  1. I doubt that any episodes are online from 1975 or 1976 with Robert Perault. As I recall, when Mr. Perault came to the show as Jeff (returning from California), several of the characters mentioned that they did not know who he would react when he met Betsy Kinnecott because Betsy resembled Mary Kinnecott Martin, R. N. so much. (In actuality, the actresses Susan Blanchard and Carla Dragonini looked NOTHING alike). With those mentions, it appeared to me that Mona was wanting to get Erica and Jeff back together. (I think that this was just after it was revealed that she and Mark were half-siblings, but Mark may have not been introduced yet.) I seem to remember that Jeff too was having good memories of their marriage. There may be some episodes from the time that Erica was trying to get Jeff (James O'Sullivan) to testify in a tribunal in order to help her get that marriage annulled.
  2. In the One Life to Live opening in the above clip, who is the young man whose picture follows Tina, Max, Megan, and Cassie in the second grouping?
  3. Mr. Pritchett appeared as Bruce Elliott on As the World Turns and as Jeff Nichols on The Secret Storm. On The Doctors, he appeared as a businessman when the episodes were self-contained stories. When the character of Matt was created, he was asked to play him. He was on the show for the entire run. After the cancellation of The Doctors, he was on an episode of Guiding Light.
  4. Which of the Archie Bunker's Place co-stars?
  5. I remember her in the role of Mildred Foss. She became the housekeeper who was in cahoots with Ray Fulmer's character. I think that the character died. I forget how, but a fall down a flight of stairs comes to my mind. I also remember that Mildred held a gun toward Dr. Sara McIntyre.
  6. The amount of time between the taping and the airing of the show has been mentioned. One possible reason could be that The Doctors, at one point, taped shows on Saturday for most of the year and then the cast had a month or two hiatus in the summertime. The performers could travel to other cities to concentrate on stage work or could perform television or movie roles during the break. I know that this practice was done in the early 1970s. I don't know when it started, but it could have been a practice as early as 1967.
  7. I am thinking that the theatre group headed by Jim Dedrickson used the Whitney Theatre as its headquarters.
  8. I think that it was when each episode was a self-contained story.
  9. When Jeff returned to Pine Valley around 1975 or 1976, he was being played by Robert Perault. Initally, there was a lot of talk between Jeff and Mona. Mona seemed to wish that the two could get back together. Then, later, when James O'Sullivan was playing the role, Jeff had fallen or was falling in love with Christina and Erica was trying to marry Tom in the Roman Catholic Church. Jeff and Erica had quite a few scenes together, but they were definitely not in love by that time.
  10. A few other performers who were on The Doctors and are still alive are: Hillary B. Smith John Pankow Nancy Stafford Jean LeClerk Mark Goddard Jane Badler Dorian LoPinto Ashby Adams Ian Zierling Julia Duffy James Storm Tuck Mulligan Louise Lasser Thor Fields James Douglas Donna Drake Meg Myles Leslie Ray Mark Andrews Richard Borg Michael J. Stark Christopher Norris Lois Smith Patrick Horgan Carla Dragoni James Noble Nancy Barrett Gil Gerard Anna Stewart Armand Assante Chandler Hill Harben Jonathan Frakes Carol Potter Valerie Mahaffey Valerie Harper Kathy Bates Alec Baldwin Nicholas Walker Nana Vistor
  11. I watched the show above. I wondered about the music. Does anyone know who scored it? Could the composer possibly have been Robert Costello? Bethel Leslie reminded me of Eileen Letchworth (Love of Life, All My Children). I wonder if she was considered for the role of Althea when Ms. Leslie departed the show? For many years, I had not known that Terry Kiser had been on another soap opera prior to The Secret Storm. I am seeing him here, and this role seems to be more dramatic than that of Sean on The Secret Storm (that I remember). It is good to see Jim Pritchett here. I remember him well from Bruce on As the World Turns, and it is interesting to see what he did after he left that role.
  12. One of the writers of The Brighter Day, Sam Hall, died on September 26. He later wrote for Dark Shadows, One Life to Live, and Another World.
  13. Former headwriter Sam Hall has passed away.
  14. Sam Hall, one of the show's writers, has died. Death came yesterday (September 27).
  15. Paul Joynt was more than ten years younger than the actress who played his mother, but not very much more than ten years.
  16. I loved Lori Cardille when she was on The Edge of Night. She later played a role on Ryan's Hope, but I did not see her all that much on Ryan's Hope. I also must say that I HATED Stephanie Braxton as Winter on The Edge of Night. I like the actress, but her portrayal was too different from that of Lori Cardille. It was revealed that Winter was truly guilty, I think, after Ms. Braxton assumed the role. (Please correct me on that if I am wrong.) The character not only looked and acted differently, but it seems to me that she was written differently. It should be noted that Winter was in love with Miles, and Stephanie Braxton and Joel Crothers had played a married couple on The Secret Storm. Also, Winter had murdered Wade Meacham. Stephanie Braxton and Dan Hamilton were married in real life. Was the final acting role for Stephanie Braxton on the ABC primetime series King's Cross? May I add that I thought that Lori Cardille and Joe Lambie (Logan) made a perfect couple in my mind? At some point on the show when Joe Lambie was playing Logan (probably when he was dating Winter), Logan had a secretary named Maggie. Robin Groves played the role. I loved Ms. Groves, and I wish that the show had expanded her character.
