  1. I believe that Carolyn Coates is the wife of actor James Noble (As the World Turns, The Doctors, A World Apart). I did not know that William Prince had appeared on Where the Heart Is.
  2. Ellen Holly never said in her book that she was offered any other role by Agnes Nixon. Lillian Hayman, upon learning that her role was over on One Life to Live, contacted Agnes Nixon. Ms. Nixon reportedly told her that she had nothing to do with One Life to Live any longer. She offered Ms. Hayman a role on Loving. It was the Minnie Madden role. The actress who was cast in the role eventually (Louise Stubbs) told in interviews that she had auditioned for the role, then the show suddenly was waiting for some other actress to join the cast, the other actress decided not to take the role, and then she was cast so suddenly that she barely had time to get back to New York from a theatrical job to play Minnie. I don't remember if the role on Loving was to be Sadie or the newly created character of Minnie. Ms. Hayman, by the way, was said to have forgiven Paul Rauch and ABC for the firing, as she was a church-going woman.
  3. This was AFTER the success of Saturday Night Fever, the film in which Ms. Gorney had appeared.
  4. I really liked Lisa Sloan as Nicole. She was my favorite actress in the role. I strongly disliked to the point of hate seeing Jayne Bentzen in the role.
  5. Ross Petty, who is mentioned above as having auditioned for Dr. Jeff Martin on All My Children, later played Eddie Dorance on the show (briefly).
  6. No, I have tried to remember myself. The bags seemed to be another version of the Everything Bag for which Suzanna Glidden advertised.
  7. I guess that NBC thought that these directives might save The Doctors.
  8. I remember the commercials. I would love to see the Ann Flood commercials for the purses! Earlier in th 1960s, she had advertised for Good Seasons salad dressings.
  9. I really liked Steve Rankin when he was on All My Children.
  10. I think that Art Wallace (who mostly created Dark Shadows and was its first writer) was also a story consultant during that time. Also, Mary Harris, who had worked with Agnes Nixon on Another World, was also an uncredited story consultant.
  11. Could you take some screencaps of Jo Henderson?
  12. Was Matthew Greene the brother of the actress who appeared on How to Survive a Marriage and who created the role of Sally on Another World?
  13. The clip from Love Is a Many Splendored Thing was visual - not audio only. I did not know who played the role, but whoever showed it to me said that it was Gertrude Warner. I never knew the name of the mother of Jock. Was it Alex? Also, I meant to post this earlier. Martha Greenhouse (Ryan's Hope) created the role of Sarah Hanley on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. Then, Sasha von Schuler (All My Children) played the role for the much longer amount of time.
  14. Tom should have been a recurring character on One Life to Live when Skye moved to Llanview. He would have served as a confidante to her. I had always thought that Tom was probably a player for the Cougers, the football team on which Alec Lownes played and that Asa Buchanan owned.
  15. My understanding was that another actress played Jock's mother on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. I remember John Karlen on the show, but I don't think that I ever saw his mother. I saw a clip of the show which had her. I did not know who the actress was, but I was told that she was an actress who had been on As the World Turns. I am not denying that Ms. Farrand played the role, but the person who told me about this was viewing another actress or was wrong about the identification.
  16. I can remember a scene with Ceara and Adam Chandler. It seems as though the show was trying to decide who would be the best male actor with whom to pair Ceara. I thought that she and Adam had great chemistry.
  17. There was an earlier post about Maria on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. The actress who played her, Lisa Sarafin, later replaced Diane Dell as Lisa Britton on The Secret Storm. Also, Jock Porter's mother was also seen on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. She may have been on one of the lists above, but I did not see her. I cannot remember the name of the actress right now, but the actress had played Claire on As the World Turns.
  18. On The Doctors, I did not see the Jo Henderson episode either, but I was told about it on a post on danfling's cancelled soap opera messageboard. I also understand that the actress who played Enid Nelson on All My Children was on an episode. I have seen these people on The Doctors: Faith Catlin (Ryan's Hope), Paul Michael Glaser (Love of Life, Love Is a Many Splendored Thing), Mel Boudrot (All My Children), and Bernard Barrow (The Edge of Night, The Secret Storm, Ryan's Hope, Loving).
  19. Jill Andre also appeared on The Guiding Light as Dr. Sara McIntyre #2, on As the World Turns as Sandy McGuire Hughes #2, and on All My Children as a cellmate of Kelly Cole when Kelly was on trial for murder.
  20. Slick had a question about the name of an actress who appeared on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing. Her name is Avis McCarther. She was a model who appeared on the cover of Ebony magazine. She decided that she wished to begin an acting career, and this role on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing was one of her early roles. Later, Lisa Wilkinson, who had created the role of Nancy Grant on All My Children, decided to leave the show, and Avis McCarther was her replacement. Then, a few months later, Ms. Wilkinson returned to the role and played Nancy until the role was written off the show. (although Nancy did return for one of the anniversaries of All My Children)
  21. Speaking of marriages, I would have loved (after the show did not renew the contract of Lee Meriweather as Ruth and Mary Fickett told that she was no longer interested in the role) to see a widowed Dr. Joe Martin and Mary Smythe get married. I too lament that so many characters were not on the show. Especially Tom Cudahy.
  22. That may be true, DRW50. I think that Mary's storylines as a reporter may have been transferred to Elizabeth Jane Ryan (Maureen Garrett).
  23. I had not known that Roy Shumann had been on this show. I only knew him from As the World Turns,The Best of Everything, and Search for Tomorrow. I think that he was one of the best daytime actors (although I think that he was not good on Search for Tomorrrow because he was miscast).
  24. I disagree with Slick. I think that the show SHOULD have tried other actresses in the role. I happened to have liked Mary Carney as Mary. She had a different personality than Ms. Mulgrew; perhaps too different to be accepted. My favorite Mary was Kathleen Tolan. I adored her in the role. I did not like Nicholette Goulet, however. Although there are some performers in roles that I think are not replaceable, these, in my opinion, are very few. One role that I thought no one could play other than Philip Carey was Asa Buchanan on One Life to Live. Yet, one day, a replacement was needed. I thought that the replacement was excellent. I observe the problem that Ryan's Hope had in casting replacements. Many of these were good. (John Blazo for example) Sometimes the recasts on Ryan's Hope were not cast in the correct role, in my opinion. For example, Alexandra Neil would have been a better replacement for Nancy Feldman, in my opinion, than Nana Tucker. This just occurred to me. I cannot imangine why the role that Irving Allen Lee (Dr, Evan Cooper) played could not have been a recast Dr. Clem Moltrie.
  25. Also, Ryan's Hope wanted Frances Fisher (The Edge of Night, Guiding Light) to play Shiobhan when Marg Helgenburger left the role. I think that Stephanie Braxton was good as Tara Martin on All My Children, but I did not care for her at all as the recast Winter Austin on The Edge of Night. Lori Cardille was, in my opinion, unreplaceable in the role of Winter. I also did not like the character that Ms. Braxton played on The Secret Storm. I also preferred the original Laurie (Linda DeCoff) in the role. Laurie was "the other woman" who broke up the marriage of Ken and Jill. She was a neurotic concert pianist who rebelled against her father. Then, the writers changed Laurie - and I usually do not like it when that happens. I also did not like it when the All My Children writers changed Brooke into a sympathetic character. ' I could imagine Stephanie Braxton as a Janet Bergman on Search for Tomorrow.
