BTG: First-ever role recast!
Yeah, I think they want this to be a more... nuanced. Not necessarily that Ted is an awful person, but also that Silkpress isn't entirely in the wrong. I suspect they felt like he might've either played it too one-sided (ie Silkpress Sheila is in the wrong, Ted is a honest nice man) OR that he just ends up playing it like two different characters. I suspect he might've not found that balance - I guess we've still got eight more weeks to judge him on, so we'll see. He wasn't the first person I'd choose to recast at this moment, but I do think the green newbies are improving and clearly Ted's storyline is front-and-center right now, so that might've made them more inclined to recast.

DAYS: Janet Spellman-Drucker Retiring | Noel Maxam New Co-EP
I don't think Corday would ever sell, but it'd be nice if they could get Sony out of the picture.

BTG: First-ever role recast!
It's obvious that they want Ted to be "complex" and not entirely in the right with how he treated Silkpress Sheila, but also not necessarily a bad guy against Nicole and their marriage (as they were going through troubles). I think they might've thought Maurice played it too black and white and seemed like two different characters depending on who he played against. But I haven't watched this weeks episodes of BtG so my hunch might be wrong.

Well, that was a short run for Drucker. I don't see much changes taking place under Maxam, but maybe he'll surprise us.

ARTICLE: ‘The Young and the Restless’ Holds Firm, ‘Beyond the Gates’ & ‘General Hospital’ Tied Among Women 18-49 Rating
I wouldn't really pay too much attention to their press releases. Yes, it's nice if they can be number one in their time slot, but ultimately networks tend to look at their entire line up and how to improve that. That's why we heard about those changes at GMA3 the other week rather than them trying to revamp General Hospital. @DRW50 is right in that sense. ABC's biggest concern for now is GMA3, especially since that show has zero afterlife in streaming (which, while not highly profitable at the moment, is the market that'll grow). Winning the time slot would be nice, but ultimately, they can still sell ad at higher rates than they can for GMA3.

BTG: March 2025 Discussion Thread
It hadn't. I thought that the last conversation Vernon and Martin had about it at Nicole's award ceremony kind of established that he knew what it was, but not that it happened when he was in Congress. The easiest guess at hand is that he was involved with whatever happened to Silkpress Sheila's husband/partner, which of course means he's at fault for her coming back into Ted's life...

BTG: First-ever role recast!
Well, we'll just have to wait and see? The truth is that I don't think Maurice Johnson has done badly in the role so far, but he's also far from a breakout star. He's ok. But we simply do not know how things will look at the end of the first 13 episode cycle - the green newbies could've started outpacing him for all we know and he might've been given more complex material than he's gotten so far that he couldn't portray to their satisfaction. I mean, we'll just have to wait at this point and see if there's something that Keith D Robinson brings out in Ted that just isn't present in Maurice Johnson's portrayal. As has been speculated - maybe he just simply made Ted too sympathetic, thus the entire revenge saga with Silkpress Sheila just ended up entirely one-sided.

BTG: First-ever role recast!
No offense to the work Errol, Toups and everyone else puts into this board, but we count as "the few" as this is a fairly niche soap opera message board. Add that Keith D Robinson has quite a resume - and no disrespect against Maurice Johnson - but it wouldn't surprise me if he does well and even better in the role.

Knots Landing
Well, the reason they wrote her off was because they had a budget crunch, like a lot of aging shows. They simply had to cut some veteran players to make the budget work and her becoming secondary to Greg just left her vulnerable to being written out, same with Lillimae who was just a talk-to at that point. It wasn't because Laura was complicated - it was because Constance was paid a lot more than she was used. I can't honestly say that if I had been a producer faced with budget cuts that I would've chosen different characters to cut.

Knots Landing
The issue is that Laura had become secondary to Greg in their marriage. I think the last time Laura really mattered a lot was in season 5 when they started taking her in a more "grey" direction, which would've been an interesting balance and bridge between Karen / Val and Abby. Unfortunately, excluding her from the season 5 cliffhanger could be seen as a sign of diminished importance. Also, the fact that they never let Jason age along with Olivia, Eric and Michael is telling.

BTG: First-ever role recast!
Sunset Beach has a better example - Ashley Hamilton originated the role of Cole and played him for about a month before being replaced with Eddie Cibrian. Ultimately... they let Maurice go after the first 13 week cycle. Why that happened we do not know. Apparently it wasn't that he wasn't getting along with Duplaix or his choice (per his social media posts). I'd assume they simply had a different direction in mind for Ted and didn't feel like Maurice could pull it off.
