  1. It would have been great to keep Melissa around, just as a recurring player to be a friend to Hope and daughter/grandaughter and maybe have some mini stories along the way, to keep the sense of family and history alive. I'm sure Lisa would have been happy to work once in a while. In my ideal soap world, the Hortos would be more prominent but there would also be references and appearances from family members not front burner.I'm sure many actors would be happy to keep appearing. That would set up the next generations. If we had have seen Melissa and others throughout the years, then any children she had would have been known to the audience and accepted, rather than pop up children we'd never heard about.
  2. Let's face it, Alice probably gave up after the traumas her kids went through. Her parenting approach was obviously not working. Brother impregnating brother's wife, shootings, breakdowns, amnesia, illegitimate children etc She decided with the grandkids, she'd just ride the wave and provide the donuts!
  3. thanks so much for finding/posting this. The original Horton house is seems quite different in detail than later years. I'd have to do have a closer look but that is my first impressiom This is pre Bill Bell but it's interesting he didn't make huge changes, just polished things up for the better. Alice comes across as quite harsh to me, underneath that caring exterior. Basically saying 'get it together Marie'-no daughter of mine will be weak. I guess that was more the mood of the times, whereas now a daughter of that age would have anxiety and depression after being triggered by a micro aggression. Also to see how they cleverly staged the car accident and restaurant scene . In the latter, a couple of extras , some tables and the hint of fancy decor. In comparison on Y&R today they just plonk 2 people in an empty restaurant set and it looks awful.

  5. I've never seen that episode before. So Vanessa was involved with Matt Slocum, but Paul Raven was hovering. Van knew that Jill was claiming she was still Alex's wife, even though he had married her good friend Ellie. These synopses tie in with what we see in that episode, so it was from around that time Mon July 20 Alex Crown's reaction to Jill's presence indicates she may not be lying. Tues July 21 Vanessa promises to supply Jill with action. Wed July 22 Alex hopes desperately that he can stall a little longer Thurs July 23 Alex Crown neither confirms or denies the story. Fri July 24 Alex has a story to tell. Earlier in this thread, there were some story plans posted that indicated Meg was to return in the late 60's, but that never happened.
  6. Because there were no suitable roles, right? She was probably approached to do one of those 'hagsploitation' roles that were around then. I can't remember who it was but one of the Golden Age Gals said she didn't want to play a 'lesbian axe murderess'.
  7. After working at Warner Bros with little fanfare throughout the 30's and 40's, Jane's career finally gained traction in the late 40's with Johnny Belinda, although Warner Bros continued to cast her in fluffy comedies. But then she got 'The Blue Veil', 'Magnificent Obsession' and 'All That Heaven Allows'. all big hits. She quickly moved into TV as a top star , rather than it being seen as a step down and maintained her popularity. But through the 60's she only worked sporadically- by choice? There wasn't much around for the more mature ladies in that era. She did a pilot 'Amanda Fallon' that was shown on 'Medical Center' i 1972 but it wasn't picked up and again in the 70's she was barely seen. But it was standout performance in a hit 1979 TV movie 'Incredible Journey of Dr Meg Laurel' with Lindsay Wagner that got her back in the spotlight and she got Falcon Crest shortly after.
  8. Requests Lizbeth McKay Herb Foster Robert Gibson Emory Bass John Moore (radio, maybe TV?) Maybelle Prindaville
  9. Polly Adams Search for Tomorrow Somerset Frances Chaney As The World Turns pre 1977
  10. Why would a dynamic sassy woman like Kate want to nestle in the arms of a withered fossil like Chroman?
  11. i think Jane was going with a similar style to her 50's look when she was a big movie and TV star. As for Angela being dowdy I have to disagree.I think she always looked quite elegant and age appropriate for a woman in her late 60's at that time.
  12. Nowadays 21 yr olds are referred to as Daddies!
  13. So everyone but the Top 5 are averaging 2 eps a week...
  14. in the episode posted above, the Love sitting room is in beige tones, but wasn't originally a greeny/blue? Was any explanation given for the change or did it just happen? Later it changed again and there was a staircase. Again, any explanation? The same for the Cory estate when the whole look changed. Was it referenced?
  15. Liberace...what is there to say? I believe the woman standing next to Felicia is Linda Dano's mother.
  16. Isn't it funny how taste is so personal. I thought the decor was pretty dated and tacky. Oh well, to each his/her own!
  17. That Nancy Malone story was from the 60's. I think after Nancy Malone had played Robin.
  18. Jill must have been at Greg's wedding to Nikki and surely has some interaction. Bill must have kept it at a minimum.
  19. Y&R One of Kay's chiffony hostess gowns she always wore at home Dereks Thurston's tighty whitie 'Golden Comb' outfit which he wore most of the time Esther's maid outfit Vanessa's veil
  20. And wasn't Rachel behind the wheel of a crappy 70's Oldsmobile? How did she end up driving that clunker for the car chase?
  21. ATWT Nancy Hughes' coffee pot Grandpa Hughes pipe GH
  22. And there's Victoria and Phyllis both in one shouldered dresses. Nikki in a sparkly top. When will it end?
  23. Not stupid at all. I think one reason that Bill didn't go there was there was simply not enough time in a tightly focused 30 min show to pursue all those plot possibilities. He was also wise enough to keep things simple as too much crossover meant stuff got complicated and unwieldy to write. Look at today's show where relationships are ignored because there is so much crossover. Weren't Abby and Lily besties at one point? You'd never know from watching now.
