  1. Henderson Forsythe was 64 in that 81 ep and Linda Dano was 38 so quite an age difference. Meanwhile real life couple Larry Bryggman was 43 and Jacquie Shultz was 25. Funny how some people looked older back then. I imagine a 43 yr old in todays soaps would have a much more youthful appearance than Larry B.
  2. Days was in ratings and story trouble by the late 70's. The characters and stories that Bill Bell/PFS had written thru late 60's to mid 70's had been played out. Bill/Laura,Mickey/Maggie and Doug/Julie had been through the mill and were happily married but subsequent writers had to scramble to find story that kept them frontburner hence Bill/Kate, Laura going crazy.,Maggie the alcoholic,Julie being raped/ on trial for murder and burnt etc Also these characters were now in their 40's and in the case of Ed Mallory and John Clarke had not aged well. Susan Flannery and Denise Alexander were gone and Laura and Susan were damaged as a result. SORASING Mike and David worked short term but they were also married off too soon. So the thinking behind an overhaul was sound but the execution was off. Within a few months, characters were killed off, shipped out of town and disappeared while a bunch of newbies appeared. Had things played out more slowly and the new characters been more interesting things might have n=been different.
  3. That is a story I have read many times. Jane House I believe was the actress in question and had appeared nude in the play Lenny. But when Liz was killed off she was being played by Judith McGillan.
  4. Re Whitfield Connor Add Husband... The Working Mother NBC Special Dec 1960
  5. A comment on YouTube regarding an audio post states that Monday Dec 20 1971 was ep # 4072. Hope that helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQeML9MPy90
  6. Barry Lake was headwriter in August 1960. His wife Marge ? Margo? was an artist and he had an art exhibition written into the script and used her artwork. The episode aired on a Wednesday and the collection was shipped to New Hope PA by Thursday for her own exhibit.
  7. Re The Verdict Is Yours The show moved taping location from NY to Hollywood in June 1960. New set was introduced with viewers being told new courthouse was being used. Jim McKay worked for 3 weeks before leaving as he did not wish to relocate permanently. Cast for first LA case 'The Matter of Vail' Steve Brodie as irate ex husband/father suing for custody of 5 yr old daughter Cece Whitney as the ex wife/mother Ann O'Neal Sally Bliss Ray Barnes Barbara Bestar
  8. Thanks for continuing to post these. Surprised to see ATWT as the top rated CBS soap and #4 in the ratings, while Y&R was lower. GL was in better shape but had to fight GH so in that sense was holding up well. NBC was a disaster.
  9. Re Valiant Lady Add Lt Maxwell - Andrew Duggan 1953

  13. re Brighter Day Barbara Joyce's role of Anne Meadows was in fact her ATWT role, she played another role on TBD. Variety reported in Aug 58 she was appearing on TBD while continuing as Anne on ATWT
  14. Re William Redfield Add Romance of helen Trent 1959 - 'beatnik'
  15. Pilots/Proposals Add Lori March Female lead - The Sheriff's Wife CBS 1958 Mart Hulswit The Best Years NBC nightime serial pilot 1965
  16. May 19 1959 CBS broadcast a special 'Woman - Teen Marriages' hosted by Claudette Colbert from 3-4pm, pre-empting The Big Pay Off and The Verdict Is Yours CBS - Woman - 8.9/50 NBC - Young Dr Malone @3 - 4.9/29 From These Roots @3.30 - 4.7/27 ABC - Beat The Clock @3 3.0/17 Who Do You Trust @ 3.30 3.1/16
  17. Hope Springs ABC 1958 Created by Frank & Doris Hursley. Produced by Edwin Duerr. Hope Springs, a town in the west in the late 1860's - ' a new daytime serial story of the frontier west, from the viewpoint of the womwn who helped build it.' Sheriff Gar Ferguson whose past is the subject of conjecture. Other characters - newspaper editor, his crippled wife, a doctor, a neurotic girl and lovesick boy. Westerns were all the rage in primetime at this time and CBS had The Sheriff's Wife under development at the same time.
  18. Variety reported in May 59 that with NBC possibly cancelling YDM and/or From These Roots P&G might move either of them over to CBS into the 2.00 timeslot following ATWT. Imagine things would have been very different for those shows in that timeslot.
  19. according to Jason 47 re Julie Charla Doherty (Julie Olson) 11/8/65-12/23/66 Kathy Dunn (Julie Olson) 1/24/67-6/20/67 recurring Cathy Ferrar (Julie Olson) 7/13/67-9/2/68 recurring Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie Olson Williams) (recurring 12/11/68-4/10/69); 4/15/69-3/19/84 (signed again)
  20. I wonder why Days kept recasting Julie? Obviously they weren't happy with the actresses but 4 actresses in 3 years for such a pivotal character. Meanwhile Denise was cast as Susan and that was that.
  21. ATWT Dr. Keith Lambert Andrew Jarkowsky 5/78 liked Annie S. Afternoon TV Stars Jan 76 has him as Kim's doctor after she had amnesia. So he would have been around in 75. Edit reading old synopses I see Dr Ken Lambert as the doctor interested in Annie. So this character was played by another actor.
  22. Rona Barrets Daytimers Jan 79 Amy Gibson (LOL) and her sister Jody (ATWT) model disco fashions. Anyone know who Jody played? Obviously a minor role. Jody chose another career path. Jody Gibson is an American former madam who was active in Hollywood in the late 1980s through 1990s. Going by the pseudonym "Sasha of the Valley", Gibson operated an "escort agency" in Hollywood, during which time she employed several hundred women across 16 States of the United States of America, and also in Europe
  23. I remember reading this article first time around... Who is being called out ? Doug Davidson? Melody? Tammy Taylor? Agree about the dialogue - at the time it added a campy layer. You can tell they were floundering with the move to the hour. Moving Derek into business, giving Leslie amnesia etc Y&R always had tightly focused stories up till then.
  24. I agree. I hated that Texas logo emerging from the flag.It did look cheap. Not etirely sure when the change took place.Maybe Sept 81.
  25. Re The Doctors Jackie ...Louise Lasser surname Ricardo