  17. Didn't Agnes Nixon write for Victoria Wyndham when they worked at The Guiding Light on CBS?
  18. Was this before or after Doris Quinlan was the producer of The Doctors? I had heard that she hired Kathy Glass to be on the show, and her name is in the credits.
  19. I had not known that Allan Melvin had appeared on a soap opera, or was even based in New York at one time.
  20. Probably because the actor had been so popular on One Life to Live.
  21. I think that ending the Dillon family's storyline was a huge mistake for All My Children. I liked Laurel (as played by the second actress; I did not like the original), but her death was a very interesting development. But writing off Trevor (although I know that the actor wanted more money to continue to play him) was stupid. There should have been a recast, although that actor would be difficult to replace. 22. I feel that Erip Torpey and Yorlin Madera were such a lovely couple. I hated David Fumero in the role of Cristian!
  23. In the very beginning, it was stated that Jack and Jillian were old friends. I cannot remember, but I am thinking that it was said that they had dated but had realized that they were not for each other.
  24. It is correct that the late Christopher Wines was the original Jeff Martin. He had changed his name to Christopher Lofton later in his life. Jeff was his second soap opera role. He had earlier played Marty Dillman on The Guiding Light. In between his soap opera roles, he toured with some played on the Red Barn circuit in the South. He came here to Mississippi, and the Red Barn Theatre here was very close to the Jackson Yacht Club. The Haining family with three daughters were very active members there. The three daughters were Carol, Alice, and the youngest whose name I have forgotten. He was a big influence on middle daughter, who was interested in theatre and communication. (The mother worked with deaf children, I believe.) Anyway, she became a local actress and then moved to New York. I have heard that he would suggest her to casting directors and agents. He was cast in roles on Search for Tomorrow, Loving, and One LIfe to Live. After those roles, she played Liza Colby #2 before the character was written out (This is when Liza began having a crush on Dr. Cliff Warner) and she was hired to be on As the World Turns as Angel. Mr. Wines, who, as I stated, changed back to his birth name of Christopher Lofton, became a screenwriter (most television movies).
  25. Sandy Gabriel played Martha on Ryan's Hope before the character of Edna was introduced on All My Children. Tovah Feldshuh played the role in the early weeks of the show. Jeff returned to Pine Valley around 1976. Robert Perrault played the role. Jeff, at that time, seemed close to Mona and, seemingly, may have been trying to get Erica back. However, the other characters were afraid that when he saw Betsy Kinnecott, she would remind him of Mary and depress him. Mr. Perrault was quickly replaced by James O'Sullivan. Mr. O'Sullivan bore a strong resemblance to Charles Frank (Jeff #2, who is the Jeff that most people remember). The storyline that Jeff would fall for Betsy was dropped. While James O'Sullivan was playing Jeff, his storylines were that he fell in love with Christina, he testified on Erica's behalf at her annulment hearing even though he detested Erica, and he and Christina left Pine Valley to move to California. Jeffrey Byron later played Jeff when he returned from California as a divorced man. This was right after he had played Richard Abbott on One Life to Live, and the show had not been too happy with his performances and the character of Richard had become engaged to his first cousin. I personally believe that the character of Jeff was supposed to be connected somehow to the baby adoption ring. Actor Denny Albee appeared on the show about the same time, and I think that perhaps Denny was supposed to play Jeff, but that Jeffrey Byron had a contract with ABC (and his mother did also), so it was decided to cast Mr. Byron in the role. Jeff and Angie were then paired. A new producer (Stephen Schenkel) was hired, and I think that this pairing was his doing. He was the executive producer for only about a year. It seems that any character other than Jesse who would be paired with Angie would not be accepted and written off, which I why I was shocked later when Peter Bergman (Dr. Cliff Warner) was so surprised when he was written off the show after Cliff and Angie were paired. Then, after Jeffrey Byron was written off, actor Robert Tripp played Jeff for a few weeks. (I think his name was Robert Tripp, but I know that if that is not correct, it was similar.) Mr. Tripp was not even under contract to the show but was on recurring status. The only thing that I remember about him is that he and Tad were in a restaurant and Jeff asked Tad (who had recently divorced Hillary) how he would feel if Jeff started seeing her. The show was obviously headed to a Jeff-Hillary-Tad triange. However, Mr. Tripp was not put on contract and the character of Jeff moved to California for a third time. Then, when Erica had the dream about Erica: The Movie, Charles Frank was again playing Jeff. He made two appearences. Later, Jeff returned from California for the third time, and John James (Search for Tomorrow) was playing him. His storyline was that the child that he and Erica had conceived had not been aborted, as everyone had thought. The character was later dropped without explanation.
