

At GH, their best writers have been Douglas Marland followed by Clare Labine's stint. I also loved Pat Falken Smith's run on the show too.

I have to agree ^^^

If we have to pick from the incestuous pool of soap head writers, I think the best replacement AMC head writing team would be Claire Labine, Matt Labine and Eleanor Mancusi.

But last I heard, Claire Labine and ABC had some bad blood. That's the rumor, don't know if it's true.

I can't honestly speak on Wisner Washam (even though I know that was AMC's golden age, but I didn't watch back then. A bit toooo young lol!), since my AMC viewership dates from:

- Margaret DePriest

to

- Megan McTavish

to

- Lorraine Broderick

to

- Megan McTavish

to

- Agnes Nixon

- Elizabeth Page

- Jean Passanante

to

- Agnes Nixon

- Jean Passanante

to

- Jean Passanante

to

- Jean Passanante

- Michael Conforti

to

- Richard Culliton

to

- Gordon Rayfield

to

- Gordon Rayfield

- Anna Theresa Cascio

to

- Megan McTavish

I consider Lorraine Broderick's stint AMC's Renaissance Period of Nixon and Washam's Golden Age of the 70's and 80's. Rayfield and Cascio gave the show a sense of humor and wit, I believe which was sorely missing since Broderick left.

I believe Gordon Russell is dead. I did not look it up but my memory of it is that he is dead. And I may have him confused with someone else as I did not look at my facts, but the period I am thinking about is what I refer to as the Karen Wolek years. I loved OLTL during those years.

As to Agnes, she sold both shows to ABC so I am sure there is nothing she can do about it. And I think ABC is beyond caring enough to let her step back in or let her.

I just think Jack Smith should be given a try at GH. He was hit and miss at Y&R but I think his style would work good there.

I'm not Steve...but I really loved Jack Smith and he did a lot of action-packed stories (Sheila vs. Lauren, Nick going after Daniel, Daniel and Lily on the run...). He made Sheila a very big (almost cartoon) villain which would probably work more on GH (ie Helena or Manny).

Psycho Fan explained it very well. I could not add any more to that. I just know as a head writer he didn't fit at Y&R
