Ricky Gervais to guest star on the U.S. version of "The Office"

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Just as everyone is just about done talking about Ricky Gervais and his Golden Globes celebrity tongue lashing, he’s going to be back on NBC for a very cool cameo on “The Office.”

That’s right. The UK’s “Office” David Brent, a role originated by Gervais, and Steve Carell’s Michael Scott are going to meet before Scott makes his final departure from Dunder-Mifflin.

According to Vulture, Gervais shot a secret cameo for an upcoming episode, scheduled to air on January 27th.

“It’s a little more than if you blink, you’ll miss it, but if you don’t set your TiVo right, you’ll miss it,” “Office” show-runner Paul Lieberstein said.

But while you’d think it was just shot recently during his preparations for the Golden Globes, the cameo was shot all the way back in September of last year and it’s been kept a secret since then. In fact, NBC didn’t know about it for a while.

But it was something they had wanted to do to commemorate Carell’s last year on the hit Thursday night comedy.

“Ricky had wanted to do something [with the U.S. "Office"] and it felt like we shouldn’t go the whole series without them connecting,” Lieberstein said.

NBC’s Thursday night comedy schedule expands to three full hours beginning January 20th when, along with a new episode of “The Office,” “30 Rock,” “Parks & Recreation,” “Community,” “Outsourced,” and “Perfect Couples” premiere new episodes as well.

Michael Scott, exit stage right.

Steve Carell is officially no longer an employee of Dunder Mifflin after completing his last day of shooting on "The Office," the sitcom he starred in for seven legendary seasons. Co-star (and show sidekick) Rainn Wilson broke the news to the world when he tweeted, "Steve Carell's last day on 'The Office.' And the angels of comedy wept... #saddest day ever."

Carell announced in June that he would be leaving the series, and since July, when the the series' producers said that that the show would go on, the public has wondered since who will replace his awkward but lovable Michael Scott as boss.

Carell is actually leaving the series with a few episodes to go in the season, to better break in the new boss, though the public still doesn't know who it will be. Carell's friend Will Ferrell will make a four episode guest appearance through the end of the season, though, unfortunately, he won't be the permanent replacement.

Series executive producer Ricky Gervais, who created the original "The Office" show in England, has suggested that star Will Arnett should join the show, though he never directly said as Carell's replacement.

The proposal was so good! I was perfect for Michael/Holly. I couldn't stop smiling when Michael started the "This is where...." and then the Yoda voices at the end. And I loved that the entire cast was included in the lead up to the proposal. What an amazing and romantic moment - one of the best proposals I've ever seen.

Also loved the Dallas game - "That's Dallas!" :lol:

Jim/Dwight and the magic beans was another rivalry classic. :lol:

Got caught in downpour couple weeks ago brought on a respiratory coughing problem - got put on meds - didn't get out today with awful weather being stuck in - re-watched some of 'The Office' I recorded- still at laugh the 'PDA' episode - miss Steve.

      This better be something, because as I said, so far it's just cliches and stereotypes -- the story we've heard a thousand times about the homeless person who doesn't want a home and prefers to live on the streets.

      @rsclassicfanforever thank you very much for the recent uploads of season 13 containing some episodes that were skipped or glitchy on YouTube!  I had a look at 3172 though and there is no audio for most of it? Would you have a copy with complete audio? Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

      I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

        I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.

      I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.

      I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.

      Yassss....come on Maurice and Brandon...give us nothing!!! Wow, their need to develop their craft shone like a blinding light this episode. Brandon in his Martin and Smitty scenes sounded like he was reading and the facial expressions were giving Disney Channel. He did much better against Maurice in the Martin v Ted scenes. Now, Teddd-dyy (Dana's voice) was just flat. I watched the episode just now after reading the comment on here that Maurice needs to stop swaying, and now I can't unsee it. Has it really been this bad all along?  Ambyr carries. I don't need to say anymore. I am kind of excited to see this Kat/Tomas/Eva stuff play out.  Bill is such a dick to Dani. Like that's the mother of your children that you cheated on with your daughter's best friend but you look to take those low blows. Lord! When he said that thing about it being obvious he didn't care about Dani anymore since he was the one that walked out...that was cold. I even felt for Dani. Bill definitely is all over the spectrum. You can see a villain possibly surfacing, but you also see this great father. The elder Duprees move a little funny. I'm wondering what that is all about. Are they just overly protective matriarch and patriarch because they think it's what's best for their family, or are they afraid their secrets will come out or there's something more sinister there. Why would Vernon want to keep that information from Martin?  I hope something interesting comes out of this June stuff, but as of right now, I'm not too invested. It's not helping my interest on Naomi or Jacob either. However, tge actress playing Naomi has comes a long way from day one.
