Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I loved Marlo's Covid-19 protocol. She is a breath of fresh, hilarious, air. The RHOA premiere was a great episode. They rightly paid attention to everything relevant going on in the world. They put the real into the housewives franchise tonight. That laugh was worth everything. The fact of the matter is anything other than the result that happened between Candiace and Monique would have been an egregious waste of taxpayer money. Candiace can keep dabbing those crocodile tears with that tired triangle of tissue all she wants. She's a fake whose mouth writes cheques that her ass cannot cash. Monique said it: the legal system did its job and concluded it was a mutually consented to fight. Which is exactly what it was. Candiace loves challenging people to get into fights - she did in tonight's episode with Michael Darby. I loved Karen's line about Robyn: "Robyn don't get a lot of moments." What a great season of RHOP. I look forward to the reunion in a big way.

I think she was the best part of the show. I stopped watching when they killed her character off.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
SLC Coach Shah, where you at? Okay, I'm gonna have you turn, you're gonna see me I look like a flapper with cankles. What a great episode. There was drama and pettiness and hilarity. This show keeps giving me RHOV and Melbourne vibes - it doesn't feel like the rest of the American franchises. Meredith just glows. Talk about a beautiful woman. She looked incredible at Mary's luncheon. Whitney didn't have much to do this episode but she gave good commentary. Lisa I can see being useful to producers. She isn't afraid to mix it up, and probably when prompted by production for that matter. All that touching in the art gallery wore on my last nerve. Mary is a bit off the wall but I am liking her more and more as the show wears on. The luncheon was bizarre. Jenn. Oh my. She is parched from all that thirst. She just seems so wildly angry and crazy possessive. When her husband picked her up in that old Toyota...hmmm...whose paying for all that glam squad? Is their house rented? Seems like a deck of cards with her... Heather was the star of this episode for the quote above, as well as her longing for the lollipop chicken drumsticks and the command that her table was not to be cleared and that someone needed to guard her burger. So relatable. So real. What a legend.

POTOMAC Another winner of an episode. Gizelle: Face it. Your kids see Mr. Chocolate for what he is. They gave up on him a long time ago. You would be wise to do the same. That photoshoot was nearly tragic with how Gizelle was trying to spin it as being OK. Gizelle is such a hater against Karen's businesses, when her own Every Hue is liquidated...where did Karen's business come from, she ponders? From planning, quiet cultivation, and straightforward execution. Ashley: Messy! She tried it, but La Dame is slicker than she is. Wendy: Next. Candiace: She is trash. The victim act is a joke! Monique: Looking gorgeous and very Dominique Deveraux in that gorgeous coat at the wig party. She is smart and knows she has to keep hustling and keep aligned with Karen otherwise she's going to be totally ostracized. Robyn: Dumbass. Stop trying to play with the big leagues. She always looks so shocked when La Dame nukes her without thinking twice. Karen: Adore her. Karen is fun, goofy, and can gather her enemies and destroy them before getting into her SUV and booking it for dinner. Her wigs look high quality. She got the name and the packaging highlighted. And when Robyn tried her, she left her speechless with a flawless blow.

HBO: Industry
I've watched the first two and aside from being a bit shocked at the level of explicit sex onscreen (am I becoming a prude?) I thought it captured the London City scene perfectly. Having lived in the UK and with some friends in the industry, it rings very true.

HBO: Industry
Has anyone else seen this? It's a coproduction between HBO and BBC Two in the UK and is about 5 young graduates working at the same London investment bank. The first three episodes have aired and the remaining 5 were just release on HBO Max (and will continue to air on HBO as scheduled). Aside from some very explicit scenes, I think the show really captures the City scene.

