  1. Indeed - The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is being widely used in the UK, and is also in use in Canada and Mexico, as well as throughout Europe (with some countries pausing use while they investigate blood clots which were not found to be problematic in the US trials). Currently, the US has millions of AstraZeneca doses which it can't use because the FDA hasn't cleared it for use, so the Biden administration has generously made some of these doses available to Mexico (2.5 million) and Canada (1.5 million) before they expire.
  2. +1 - this is the latest DAYS has gone without a renewal announcement and the way things are currently, if they're cancelled they have more than enough time to wrap up their storylines neatly for September.
  3. @Cat @DRW50 @Gray Bunny @SFK @Bright Eyes @I Am A Swede @Taoboi Joan attended a small birthday party held for Liza Minnelli (everyone attending is fully vaccinated and therefore are in compliance with CDC guidelines). Joan is 88 in May. Liza is 75...
  4. My question is what's spurring on the new sets? 1. DAYS has yet to announce a renewal and as far as I know this is the latest the show has gone without a renewal announcement. 2. The existing sets were acceptable as is. Y&R and B&B have maintained so many of their sets for decades - what is the benefit for DAYS to spend money recreating existing sets when the show has struggled with its budget for years?
  5. NJ Tonight was such a perfect example of why I love this franchise. It had touches of drama, family, and humour. Key to this is the major role the husbands all take. When Bill was hauling Jennifer out of the party and the two Joe’s came to help him? I laughed so hard.
  6. I ask this seriously: where is the evidence that Prince Andrew is a pedophile? He has not been charged or convicted of anything. I’m not a fan of his, but everyone is entitled to due process under the law.
  7. Not a surprise at all. Anyone who'd believe Jax would walk away from a healthy paycheque mid-pandemic with a baby on the way is kidding themselves. I'm sure he's letting his non-compete run and then he and Brittney will do the usual post-Bravo marathon of second tier reality shows on WE and Lifetime in order to pay the rent. LVP is being smart with the transparency over the current status of the show as not being picked up (yet).
  8. Ugh. This is why I did not bother with continuing with RHOD after the first two episodes. It was pretty clear that Tiffany was going to be targeted and I could not stomach these ignorant women going after her. I don't watch Housewives to see so much ugliness reflected. Leanne was fired for racist behaviour, what of all of these women (sans D'Andra)?
  9. I really like the U Mask - it's very lightweight and the fabric is comfortable. Formula 1 uses them and I bought the McLaren team mask. It has a filter that's inserted and useable for 200 hours, and then is replaced.
  10. The Letters Patent of King George date back to 1917. They are the reason that Archie is not styled a Prince. The Queen had to issue her own Letter Patent when George was born to provide for William's children to have titles. None of the Queen's other great grandchildren have titles (Princess Eugenie and Princess Anne's children Peter and Zara all have untitled children) but because William's are in the direct order of succession, the Queen made an exception for them. Harry and Meghan lied about their security in Canada. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (the Canadian federal police agency) provided 24/7 protection to them while they lived on Vancouver Island fully at the expense of the Canadian taxpayer. However, that was provided under a mutual recognition arrangement with the UK's Metropolitan Police, so once the UK pulled their officers, the Canadian government advised Harry and Meghan that their police protection in Canada would end unless they paid for it privately. That is when they went to California. The only correction I'd make there is Harry inherited 10.5 million UK sterling from his mother when she died. That is equivalent to $27,000,000 USD in today's money.
  11. I wonder why this bombed? It was on the right network (CBS) and had the right kind of launch (2 hour movie event), with a generally well liked personality (Ann-Margret) produced by a prime time soap veteran (David Jacobs) - on paper it had all the ingredients. An episode of Good Sports is on YouTube. It is very obvious that Farrah displays a very easy, natural on-air charm that lent itself to a sitcom role. While she was certainly capable of leading a sitcom, I think the she would have been wonderful in an ensemble show. O'Neal was just awful and unlikeable. Faye Dunaway and O'Neal have something in common: they're unlikeable personalities and any light hearted or good natured performance rings absolutely false. The pace of sitcoms is such that the actor has to infuse a lot of themselves into the part - the 22 minutes of each episode doesn't lend much time to huge amounts of character exposition, so sometimes the personality of the performer is key to fleshing out parts of the character that the script doesn't. Alternatively, some actors just can't help but play themselves, especially in a fast paced production before a studio audience. And when that personality is unlikeable the result are disastrous.
