Young Doctor Malone
Yes, the picture of Dianna Hyland above is terrible! I wonder if her character was bad. She played ministers' wives both in the movie A Man Called Peter and on the primetime serial Peyton Place.

I wonder if Carol Irwin worked on any other soap operas?

Young Doctor Malone
And, both original stars of the ABC prime time show Eight Is Enough (Dick Van Patten and Diana Hyland) both appeared on Young Doctor Malone and were re-united on Eight Is Enough. That show, as many produced by Lorimer, was produced by many former soap opera executives who hired much of the soap opera talent which had immigrated west.

I am sure that the First Ladies specials must exist somewhere. I imagine that the afternoon school specials also exist. ABC ran ninety-minute drama specials, and I would love to see those.

I don't recall hearing that Stephanie Braxton was wanted as a new Mary. I don't think that she would have been good in the role, unless the writers were going to change the character of Mary. I did hear that Pamela Toll (The Doctors, Somerset) had read for the role and was wonderful. I think that the reason that she was not hired was the issue of money.

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
If I am not mistaken, Patricia Hodges may have played a saleslady. However, I may be confusing her with Talia Elg or Caroline Lagerfelt. It may have been the soap opera Loving, and I am confusing the two.

to Slick Jones: Didn't Patricia Hodges play a day role on The Edge of Night when it was on ABC?

I believe that Burt Convey played the role on Love of Life before he auditioned for the role of Barnabas on Dark Shadows in 1967.

Slick, my information is that she played Nellie Shayne on the show in 1986. I seem to remember that someone told me that she was an airplane passenger. Do you know anything about David Canary's role on the show? Also, Geoffrey Lumb and Ernest Graves?

All My Children Tribute Thread
As I recall, Dr. Lynn Carson (Donna Pescow) was Bonnie McFadden's pediatrician who was also a lesbian. I loved Devon! She is one of my favorite All My Children characters! There is a Progressive Insurance commercial in which customers are greeted by Flo and are very suprised to see her. Right after Flo greets the little baby, a woman with long hair is seen smiling. She strongly resembles Trisha Pursley, who played Devon.

I don't think that the departure of Ms. Mathis was as disturbing as the departure of Mr. Areants.

Texas! Discussion Thread
I don't remember characters named Robin, Stephen, Laura, or Michael. Did she created the character of R. J. Gannon? (I don't think that she did) I do remember that Claire Labine tried to give R. J. more to do. Did she create R. J. Gannon. I think that he was probably already on the show, but I cannot remember who created him. I do remember that Claire Labine, as headwriter, tried to involve him in more scenes and storylines.

I had thought when Pamela Long was hired as headwriter for One Life to Live that it would be wonderful. I had heard that she wrote well for male characters. I was terribly disappointed, and I am glad now to know that network interference may have been why! I loved her primetime show Second Noah.

Their shows seemed to have used the theatre as backgrounds for their stories. Concerning Miss Marlowe was about an actress, and From These Roots had the late Barbara Berjer playing an actress.

Love of Life Discussion Thread
Who is Kay Alden? Frank Provo and John Pickard were writers who wrote a lot for NBC shows. They created and wrote Concerning Miss Marlow and then created and wrote From These Roots, which was a Procter and Gamble show that aired on NBC. The Procter and Gamble Company learned that these two men were in a romantic relationship, so Provo and Pickard were dismissed from the show. After that, they wrote scripts for The Doctors on NBC and were hired by Roy Winsor to write Love of Life. I think there are on-line pictures of their home that can be Googled. Their shows seemed to have used the theatre as backgrounds for their stories. Concerning Miss Marlowe was about an actress, and From These Roots had the late Barbara Berjer playing an actress. I don't know anything about their storylines for The Doctors (which was probably still an anthology series at that time) or Love of Life. I also have temporarily forgotten who became the new headwriters of From These Roots after their dismissal. Of all the shows that I have never seen, the one that I am most curious about and would love to see is From These Roots. I seem to enjoy serials which are set in New England (Dark Shadows and Return to Peyton Place are the other two that I know of.).