SLC Jen remains incredibly thirsty. Like, get that woman a Gatorade. It's like she's playing a character of what she imagines a Real Housewife to be. That said...Brookes really overreacted. His statement that he felt uncomfortable was quizzical. What did Jen do that was so offensive? That made no sense. I do enjoy Meredith, however. She is gorgeous and reminds me of Elizabeth Hurley. I think Heather is well on her way to becoming an iconic housewife. Her discussion about whether she was ever in love and being perfect? So real. Loved Whitney's prohibition party. I liked the scenes of her at Mary's church and for that matter... I liked Mary's scenes with her grandpa/husband and their son. She is cooky. I wonder if there's something more sinister lurking. Lisa remains really cold and unlikeable as far as I'm concerned.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
THIS. So much this. Wendy is so grating and annoying. You would think Monique slashed Wendy across the face and scalped her with the way she beats a dead wig in this situation. Wendy is woefully ignorant about the law and woefully ignorant about how the legal process works. And if Ashley was getting her revenge...good for her. Me too. Monique, Ashley (of all people...) and Karen are the reasons to watch. They are able to balance out drama with fun. Gizelle constantly looks like she's producing, Robyn has her talking points all lined up, Candiace is...ugh....and Wendy is just irritating as all hell.

OMG - GET THEM, KAREN! That is some piping hot tea about Every Hue being liquidated and Robyn being a “hard 40 and looking every day of it”...something tells me the reunion was not a place for reconciliation.

OC I find it really boring and obviously set up and unreal. It is time to either end the franchise or recast entirely. SLC Jen. Whew, Jen. I echo many on the board regarding Jen. She is thirty and has clearly crafted a look and a character for the show. She wants to be Queen Bee. I don't really like her. She doesn't ring true to me. Mary seems like a nutjob, but a real nutjob. Her facial expressions at the dinner were hilarious. Lisa seems really mean and cold. I can't say I have a lot of time for that. And her tequila is top shelf liquor? Sweetheart, I have never heard of it. Meredith is like the warm, self aware version of Lisa. Her son is a legend in his own time and I look forward to episode 3. The dinner with her husband was so uncomfortable. They both seem to want it to work. Whitney impressed me in the second episode. She seemed like a ditz in the first episode and then in the second there was clearly so much more to her. And I liked what I saw. She's a decent, deep thinking, good hearted person. Heather is a hoot. Certainly my favourite because she's just relatable. She's all out of sh*ts to give and knows that Rossignol ski boots are going to make her look old. I laughed out loud at that.

NETFLIX: The Crown
Yes, Gillian Anderson is excellent, especially in episode 8. The relationship between the Queen and Thatcher is a subject of much fascination. I like that the writing did not shy away from them having moments of hatred. One thing is for certain: this season (especially episodes 9 and 10) is going to destroy the hard work Charles and Camilla have put into their public image over the last 20 years. The hypocrisy by which Charles appears to have conducted himself is shocking. This portrayal will canonize Diana, all over again. The only big letdown for me is that Sarah Ferguson is a minor character without any dialog this season. The actress they cast for her was physically excellent casting. Even if they'd just had that real life moment where Charles admonished Diana, saying "Why can't you be all jolly like Fergie?" that would have been something. Princess Anne is a standout in this season - she is equal parts biting and hilarious, as I suspect she is in real life.

NETFLIX: The Crown
I whipped through 5 episodes yesterday and it’s an excellent season. Far more gripping than Season 3. The casting of Lady Diana Spencer is so accurate it’s unnerving.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I'm a bit late this week... POTOMAC I'm enjoying their trip to Portugal and I am glad Karen raised the Jamal issue with Gizelle, who has been getting away with her sh*t for entirely too long. Candiace has burned through any goodwill I had left for her. I hope Monique came to that reunion with an Extreme Couponing level of receipts. Wendy remains intolerable. Her fixation on her own education shows that she is incredibly insecure as her degrees are her floatation device. That she put a 'button on it' and then 'unbuttoned' the issue at the lunch the next day was pathetic. OC If any of the women go after Braunwyn's son, they've asked for whatever blowback they get, and then some. That is just disgusting if that turns out to be true. It's a really boring season aside from Braunwyn's alcohol struggle and getting a peak into Elizabeth's lavish lifestyle (she has big Vicki energy) and I think the show should be looking at blowing out the cast and starting over. SLC A very good premiere episode. It has the natural beauty wintery element down pat. I wonder what Salt Lake City would look like filmed in summertime? The snow adds a lot to the visual charm. Jen is thirsty. Someone get that lady a drink of water. That isn't to say I don't enjoy her, but she's a housewives trope. Mary is very disturbing. She reminds me a lot of RHOV's Jody. Heather is probably the one I enjoy the most. She is Built Ford Tough and seems to have the best sense of humour. Lisa and Meredith feel very interchangeable to me. Brookes, Meredith's son, is a star right out of the gate. Whitney was smart to start the show in an honest place about how she met her husband and how she was cut out the Mormon Church. As a side note, if anyone has the chance to see Book of Mormon when live theatre returns, I highly recommend it!