  12. If Susan Banks is responsible for this promo masterpiece I say bring it on!
  13. AW aired in Canada before any other soap got onto a Canadian network (it is not uncommon for American soaps to switch Canadian networks over the years - AMC, for instance, aired on CBC, CTV, and CTV2 over the years).
  14. I cringed so hard during the Ruth story. She sounds like a scenery chewing nightmare!
  15. NJ I really don't comprehend how anyone is defending Teresa. If she's too stupid to understand an analogy, that's no one's problem but her own. She should get off TV and go to university and stop being so ignorant. Did Jackie totally blunder by saying Gia? Sure. Sloppy arguing. But Jackie clearly wanted Teresa to understand what it would feel like to have someone trash your family, so she cited the only family member Teresa has who is an adult (she could have said Milania...) since Joe is out of the picture. Teresa was, of course, in total denial saying she just heard a rumour but wasn't spreading it...meanwhile she was repeating it to every guest and cater waiter at the birthday party. Admittedly, my patience for truly dumb people like Teresa who revel in their stupidity has been worn away by the pandemic, so I may be viewing the situation overly harshly. On the whole the show feels fresh and fun. I concur with @Taoboi I think production has done a great job with filming the show.
  16. Wow, Brian Linehan was a Canadian broadcasting legend. It's a really great interview and Beverlee was in top form. So open and engaged. The financial details she states about the money soaps generated for their networks - incredible. It's interesting to hear that she was as friendly as it sounds with Victoria Wyndham. Meanwhile, her story about Ruth Warrick is hilarious and full of cringe. I hope @BetterForgotten sees this one.
  17. I think some of that comes with age. She seemed to avoid admitting that she had a lot of enemies in the Dynasty cast for decades and only in the last 5 or 10 years has she been really candid. I think once the CW rebooted Dynasty Joan knew she'd never play Alexis again, and could afford to be frank, since the likelihood of ever working with the cast again was over. She's been quite specific about who she was friendly with: John James, Diahann Carroll, Catherine Oxenberg, Emma Samms, and Jack Coleman top the list. I think she's been hurt over the years about some of Michael Nader's rather harmless comments which is sad because he has always seemed to adore her and grateful that she was instrumental in his casting. This. A million times this. There is a scene from Dynasty that's cited in the Biography episode of Joan Collins. In the scene Alexis shouts "I want my independence and I want a lover and I want a partner and I don't want to be suffocated by you!" I think that line perfectly encapsulated how Alexis viewed relationships. If anyone tried to control her or she perceived them as suffocating her, she was out of there.
  18. OLTL, ATWT and GL are the soaps that come to mind for me. Although I have appreciated specific performances in each of them, I never connected to the shows as a whole and never developed any sense of attachment to their communities.
  19. I think Y&R experienced such little turnover for so many years that it was a closed shop and after Bill Bell died, anyone new was going to be treated like an outsider because those who were from the Bell era probably saw every new cast member as an unwelcome interloper. She was awful on Y&R (but has been wonderful on DAYS)...
  20. THIS. I’d say we are right around 1997/1998 - the GL/Annie and DAYS/Kristen storylines can still generate some heat, and most of our beloved vets are still on contract at GH...but AW is about to be cancelled and the tide is turning. There is no doubt the zeitgeist is moving on from Housewives and I’d be working hard on new programming if I was at that network.
  21. This is the clip. It is a treat to watch all these years later. Both Jeanne and Jess are using the cue cards in this particular clip, but Jeanne used them all the time. It's also great to see the sets of the Newman Ranch and the Chancellor Mansion - interesting that they both appeared to be built 'square' - as in all right angles, which is more akin to shooting on location in an actual home, rather than the visual trickery of sets where the walls are all askew.
  22. Heather is much, much tougher than Lisa. Lisa is one of those women whose mouth writes cheques that her ass can’t cash. Not a great episode for Mary. Lots of getting caught up in dishonesty. Meredith did nothing all episode. Jen and Whitney were along for the ride.
  23. Christine is good TV in the sense that she's loathsome, at least on Bling Empire. That particular season would have been much better off with her than Carlton and/or Joyce (although I don't think Joyce got a fair shake)...BH has such a weird dynamic - even back then - I don't know how well Christine would have fared with the likes of Erotica Lame, Teddi, Rinna etc.
  24. So pleased for you - stay safe and well!