The Politics Thread
It's so true. I am exhausted from these last 4 years. It has felt like the world was on the verge of collapse at every turn. And it still feels like that, but I have some hope now. Just being able to string a coherent sentence together already has Biden being a more accomplished president than Trump. Melania renegotiated her prenup, in her favour, in the time period between Trump being elected and when she finally moved into the White House, and she's part of the chorus that is telling Trump to accept that he has lost. She never wanted to be First Lady in the first place. That marriage is absolutely over, even if she never seeks a divorce. However, if she's stuck till he dies... Don is out and proud on his Instagram and he openly posts pictures of himself with his partner. Don's rise has been a bright spot of this otherwise horrendous administration. I like him a lot and I am sad for the pain he has had to endure simply for being who he is. He is a good person. Truly. Much of what has been done is unforgivable. And a thank you to Mary Trump. She, along with so many others, made dents in the Trump armour that undoubtedly impacted some people who might not otherwise have done the right thing when they went into the voting booth. Her book and the recordings of Trump's sister were important pieces of evidence that made the case for his moral obscenity. Credit to Bush, he is keeping this moving and keeping the smart Republicans focused on the TRUTH. I look forward to seeing him sitting next to Hillary Clinton at the next inauguration. This time, he won't have to say "That was some weird sh-t" after Biden's speech, as he did after Trump's. I love that ending for her.

Give him the Emmy. I know Romney is as opportunistic as any of them...but I wish there were more like him in the Republican Party. At least he can extend some decency. Europe, and the rest of the world, is breathing a sigh of relief. Far Right Nationalism must end. When you see that timeline of faces it is truly impactful. She has made history. Madam Vice President is no longer a role played by Glenn Close in Air Force 1 or Julia Louis Dreyfus in Veep.

As a Canadian, this is what concerns me most. The sheer mass volume of American citizens who voted for all of that when they had another choice is incredibly disturbing. That this election is as tight as it is, based on Trump's cult of personality, when he has been an absolute failure, is unbelievable to me. That white America did not do the right thing and vote his ass out hard is also very disappointing. I had hoped for better. This is not an election about differing views like McCain v. Obama or Bush v. Gore. This election is truly about good and moral vs. evil and corrupt. It is astounding to see how many people have aligned with Trump's malignancy.

What amazes me are the comments on the Variety article praising the show. I’m glad people enjoyed it but I struggled to get on board and still don’t enjoy it. And I love Kim Cattrall, so this one stings.

Demolish is truly the only word that sums it up. Wendy is a hypocrite and too high on her four degrees to see it. On the one hand she wants to be celebrated for her academic success - but then she wants to mock another woman for not having a degree. Based on the emails/screen grabs Monique has posted - Candiace’s lawyer was seeking major money from her (which is interesting because the Bravo contracts say they can’t sue each other) so Monique filing a complaint with the DA’s office was a smart move by Monique. It got the footage in there before the DA and we all know what happened to those charges. In effect, Monique exonerated herself once the DA said both were to blame. Indeed. I don’t like her one bit.

Can I also just say that I really think it is the height of pretension for someone who doesn’t provide care to patients (be they physician, dentist or psychologist) to refer to themselves as a doctor. Wendy is a doctor of philosophy. That is an incredible academic achievement, but that’s also what the post nominal letters Ph.D stand for. You don’t want a Ph.D attempting a tracheotomy.
